Rolling Stones to quit touring after 45 years
news.com.au — THE Rolling Stones will reportedly quit touring for good after playing London's O2 Arena this Sunday after 45 years in the music business. The veteran rockers are believed to have declared that their current A Bigger Bang Tour will be their last because frontman Sir Mick Jagger, 64, and guitarist Keith Richards, 63, will be too old ...

- flacnvinyl, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Thankfully this last tour was one of the best they've ever done. Martin Scorsese directed a movie on the Stones which will be released in the Spring. Its coming to theaters and IMAXs. I was at the two gigs in the Beacon Theater and those were the last two Stones shows I saw this tour, and also happened to be the best gigs I've ever seen them play. I saw them first in 1997 St. Louis at the PPV show. Ever since I've been blown away by their live gigs. People can say what they want about the Stones but they set the pace for touring bands. They started Arena rock back in 1969....
- strangerzero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If they can't rock me, somebody else will.

- flacnvinyl, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Hampton was an amazing gig. Anytime my friends rag on me about liking the Stones I just show them the 81 Hampton gig and suddenly they get it.

Gash? So where abouts are you from?- scex, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I've heard it used in Australia a few times, but I'm not sure it originated here.It always gives me a good laugh.

- strangerzero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What a sloppy article:
"The group have sold more than 200 million albums worldwide over the last five decades and played thousands of sold-out shows. "
"They have sold over 300 million albums worldwide."
- strangerzero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What a sloppy article:
- jcm267, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Too bad. It'd be cool if they did an official farewell tour.
- flacnvinyl, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0This will be the last world tour for the Stones. I'm willing to put down money that they'll play more gigs in the future, just smaller club gigs and not major world tours.
- tunapez, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2They did, it was called the Steel Wheels Tour back in '89. At least that's how they rationalized the $50 lawn tickets back when every other gig was $17, and we slept out for a day and a half to get tickets to the LAST STONES TOUR, EVER!!! Attended the September 11th show @ Alpine Valley, WI.
Never gave them another cent since.
As long as people keep paying for crap, it will keep flowing. - RobotKing, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The farewell tour will last another 45 years.
- kiesow567, on 10/10/2007, -0/+46now they will gather moss
- Skootles, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I remember my first job, the first event was a few summers ago when the stones came here. I had to walk around the floor with a backpack full of about 24 bottles of pepsi and water. I just stopped selling to listen to the music though. I was about 20 feet away when they were giving out their guitars! It was sweet.
- theseaweedking, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Finally.
- bemenaker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I like the Stones and all, but this should have happened 15 years ago. Now if we can get Aerosmith to stop ruining their legacy....
- holygram, on 10/10/2007, -1/+44"guitarist Keith Richards, 63, will be too old"
You misplaced your decimal...he's actually 630.- kahlessreborn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Just remember when the world ends(from nuclear holocaust I assume) all there will be left are roaches and Keith Richards.
- RainDrizzleFog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3And Cher.
- djpants428, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Keith Richards can not be killed by conventional weaponry...
- BossKey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Oh, I see, he's 630 in drug years.
- Ghengis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1No, it's Capt. Jack Sparrow, not Keith Richards
- kahlessreborn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Just remember when the world ends(from nuclear holocaust I assume) all there will be left are roaches and Keith Richards.
- Tobark, on 10/10/2007, -6/+6They were supposed to quit after Steel Wheels , which is why I went to see them. Im done believing and definitely done caring. Their music is so played out at this point.
- nystonesfan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1you are insane.....played out???? Classic , yes..played out never........
- GafferXL, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16Keith lives about 30 seconds from my house, so I guess seeing him blazed out of his mind on his motorcycle will be a more frequent occurence around here.

- carpespasm, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4sucks that they have to give it up, but it's been pretty over for a while now. the show at the superbowl a couple years ago was just sad for the whole family.
- TexanRudeBoy, on 10/10/2007, -13/+5There truly is a God! If only there was a way to "retire" their music from this world also.
- Twasi, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10I won't miss them. I saw them live not too long ago and they honestly sound terrible live now and days. They used to sound amazing and their shows were full of energy but their just too old now. The show was less than stellar and regarding the sound, you could tell they were all at an all time low.
Great band, but you have to know when to quit. (AC/DC is a great example of this, they still play a show here and there but by and large they're done and went out with a bang). - unclesaamm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29"The group have sold more than 200 million albums worldwide over the last five decades..."
Later in the article:
"They have sold over 300 million albums worldwide."
Good job.- Pitfan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Maybe they sold that extra 100 million albums before the previous 5 decades. They are pretty old you know.
- deskattire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Or maybe they sold 100 million albums during the time the author was writing the middle part of the article.

- Accutron, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Now that's a band that should have called it quit years ago. Packing it in right after Moon died would have spared them years of embarrassment.
- RainDrizzleFog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Wow, I didn't think I would live long enough to see it.

- 666dorado, on 10/10/2007, -9/+2about ***** time. tired of seeing those old farts making a killing by rehashing the same boring white-man's blues for the last 30 years.

- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10regarding keith richards, which of the following is least likely: a) snorted his father's cremated remains. b) fell out of a tree smacking his head against the ground. c) will be performing his last show this sunday.

- sljepi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5No way.
- kylesellers, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Did anyone else read this as "Rolling Stones to Quit Touring in 45 Years"?
- renegadeafk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5That title would probably be more true.
- sparkleyflowers, on 10/10/2007, -6/+4Finally. Am I the only one that thinks Mick is a creepy old man that sounds like crap? Granted, he was one of the greats back in the day. That ship has sailed.
- nystonesfan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Creepy? You are an idiot.............he still is one of the greats
- RacerX2727, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Glad I saw them 2 years ago if this is indeed the end for them. Even more glad that my $60 seats ended up being obstructed view, so the venue moved me to seats where the tickets cost $395 at no additional cost to me!
- RacerX2727, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3Glad I saw them 2 years ago if this is indeed the end. Even more glad that when I did see them, my $60 seats ended up being obstructed view, so the venue moved me to seats where tickets cost $395, at no additional cost to me!
- buyingastairway, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2Didn't the Rolling Stones die about 25 years ago?
- flacnvinyl, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3I've seen them 11 times in my life (I'm 24 years old mind you) and they are far and away the greatest rocknroll band of all time. Scorsese will be releasing "Shine A Light" this Fall which was almost entirely filmed at two gigs at the Beacon Theater in NYC. I was at those shows. Best concerts I've ever seen in my life. Thats coming to theaters and the IMAX. Should be the last bang for the Stones.
- nystonesfan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Thank you.........I didn't think I would find anyone here that appreciates how amazing the Stones are live.....still..........

Overhyped bunch of washed up has beens. Hell, keith richards could be
the poster child of why you shouldn't do drugs!- mabhatter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7he's been doing harder drugs than most for 45 years... and has millions of dollars.. hardly a bad example.
- Gerz1219, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6He's also had sex with more women than every Digger on this board combined. Feel superior to him all you want, when you're 63 nobody will be paying hundreds of dollars to watch you do anything, and you certainly won't be able to bang girls in their 20's. Keith Richards has led the life every man wants to live, which explains the constant anonymous mockery he gets from geeks. I'm certain he cries every night about all the jokes, atop his big mattress covered in money, models, and coke.
- nystonesfan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0has beens???they are and will always be The worlds greatest rock and roll band....you are insane

- RobotKing, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1They are taking a break to undergo a treatment. The treatment will make them into chuckie cheese's like robots so they can tour forever.
- maz2331, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"Well, Keith actually died in 1973... but the doctors said all the drugs just prevented his heart from actually stopping..."

- heystoopid, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Just goes to show just how incredibly bad new music from the big four major labels , if these grandpa's still pack houses forty years on !
- Stephiems, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5What is up with everyone being so ageist? Maybe if there were any decent young rock bands then we wouldn't have to hang on to bands from the 70s and 80s. There are not ANY decent stadium rock bands out...absolutely not a single one. Bands like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and The Stones STILL rock harder then any of the bands today. Today's industry is too focused on age, its like they think you suddenly become useless after the age of 30. Now, obviously the Stones are getting up there, but come on, there are some amazing musicians out there who are in their 40s and 50s, but they are considered useless, what a load of crap. And by the way, I'm 27, and my favorite bands all come from the 70s and 80s. I like some forms of newer music, but when it comes to rock, there is zero today.
- deskattire, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0You're not looking hard enough
- marf1025, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Hey, they should support the mprize (www.mprize.org) and support the research into reversing the aging process, in fact, all the older rich baby boomers could do with donating something as IT applied to biotech/nanotech will give us solutions to reverse aging in 10 or so years...
