- quato, on 12/12/2008, -0/+20I saw the recent tour and was blown away. Granted this was the 5th time I've seen Nine inch Nails, including with David Bowe, and It was by far the best show to date. The light show was absolutely amazing. Everything I've seen post break up with the executives has been great/free. If the next release had a charge or followed a model like Radioheads In rainbows, I would gladly pay.
- Stormwern, on 12/12/2008, -0/+17"A couple of years ago around this time of year, somebody must have broken into my personal files and uploaded onto a torrent site the entire DVD of Closure.
Oh darn.
Yeah, I don’t know who could have done that.
Hmm.
So, that basically means that it doesn’t need to come out on DVD anymore."
Awesome, fight the power! - inactive, on 12/12/2008, -1/+18"They don’t care if it’s timeless art that’s being put out, as long as they sell that disc—even if it means you wearing your pants backward or whatever it might be."
I guess Trent isn't a fan of hip-hop. Me neither. - ATLiens, on 12/12/2008, -0/+16trent produced saul william's new album, so i'm assuming he likes hip-hop.
and you also act like there's only trends in rap music. there's similar stuff in rock music. he's not necessarily referring to hip-hop music, just to artists attempting to capitalize on the trends of the day. - Farik, on 12/12/2008, -0/+14The Downward Spiral, The Fragile.
- GeeksSpeakFont, on 12/11/2008, -2/+15I love Trent Reznor... "Closer" and "Hurt" are two of the best songs of all time!
- orangederange, on 12/12/2008, -1/+14The Downward Spiral I think is a great start
- joehodgson, on 12/12/2008, -0/+11I took that to mean he didn't much care for Kriss Kross
- algaeturd, on 12/12/2008, -0/+9Good to see that Trent is changing with the times. The same can't be said for a lot of bands who started out when he did. Even if you don't love his music, you have to respect the approach and the attitude. Fortunately, I think both are spot on and I think he's proved a lot of people wrong in the past 10 years...and that has to feel good as an artist doing it on your own.
- Gatesophile, on 12/12/2008, -1/+10lol at trentcanibiteyourthigh.com
Some people are crazy.
(yeah... that's my site. Sorry. :P) - Michaelabehsera, on 12/11/2008, -0/+9Great band (from what I heard till now) I need to get into them more, what CD of thiers should I start with?
- scoobydiesel, on 12/12/2008, -0/+8Cant wait to see NIN live in arco arena tonite! Hope that this time will be better and he wont be disappointed...
- TheKappa, on 12/12/2008, -1/+9Pretty Hate Machine is his best album
The Downward Spiral and Year Zero are awesome too. - mickhead, on 12/12/2008, -2/+10I think I'm the only one who actually loved With Teeth, so I say get that. But you should start with the others, downward spiral and the fragile as others have said.
- irondragons, on 12/12/2008, -0/+7Uh?
Ha. Actually, I liked that kind of layout. It made the interviewer feel more like a human than some robotic-interviewer-guy. - BabyWookie, on 12/12/2008, -0/+7Heh. You couldn't be any more wrong. Trent has been professing his love for underground hip-hop for a long time, even admiring and working with more mainstream artists such as Dre and Ice Cube.
- shadowspawn, on 12/12/2008, -0/+7Uh, I got a question. FTA:" what we’ve done is take advantage of that freedom of not having an Alcatraz around our neck"
Wouldn't it be an albatross? Just wondering, never heard of an Alcatraz around one's neck. Unless it's a missprint. Or Trent is thinking about jail from the sentences before that statement, about stealing. - Vindexus, on 12/12/2008, -0/+6BUT WHO DID IT?!
- slaverynin, on 12/12/2008, -0/+6what a great artist, more people should really take a page from the Trent book on life.
Amazing artist... man... legend. - fangs4evrything, on 12/12/2008, -0/+6Damn, that's a rough question. Depends on what you've heard that really gets you.
The early albums, Broken and Pretty Hate Machine, are probably some of the hardest rock, in a sort of "classic" sense. True head-banging/moshing material. PHM is definitely one of the most popular.
The darker stuff, Downward Spiral and The Fragile, are really good, mixing the earlier hard ***** with some softer stuff. Generally, I'd call these the more depressing albums, but there are some choice songs within them.
The newest albums, With Teeth, Year Zero, and The Slip, are serious standard-setters. They make statements not in just a political sense (in some songs), but also as a statement towards current music calling itself rock. It's full of experimentation that works really well, and you can tell Trent's not afraid to try new things.
Ghosts is good for ambience too...and on drugs. :D - joseke7, on 12/12/2008, -1/+6Trent ftw!!!
- mindsnare, on 12/12/2008, -0/+5Can't wait to see these Guys at Soundwave in Feb.. still waiting for a sideshow announcement.
- Gatesophile, on 12/12/2008, -2/+7Aside from me fangirling over how Trent now knows about my site I made about his thighs, I really liked the layout of the interview, and how it sounded more like a conversation than an actual interview. I loved the bit about Closure at the end, too. (seed0 on The Pirate Bay ;))
- TriSight, on 12/12/2008, -0/+5Pretty Hate Machine is a great start :)
- Gatesophile, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4Just nod and back away slowly. Trust me, it's for your own good.
- grifta67, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4False. I think he was just referring to the labels pinning a stupid gimmick onto an artist and selling that instead of actual talent.
Go check out Saul Williams' "The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!" which as most on Digg should know, was produced by Trent. It's a thousand times more hiphop than that Soulja Boy *****. - fangs4evrything, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4Yes, Trent Reznor is NIN.
But you'd be surprised how much input the other band mates have offered, specifically this round. Alessandro Cortini and Josh Freese have been pretty involved from what I have gathered. Can't really speak for any former lists. Oh, and Renholder, of course (Danny Lohner). - jinjin, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4Used to be a huge NIN fan, but I always thought Trent Reznor was a jackass. Kinda like a guy who took himself too seriously, that said, I gotta say I really enjoyed that interview.
- spookyluke, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4Let's hope Lights in the Sky somehow gets professionally recorded and then mysteriously ends up "stolen" and uploaded onto a torrent site as well. We can hope, can't we?
- aenima987, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4ALL OF THEM
- Gatesophile, on 12/12/2008, -0/+3He probably meant albatross. I'm not sure if it was him that got mixed up, if he misspoke, if she misheard him, or if she misprinted. The words sound similar so she might have misheard him.
- zombiedepot, on 12/12/2008, -0/+3Terrorists.
- Stormwern, on 12/12/2008, -0/+3Crab people
- Chimay, on 12/12/2008, -0/+3Great interview.
If you can make one of the remaining shows on this tour, do not miss out on what is an amazing audio/visual assualt like nothing you have ever seen.
Can't wait for ARCO tonight! - soundsofreason, on 12/12/2008, -0/+3Trent probably has the weirdest voice in pop music?!?
You just lost any credibility right there.
I recommend an uninterrupted listen of the Fragile to silence any naysayers. If you can't make it through, you have an attention span of a 5 year old. - silenceissexy, on 12/12/2008, -0/+2Terrorist Crabs.
- HorseloverFat8, on 12/12/2008, -0/+2Trent said Radiohead and the most relevant band around today. He didn't mouth off their music.
- smartassCanuck, on 12/12/2008, -0/+2I think With Teeth is a great album to get someone into NIN, it's probably the easiest to get into quickly. That said Downward Spiral or The Fragile are better IMO..
- nevinl, on 12/12/2008, -0/+2Broken, Fixed, and their song from The Crow, too...
- BillyWarhol, on 12/17/2008, -0/+2saw NIN open for Bowie - awesome show* + Trent + Bowie sang I'm afraid of Americans* ;)) unreal*
- warplayer, on 12/13/2008, -0/+2That's the best breakdown of NIN I've read.
- Samohtneas, on 12/12/2008, -0/+2WHO WAS PHONE?
- tyrone888, on 12/13/2008, -0/+2One of the first shows that I've ever went to was a NIN concert in '94 in a small warehouse. When they performed Wish, the whole place went crazy! Probably the most fun time I've had at a concert, except for when Fishbone performed Party at Ground Zero at their concert. Been a fan of Trent ever since then. He can definitely put on a show!
- techlinks, on 12/18/2008, -0/+2Actually he points out how record companies used to help out artists. But now all they care about is making tonnes of cash quick...
- angusNUBangus, on 12/13/2008, -0/+1I have yet to hear the sound track he did for Quake 1...I heard its good.
- BabyWookie, on 12/12/2008, -3/+4Radiohead sucks.

As tempting as it is, I'm not going to list a bunch of good hip-hop and rap artists on here, but there is some really good music coming out in all genres; you just won't hear it on a lot of radio stations.
What the disintegration of record labels really means is that people who care for the music they're making are still putting it out on their own. (As someone who likes to think they're creative themselves,) I don't think artists should starve, but the machine and mass-production of the music industry is what killed itself.
Well, that and the Internet. -
