- halofourteen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+54Trent has given fans about ten thousand reasons to get excited about music again. This is what the music industry needs.
- imbetterthanu, on 10/23/2007, -1/+46Damn. That's a great set list. Being able to see/hear "The Begining of the End", "Last" and "We're In This Together" live must have been great.
I am really digging the new CD. It's some of his finest work. - BradGroux, on 10/12/2007, -3/+39@unruled, simply because Trent Reznor is one of the few real artists left in this world. The viral marketing and social movement for this album is sheer genius... and if you can't give props to a band that rushes off some of their fans to an underground show for free, which they have raided by SWAT for artistic value then you must be a hip-hop fan.
- inactive, on 10/23/2007, -5/+40This is why NIN > all.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+36Because it's Nine Inch Nails.. what do you mean why?
That would be like being back in the 70's, having digg, and asking why Led Zeppelin makes front page constantly.
Most music out currently is crap, and NIN is still alive making amazing music. - BradGroux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3239 minute video...

Holy hell... he played We're in This Together... I just pissed myself. - hiabex, on 10/23/2007, -1/+26Just when you thought the coolest band on the planet couldn't get any cooler! Anyone with a brain who happens to be keeping a watchful eye on the events that make up the Year Zero experience should recognize that this is NOT just a highly complex marketing campaign, it is rapidly becoming a movement of freedom of expression. It is reminiscent of the peace movement opposing the Vietnam war in the 60's (Thank f**k NIN or their fans aren't hippies!). As the message at the beginning of the clip states "Wake up & give a *****!". How refreshing in this day & age that such a high profile band as NIN, are stirring up a social conscience and reminding people that they individually + collectively have the power to oppose the current administration & it's liberty eroding policies.
- Strangiato, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Genius, Genius, Genius.
The whole YEAR ZERO concept, approach, and delivery is a masterpiece. - ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21NiN has been an integral part of geek culture and current events ever since they did the soundtrack for Quake. Their recent release has only heightened this.
- imbetterthanu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18I think the point of getting them on the front page is to spread the word that there is still worhwhile music and artists out there. People bitch about the RIAA and the current state of music constantly. Here is a band that's been around since 1989 and he has continually done what he's wanted to do. Before he started "leaking" the Year Zero tracks he released the enrire 2-DVD image of "Closure". He was fed up with his lable putting it off so he uploaded it to the Pirate Bay. Prior to that, some of his music was commercially successful, some of it hasn't been. He's well aware that "Year Zero" as a concept album and artform won't be accepted by all and it doesn't bother him.
I'm sure there's a niche market for The Black Eyed Peas, Britney Spears, and whoever. It's not my cup of tea but some people seem to like it. It's the same idea as "popcorn flicks". There's really no merit to them, but hell...give me a good over-the-top disaster movie and I'll be there opening weekend. It's fun to watch. Granted most go into those with a "so bad it's good" mentality and that might not be the case with current pop music. ;)
Plust, I think the fact that Trent Reznor is a hardcore Mac nerd and is really into technology creates a large percentage of people pushing for his stuff to hit the front page as well. - DICKENS, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14This is what makes you people so stupid.
PHM sounds like...PHM
Broken sounds like....Broken
Downward Spiral sounds like....Downward Spiral
The Fragile sounds like....The Fragile
With Teeth sounds like....With Teeth and
Year Zero sounds like....Year Zero
None of them sound the same, that's what makes it so incredible. - maexus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I believe it has something to do with the growth of government control and how it might effect society in the future. I believe they call it a concept album?
- GhostFreeman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Exactly. He's said its the hardest song to perform live.
- jsmucker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Damn I wish I was there and not here.
- Capta1nA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9It was probably as thrilling for the band. They probably haven't played in such a small room in years.
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I really don't understand some NIN fans attitudes towards the Fragile and With Teeth. I've been a fan since Pretty Hate Machine, actually, an uber fan. I have every single Halo, and as far as I know all of the imports, even the repeats. I even have Purest Feeling, and some Exotic BIrds *****, which in the days of downloads isn't saying much, but in the early 90s took a ***** of trading, begging, borrowing, etc to get.
sooo, I'm not unfamiliar with Trent's music. "The Fragile" was a big dissapointment. After the progression of Broken's metal sounds to The Downward Spiral's noise rock, "The Fragile" to me was just self indulgent *****. There are good tracks, but it doesn't sound like NIN to me, it sounds like he had to put out an album and that's what he came up with. "With Teeth" on the other hand, sounds more like Pretty Hate Machine NIN to me, jangly rhythms with distinct instrument tones, and a variety of tempos. I honestly think "Right where it belongs" is one of them man's masterpieces.
But you really could have thrown out most of "The Fragile" and made a really good EP or single CD album out of it. Until "With Teeth", the last "real" NIN song was Burn. TPD was cool, but more of a Trent experiment than a NIN song.
my 35 cents worth. It seems to me, if you got on board for PHM or Broken, you thought the Fragile sucked and liked with teeth, and the people who got turned on to the downward spiral though the Fragile was great and hated with teeth. It just means Trent has changed as an artist over the years, which is much better than being canned pop radio friendly *****. - mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -1/+913 year old emo kids are nowhere near that smart. Judging by your retarded comment, I take it you are 13 and emo?
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Watch the Survivalism video on YouTube, read up about the viral campaign surrounding Year Zero.
- oxdeltaxo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I just about came in my pants.....
- kingyubba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6TRENT FOR PRESIDENT!!!
- x0923, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7nine inch nails is real art not like all this other bull, so called artists
- gossipninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It is kinda cool how they are running with this concept. I always appreciate when bands, especially large bands throw free concerts.
*SPOILER* - if i didnt put this someone would bitch.
The video was cool but i must say, they probably frisked people not for camcorders but for guns, cuz at the end when the raid happens, they have fake gun fire and that couldve honestly freaked someone out. Now id estimate those involved know this type of ARG is going on but with the way things are now, you gotta be prepared to defend yourself. - imbetterthanu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@ambiensleep
Pull out your copy of "Broken" and listen to "Last" and "Gave Up".
It's "Last". - zephyrinne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If I only lived in LA... that's awesome!
- bradmiska, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Ive been following this on Bloody-Disgusting.com like mad, I cant believe how amazing this story has developed. Thanks god the CD is GOOD! Right?
- Niffer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I guess I'm alone, but The Fragile is what turned me onto NIN. I was always aware of them, but I didn't become a fan until I heard that. If you listen to it as a concept album (try to put a narrative to the lyrics), it really is a ***** epic.
Seeing this video made my day. Trent is a genius!
@DICKENS
Thank you! Artists are allowed to evolve and create new stuff, not just more of the same. - Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why the fuss about that song? Does he not play it live much?
- PATSCRU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"This is what the music industry needs."
totally, i was super indifferent to the new NIN album, i loved their old stuff, but could care less about the new stuff....until i started getting into the Year Zero stuff, and reading the different websites and unfolding a story about a not-too-distant future is not the just the future of marketing, it is the future of media. This makes every type of media; books, movies, music, seem so old fashioned....NIN has created a world and it's totally engrossing....great job guys. - adamwebs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4All I can say is Trent Reznor is a ***** genius.
How much more accurate can one person be at exposing the ills of our present-day society, and in an artistic manner? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah, too bad that the song he played actually IS Last. Chorus "this isn't meant to last. this is for right now."
It's bad ass. I saw two of their With Teeth shows and wanted to hear Last or Heresy, but the second show he opened up with Mr. Self-Destruct. Mind-blowingly awesome. - mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4What a ***** idiot. NIN has been playing LAST at every show on the last Overseas tour.
- maexus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have mixed feelings about everything after The Fragile. Honestly, some of these new tracks, that's what side projects are for. We obviously saw how that went with Tapeworm. I loved The Fragile. In fact, I believe The Downward Spiral and The Fragile are his two masterpiece albums.
- jsmucker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4After watching the video I'm so damn Jealous!
- edrift101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3F'ing Awesome! This is why I love Nine Inch Nails.
- jeffram, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Great stuff. This alternate reality game isn't so "alternate" anymore.
- imbetterthanu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's on a torrent via demonoid if you have an account there.
- Ret0x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3He didn't leak Closure, but he didn't care that it was leaked either. It was a "guild free download" according to him.
- somesthetic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2except that it is last.
'tard. - dagooh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1120774/3100888/
- tescovee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wow that video gave me chills, so bad ass
- xmodem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love how Trent is marketing this album. First of all its freaking amazing, i thought with teeth was great but Trent just keeps outdoing himself. I love how he has themed this album as a future record in which freedoms have almost been completely stripped from the public and now there is Resistance to return the freedoms we lost.
Strikes a huge cord on how politics today will affect us in the future. But I'm so excited now for the upcoming tour which will happen. The concert in Minneapolis at the xcel was absolutely amazing. - tehjames, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Woah, man I got the chills so hardcore when then that beat started...
Ohh yeah... - JohnP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2...And one of his best songs ever.
- alextothestars, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1most of us didnt get to experience the hype for a lot of the concept albums of the past.
trent made this happen and we should all be grateful.
the alternative is the new silversun pickups cd.... - newezra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually they did a mini tour here in SoCal only playing a super small venues right around the time that they released With Teeth. I had a friend who managed to get tickets and said it was amazing to see them play in such a small venue.
- mustang5o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@imbetterthanu
Thanks for correcting the other poster. Just because the song starts off "Gave up..." doesn't mean that's the name.
Oh yeah, sweet video. LA sucks you lucky f*ers. :) - rezzy333, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2sweet stuff. I hope some of this underground stuff makes it to canada. sigh
