Epic fail. - posture, on 12/18/2007, -1/+69What a joke.
- d1rtfarm, on 12/18/2007, -1/+56As Henry Rollins once said, "I stopped reading Rolling Stone when they called Justin Timberlake 'edgy'"
- MikeonTV, on 12/18/2007, -3/+53I contest.
- drunkentoad, on 12/18/2007, -10/+57Jay Z is over rated
- Grommy, on 12/18/2007, -2/+44I don't like the Rolling Stone. They seem to try too hard to get both the younger and older demographics to read it, and they fail tremendously in my case (I'm one of the coveted 18-34 males).
It seems like a lot of the songs that were up there that I liked (Okkervil River, Panda Bear, Liars, Blitzen Trapper, Arcade) were only up there because the songs all resembled some other, more famous artist's music.
Also, they really caught onto the whole Bright Eyes thing on one of his worst albums yet. - Sinudeity, on 12/18/2007, -13/+55What a CRAP list. Majority of rappers and R&B talentless IDIOTS.
- PsychTouch, on 12/18/2007, -1/+42So sad...
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -1/+40What a sad day in music history...
- CatalystDM, on 12/18/2007, -5/+36Rolling Stone is such garbage these days.
I can't really say this list is perfect either, but it's a lot better:

- Nikon87, on 12/18/2007, -10/+37Wow... what a ***** list... That list has made me loose any shred of respect I had for the Rolling Stones.
- littlemarcho, on 12/18/2007, -11/+30Thos ***** morons dont know ***** about music!
Jay-Z = the world biggest wanker - GoEKniGhtofNi, on 12/18/2007, -1/+18looks like a crapy radio playlist to me.
- MrTito, on 12/18/2007, -5/+21Randy Newman is #2, but Tay Zonday gets no love?
- limeaid, on 12/18/2007, -1/+17Let's see
Avril Lavigne ......Nickleback. .... Kylie Minogue.....
No Black Keys (at least i didn't see it)
buried - FYI - Rolling Stone lost it's credibility over 20 years ago - smookyfufu, on 12/18/2007, -0/+16American Dreaming was better than Roc Boys.
This list is terrible but not for the reasons diggers will complain about (LOL RAP), but because every song on here is terrible.
Any list that has Nickelback on it deserves to be buried. - dehnomac, on 12/18/2007, -0/+16I canceled my subscription in 1983 (yeah, I'm old). Bob Dylan was scheduled for a concert at the Houston Astrodome, but canceled at the last minute, because Hurricane Alicia was bearing down on the Texas coast. So, I get my next Rolling Stone and there it is...the review of the Bob Dylan concert. It seems Rolling Stone wrote a review of a Dylan concert that never happened. Needless to say I didn't trust anything they had to say after that.
- tarquell, on 12/18/2007, -0/+16I MISS OiNK!
- JustinPM, on 12/18/2007, -1/+16Every genre can have classics, but can you honestly say that "Dough is what I got" is going to go down in history like Don Maclean's Apple Pie. I just don't see it happening, most of these songs have atrocius lyrics (Um brella ella ella ella ay ay ay ay ay) and are produced for the club environment. For zombie jesus's sake, Soulja Boy is on here!
- mdavis, on 12/18/2007, -7/+21Look-any list that has this much rap and R&B on it can't be taken seriously. That crap has no shelf life and never stands the test of time. I'm sure if we dug up the Rolling Stone Best of List from 1992, We'd see Please Hammer Don't Hurt Em!
- garbanzo, on 12/18/2007, -1/+15If they were more honest and said plainly that these are the 100 turds that floated to the top of a bucket of *****, then maybe I'd cut them some slack.
- fucayama, on 12/18/2007, -0/+14Trouble is there is plenty of music being produced that's not generic or repetitive it's just that Rolling Stone here seems to have cherry picked 100 songs from the RIAA affiliated labels in there advertisers index.
Poor journalism, thats all. - b0rna, on 12/18/2007, -1/+15i stopped after i got to "i get money"...***** 14th how did that piece of ***** even get on the list...
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -2/+15An anyone even remember 10 news songs from this year that were any good?
Rolling stone is like an old man wearing white basketball boots and trying to be "hip with the youngsters". think "Poochy the dog" except 65 years of age. - NateTheApe21, on 12/18/2007, -1/+14This should be "100 most played songs on the radio for 2007"
- batista86, on 12/18/2007, -1/+13I thought the list was legit until I saw Soulja Boy at 21....then I immediately closed firefox.
- Soave, on 12/18/2007, -0/+11Wow, what a terrible year for music...
- tehpwnerofn00bs, on 12/18/2007, -0/+11Yeah, there's no way in hell brittney spears is #15.
- bjornski, on 12/18/2007, -1/+11Don't worry, as one of the 34+ demographic, I can attest that they try to please people in that demographic even less.
Rolling Stone has sucked for 20+ years. It's RIAA crap. Zero quality, just ads ads ads ads ads. - inactive, on 12/18/2007, -1/+11some stay dry while others feel the pain
- oriyn142, on 12/18/2007, -0/+10Top 100 Pop Sux0rz...
- millerftw, on 12/18/2007, -1/+10They have some ***** taste in music.
- snatchmstr, on 12/18/2007, -3/+12You took the words right out of my mouth.
- RabidFurby, on 12/18/2007, -2/+11#1. "Roc Boys" By Jay-Z
No more Rolling Stones for me. Mega fail. - yuuko, on 12/18/2007, -1/+9Mick Jagger is gonna be sooo pissed when he reads your comment.
- systemghost, on 12/18/2007, -0/+8This really cracks me up.. the video link for the #3 song "Umbrella" by Rihanna was removed from youtube due to a terms of use violation. Not even Rolling Stone Magazine expects the copyright infringement takedown notice!
- CatalystDM, on 12/18/2007, -1/+9That's actually really sad you think all music produced today is repetitive *****.
I think to some extent that's true of major label releases, especially the ones that get Top 40 play. However, that's more or less always been the case. There are always anomalies, though I will say the anomalies seem to be getting less play in top 40 radio as of late. It's mostly because there's now enough crap out there to fill a playlist, so why play the lesser popular bands?
Top 40 Radio is a reflection of what major labels want to force down your throat, and is almost completely out of touch with the major movements in music today. If you want to find good music, it's not hard, you just have to sidestep the corporate machine to do so. A good place to start finding good independent (that's a broad term, in this case, it is more equivalent to "good" than it is to "without a label") music is by listening to your local college/independent radio station. If you don't have one, there are some great ones that stream their broadcast onto the net... KEXP out of Seattle is great (kexp.org), KCRW in LA (kcrw.com), etc.
Alternatively, you can just seek out music on your own. Actively read reviews on music blogs. Read the buzz on music networking sites like Last.fm. Find an artist you like and then seek out artists that people say are similar.
It's not incredibly difficult to find good music... there's a TON of it out there, you just have to seek it out rather than letting RS shove major label propaganda and buzz down your throat. - seanv775, on 12/18/2007, -1/+9It's not the Rolling Stones' fault music today is horrible. When the only music produced is repetitive and generic *****, that's all that you'll see in a top 100 list.
- vault, on 12/18/2007, -17/+25These are all crap except for the Radiohead song.
- protogenxl, on 12/18/2007, -1/+8No Dethklok = Epic Fail
- macosx86, on 12/18/2007, -3/+10Dugg for #4 Justice rocks!
- CatalystDM, on 12/18/2007, -1/+8Ohio's agriculture is based on grain
- zeejay, on 12/18/2007, -0/+7100 Reasons Rolling Stone is Now Irrelevant
- bjornski, on 12/18/2007, -2/+9That's because that's exactly what it is.
- Krpano, on 12/18/2007, -1/+7That Umbrella song is the worst crap i heard in my life.
- Benkelly11, on 12/18/2007, -2/+8blaze,
Rap in no longer an emerging genre, it emerged a decade ago. Any hate directed towards it is because no one empathizes with what mainstream rappers rap about since it has become a caricature of itself. Rock had a social conscience in the 60s and then diversified incredibly thereafter. Hip Hop has not done that and deserves the disrepute it receives until someone reinvents it. It's been mainstream for over a decade and STILL sounds the same! That said I do enjoy indie rappers like Kos and Saul Williams.
And 2007 has been a fantastic year for music but not if you only listen to mainstream radio. - mongoloidplease, on 12/18/2007, -1/+7Rolling Stone has no credibility. Wait until next month for the Triple J hottest 100, it's about the only top 100 list in terms of music that is worth following, since only fairly genuine music fans vote in it.
- leprechaun92200, on 12/18/2007, -2/+8This list would have been better had it been "Rolling Stones' best songs in 2007" and not been a list at all! Seriously! Avril Lavigne - the 25th best song of the year - I think not!
