- MookiBlaylock, on 07/14/2009, -1/+18..and where's the evidence that proves they're not true.
- dafragsta, on 07/15/2009, -0/+8The Led Zeppelin mud shark thing is partially true. It wasn't a mud shark though. Peter Cole, the band lackey who had a tendency to just beat the ***** out of people (as did Peter Grant, the white Suge Knight) was the one who recounted it in Hammer of the Gods. They were staying in a hotel that had balconies you could fish from, but supposedly it was just a fish.
- Xaevier, on 07/15/2009, -1/+9"And here's a rumor to keep the rockers alive (we can't bust the entire bubble, now can we?):
KISS mixed vials of their own blood into ink for their comic books. This is actually true. There is a photo, a video, a signed contract, and a notary public witnessed them doing it."
Note to self: Eating old kiss comics may give me an STD...
- absurdist, on 07/15/2009, -0/+7The mudshark story was Vanilla Fudge, not Led Zepplin.
Ref. The Mothers Of Invention, "Fillmore East - June 1971", "The Mud Shark". - moliver21, on 07/14/2009, -3/+9Captain O'Hagan: I swear to God I'm going to pistol whip the next guy who says "Shenanigans".
Mac: Hey Farva, what's the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy ***** on the wall and the mozzarella sticks?
Farva (from other room): You mean Shenanigans?
Rabbit: OOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Mac: *hands O'Hagan the butt of his pistol* - awtripp, on 07/15/2009, -0/+5"Let's say you were a travelling Rock and Roll band called The Vanilla Fudge... let's say one night you checked into the Edgewater Inn with an 8mm movie camera..."
- electronicdream, on 07/15/2009, -1/+6Cool story, bro.
- JonnyJ, on 07/15/2009, -0/+5I read the autobiography of Led Zeppelin written by their road manager.
although he debunks its use as a dildo, they did in fact tease a naked women on a bed with a sand shark.
They were staying at a hotel in Seattle whose balconies lay over a body of water. These balconies were used for fishing. - pitchblack16, on 07/14/2009, -0/+4good point....I read Zappa's biography where he says he did not eat beefhearts *****, but I can't vouch for any of the other ones.
- Moonkeeper, on 07/15/2009, -0/+4No mention of Phil Collins? The myth is that Phil Collins sang "In the Air Tonight" to someone who he knew let a kid drown. After the song the guy committed suicide.
- vaylor, on 07/15/2009, -0/+4They forgot "Duane Allman was killed by a peach truck." - which is false
- Sachnussen, on 07/15/2009, -0/+3Photos or it didn't not happen.
- finaldarkone, on 07/15/2009, -0/+3The shop keeper and his son were a different story all together... I had to beat them to death with their own shoes.
- shadowspawn, on 07/15/2009, -0/+3It was a snapper. A red snapper for a redhead's snapper, if I can recall right. She was willing to do anything. Been a while, but Hammer of the Gods wasn't the first book to break the story, I think it was in Penthouse too.
And there was backwards masking, like in floyd's the wall (empty places). Satanic? Not so sure. But definitely backwards masking.
Don't trust anything you read on askmen. - inactive, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2thats actually based on truth though. im pretty sure it was eddie van halen that wanted the m&ms but didnt was any brown ones. ive seen the rider on snopes or smoking gun, or whoever has the riders.
- gglynn07, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2I remember in the nineties, the Rod Stewart myth was replaced by Alanis Morissette...But she was supposedly found dead.
- ncapone, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2ELO sometimes added backwards tracks to fool listeners, as they were at the forefront of this legend. I don't know why…ELO is the least satanic band ever.
- Wakkyweed, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2I think the "Mr. Greenjeans from Captain Kangaroo was Frank Zappa’s father" one is essentially just a misremembered version of a true fact. The real fact is that the old children's show host Mr. Peppermint is the actual father of Gibby Haynes of the Butthole Surfers.
- grendl2000, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2What about the girl being electrocuted in the background of "Love Rollercoaster" by the Ohio Players?
And how does the author know Robert Johnson didn't sell his soul to the devil? Was he down at the crossroads with Satan and Ralph Macchio? - so1omon, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2Seriously? Um.... It wasn't "before a show". It was at Buckingham Palace, while waiting to meet the Queen, and be awarded their MBE's. As a fellow American, please do me a favor and stop making us all look like we're completely ignorant. Thank you.
- CressCrowbits, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2List of people who the semen stomach pump story has also been attributed to:
Elton John
Marc Almond
... - snobrder218, on 07/15/2009, -1/+2"The Beatles smoked a spliff in the Buckingham Palace bathroom in 1965."
OH NO! NOT POT! There's no way a 60s era band could have ever smoked some pot before a show. That's just impossible!
That has to be the dumbest rumor ever. At least the others were amusing and somewhat funny, but one about pot? Wow....lame. - inactive, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1ive seen the whos set from woodstock, i dont remember seeing that happen. where in their set was it?
- falconear, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1Woah, wait...backwards masking on The Wall? How do I find this? Jesus, you write a 10 page research paper on an album you think you know everything about it, but...
- inactive, on 07/15/2009, -1/+2nothing ive never seen before. but ill digg it anyway.....
- megerah, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1do some real research outside of a ***** movie, then YOU talk to me.
- CarolJude, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1Townshend hitting Hoffman with his guitar at Woodstock is actually true. Townshend's never denied it, and a number of others have said it happened as well.
- eeebenz, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1Who else wants to see the Mythbusters take on these stories, particularly the Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks ones?
- inactive, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1Motley Crue would mainline Jack Daniels, I heard.
- snobrder218, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1Wow, go watch the first Austin Powers and get back to me.
- wingwangdoodle, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1Well I think the fact that it was in Buckingham Palace is why it's a big deal. Don't you remember what a big deal it was that Michelle Obama hugged the Queen? It may seem like no big deal to you, but that's a huge taboo.
- minnecrapolis, on 07/15/2009, -0/+1Agreed. I mean, some of them are obviously ***** but others are possibly true. So where is the story behind the story?
- OggerTis, on 07/15/2009, -0/+0If you were really at Woodstock in '69, there shouldn't a lot of stuff about it that you would remember. -=grins=-
- snobrder218, on 07/15/2009, -1/+1Jimi Hendrix deceased, drugs.
Janis Joplin deceased, alcohol.
Mama Cass deceased.... ham sandwich. - adg36, on 07/15/2009, -0/+0If Marilyn Manson doesn't have his lower ribs out, my hopes and dreams have just been dashed.
- banderwocky, on 07/15/2009, -2/+1What about shooting cheese balls? (That's cocaine and cheese)
- snobrder218, on 07/15/2009, -2/+1"The Beatles smoked a spliff in the Buckingham Palace bathroom in 1965."
OH NO! NOT POT! There's no way a 60s era band could have ever smoked some pot before a show. That's just impossible!
That has to be the dumbest rumor ever. At least the others were amusing and somewhat funny, but one about pot? Wow....lame. - megerah, on 07/15/2009, -2/+1Jimi Hendrix died of a mix of drugs and alcohol, and drowning in his own vomit.
get your facts straight. - RealmDown, on 07/15/2009, -3/+2A friend of mine in Boston had a band called the Amazing Mudsharks. They had one of the best drummers in Boston too. Never went big time though, pity.
- monodelasno, on 07/15/2009, -5/+370's Stevie Nicks - Hot
90's Nick - Not - kenhatesemos, on 07/15/2009, -4/+1buried as lame.
