- tman84, on 10/29/2009, -0/+37Biggest joke of a hall of fame ever. They should call it the pop music hall of fame.
- pathouston22, on 10/29/2009, -2/+33Who are we going to be inducting 25 years from now? ***** Black Eye Peas or the Jonas Brothers?
- pandemik, on 10/29/2009, -5/+31RUSH
That is all... - bobburn1, on 10/29/2009, -1/+20The fact that they refuse to put Rush in and have put the likes of Madonna in the Hall makes me say ***** em, I hope they go bankrupt and a new *actual* rock n' roll hall of fame is created..You know, for rock.
- inactive, on 10/29/2009, -0/+15R& HOF is about as relevant as Rolling Stone magazine today
- Falldog, on 10/29/2009, -0/+13People care about the R&R Hall of Fame?
- RegalBegal, on 10/29/2009, -0/+11The Rock and Roll HoF isn't even a blip on the radar for anyone who truly loves and appreciates music as an art.
- LeadOffMan, on 10/29/2009, -1/+11I'll say it's a pivotal time alright. The well is dry on anything new coming out that's worth a crap. That's why all the Guitar Hero video games use older music
- Falldog, on 10/29/2009, -1/+11And no, I don't mean the Rail Road Hall of Fame, that place is the *****.
- Jaspo, on 10/29/2009, -2/+12Having an article about the Rock Hall of Fame and only referring to Cleveland once is idiotic. I realize Cleveland isn't at the top of anyone's place to go or live, but The RRHoF is in Cleveland and that is the birthday that is being celebrated .... in New York. Yes, that is considered the annex to the rock hall. The article is clearly worded not to celebrate the RRHoF, but to promote the concert in NYC.
Thanks Muchomaas for that link. Here is a little paragraph from that link.
But if you really want someone to feel sorry for, save your sympathy for the residents of Cleveland, who ponied up $65 million in public monies to build the Rock Hall, but before this year have hosted the induction but once in 23 years, back in 1997 when the museum first opened. - GoogleDrummer, on 10/29/2009, -2/+11I can think of plenty of bands that deserve to be in more than most of the people on the list. Namely Rush. But they dont give a *****, cause they see it for what it really is, and Alex has been very public about it in the past. Still, it'd be nice to see actual rock bands get some recognition.
- Latama, on 10/29/2009, -0/+8No Alice Cooper? No Rush? No Iggy & The Stooges?
What a joke. - sonicfrog, on 10/29/2009, -0/+6RUSH.
Yep. Probably the most influential three musicians of a generation. As a long time bass player, 23 + years, I can think of few other musicians who have made such a huge impact on other musicians. Even those who don't like the band, or especially Geddy Lee's VOX in the early years, greatly respect these guys and at some point have been influenced by them, inspired by their mastery of their instrments. How many musicians do you know that have said "Wow, *****, when I first heard Madonna on the radio, I knew I wanted to be a guitarist / bass player / drummer?" Not many, I bet. The art of being a premo slut maybe, not that there's anything wrong with that...... - diggopolous, on 10/29/2009, -0/+5iF you choose not to induct, you still have made a choice!
- Tollofsen, on 10/29/2009, -2/+7Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!? Wheres Lemmy? He's the God of Rock!
- Synn, on 10/29/2009, -0/+4The well isn't really dry...it's just that no one's promoting real artists anymore. The problem with the record industry is that it's made up of two groups...the artists and the businessmen. And unfortunately the businessmen are in control, clueless, and are complete idiots.
- zaduma, on 10/29/2009, -0/+4Guitar Hero games use new songs as well, but I don't care if you get dugg down and me as well. New music today sucks.
Just go listen to anything produced in 1960's - 2001ish. It is much better than anything now. - musickf, on 10/29/2009, -0/+4I quit caring or reading Rolling Stone when the copy came out with Joey Ramones' death. Who was on the cover? Destiny's Child.
- FeloniusMonkey, on 10/29/2009, -0/+4I kinda feel the same way. If Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Doors, Rolling Stones, etc, represent the first messiah of Rock and Roll, then all these newer bands are the Golden Calves, worshipped by today's youth, who "just weren't there when it was cool, mannnn." Does new music really suck that bad, or are we just being stubborn old farts? I sure as hell don't enjoy any of it... though I'd gladly welcome a 2nd coming!
- tj111, on 10/29/2009, -2/+6Muse, NIN, Tool, Radiohead are some good, popular "modern" bands that I see getting inducted. There's sooooo much talent out there in music world, it's actually a great time for music. The problem being almost none of that great music is mainstream. Whether that's good or bad is debatable though (good because you want the bands to do well and people to stop listening to ***** music, bad because look what happened with Incubus and OAR's music when they got "mainstreamed" by their labels).
- Samurai77, on 10/29/2009, -1/+4Right ON!
- inactive, on 10/29/2009, -1/+3Never gonna give you up
- momomathew, on 10/29/2009, -0/+2What do you think would happen today if Pink Floyd walked into a record executive's office and tried to explain they wanted to make "The Wall"
- BrandonJM, on 10/29/2009, -1/+3And that's how Rock Band saved the Hall Of Fame.
- jeffwmartin, on 10/29/2009, -0/+2Only 5 more years for NiN to be eligible and 8 years for Tool.
- anarcurt, on 10/29/2009, -0/+2There is no doubt that arena shows are dying, and rightfully so. Paying fifty bucks to sit a quarter mile from the stage is stupid. Catching a good show at a 3,000 capacity venue with a real bar where you have a level of intimacy is much better and this will be what is left. As music distribution becomes cheaper and more wide spread due to technology you will see more niche acts and less pop (or at least one can hope). Festivals should continue to grow in popularity as well, as long as they stop fleecing people with $10 beers and $7 hot dogs.
- Wonderama, on 10/29/2009, -0/+2I'm an old fart but there is some fantastic music out there right now, it's just that none of it is on the radio. Now it takes a lot more time to find it than it used to, but that's what the interwebby's are for.
- LastVisibleDog, on 10/29/2009, -2/+3No Yes, No Moody Blues, No Alice Cooper
I thought hall of fames are for people that have done special things in their field.
Yes, Moody Blues, Alice Cooper all INVENTED their musical niches.
BTW: I don't think new musical niches have been created in Rock and Roll since the early 1990's
No music lasts forever - Rock and Roll is a dying beast, just like Big Band Music or the Crooners of 20's
Rock and Roll was exciting when it was new and inventive - Rock and Roll is very boring when it turns into a sausage factory.
I am a musician - I recently did a stint with a cover band specializing in Hendrix, Cream, Deep Purple, etc - we were a power trio based on the 60's-70's power trio model - we could blow most other area bands off the stage....BUT WHO CARES! I got so sick of playing 30-40 year old songs like some old geezer pining for the glory days. That old material is GREAT - but it is bloody old material. Rock is cool and hot when it is forging new paths - it is boring as hell when it turns into the well-worn path.
Fear not - the death of Rock will bring forth the phoenix-like birth of something else....and I am in process of trying to create the something else....
- Maxwell1234, on 10/29/2009, -0/+1Check out The Black Keys for new but vintage sounding blues rock.
- Rob45, on 10/29/2009, -1/+2Ditto all the Rush comments. Went to RRHF on opening day with high hopes but now see it is a joke like everybody else. Screw Jann Wenner and all of the other so called rock experts associated with this place.
As a Clevelander, I say to NYC why don't you take this turd away from us completely like you do everything that we have which is good? We won't miss it like we do Sabathia and, pretty soon, LeBron. We also don't suggest our visiting friends go to this place anymore. - Muchomaas, on 10/29/2009, -1/+2This story really didn't have much "there" there. If you want a real story about the rock hall's failings, try this...
http://digg.com/music/Rock_Hall_of_Lame_Where_Are_ ... - vinetari, on 10/29/2009, -0/+1does that mean it can induct itself now?
- CarpeFishem, on 10/29/2009, -0/+1Well, you've still got acts like The Flaming Lips that are on major labels like Warner Bros. that are doing really experimental, kickass stuff. Their latest double album, Embryonic, is completely anti-commercial, yet Warner Bros. has still promoted the hell out of them. Funny you should mention Pink Floyd; the Lips are actually going to do a cover album of Dark Side of the Moon.
- jeffwmartin, on 10/29/2009, -0/+1+1 digg for your support for Rush. -1 for your horrific spelling and grammar. So, it's a wash.
- CarpeFishem, on 10/29/2009, -1/+2No ELO. GTFO.
- jeffwmartin, on 10/29/2009, -1/+2It should be the Music that Rolling Stone Likes Hall of Fame
- Toddguit, on 11/12/2009, -0/+0Springsteen is a great songwriter but he can't play guitar or sing......His female guitarist is hot though.....He should have her dress in something more revealing and he should quit jumping around like a jack-ass on stage..lol
- sonicfrog, on 10/29/2009, -0/+0OUCH!!! Now that was low.
- AmazingSteve, on 10/29/2009, -2/+2I will chose free Willy.
- KidShowtime, on 10/29/2009, -4/+3I met Metallica back on October 12 in Winnipeg, MB. I got a chance to ask Lars how he feels about the Hall of Fame induction.
Hearing right from the mouth of somethone in the Hall of Fame.. it's inspiring to see the sincerity in his voice when he expresses how much it means for their band to be recognized by people who wouldn't normally consider Metallica a Rock n Roll band.
The Hall is more than just Rock n Roll.. it really is about music as a whole.
It should just be, the Music Hall of Fame , really. - boozedrinker, on 10/29/2009, -4/+1I never really understood the appeal of Rush. Their singer's voice is ***** annoying.
- debaser7673, on 10/29/2009, -4/+1im with everyone the rock hall is a ***** joke, i live i akron n no one goes there cus it just a piece o ***** that should float down the lake & were the ***** is RUSH?
- rydawg09, on 10/29/2009, -12/+4Did anyone else read it as "Rick Roll Hall of Fame"?
- bobburn1, on 10/29/2009, -13/+4Cleveland is ***** that never should have gotten the rock n' roll hall of fame. It has nothing to do with rock, has never been, and never will be rock n' roll. Cleveland sucks, the Hall should move to just about anywhere but Cleveland and then perhaps it can start being about rock again, instead of *****.
