- cvraider7, on 03/23/2009, -3/+72She tried to make some new songs, but they said NO, NO NO.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 03/23/2009, -7/+60How about she tell the label to ***** OFF and release whatever she wants online, where she can make REAL money?!
- rufus2, on 03/23/2009, -1/+531. Record company rejects new songs.
2. Keep publishing rights to new songs.
3. Wait two months for Amy Winehouse to OD and die.
4. Announce release of "lost" Winehouse tracks.
5. Insert meme. - Jhiaxuz, on 03/23/2009, -11/+58Back to working the corner for crack.
- atomicpoet, on 03/23/2009, -8/+52Crystal meth can only take you so far in the singing world.
- kwasmosis, on 03/23/2009, -0/+35Hmm, I still want to hear what she made. I'm just a little bit curious. Even if it is complete crap, I want to know how crappy it is.
- sn4ke666, on 03/23/2009, -2/+33She's definitely talented. She just has absolutely no self-control.
- angusm, on 03/23/2009, -2/+31I sense a business plan here:
1. Reject Amy Winehouse's innovative reggae-influenced works.
2. Force her to record something more anodyne and pop-friendly
3. Lather, rinse, repeat, until she either OD's or finds Jesus and stops making music.
4. Put out the reggae-style session tapes as "rare and unreleased" for all the fans in mourning over the end of her career
5. ???
6. Profit! - Yahn, on 03/23/2009, -0/+27she's more into heroin and coke i believe
- borez, on 03/23/2009, -1/+24They won't have rejected the songs because they are bad, they'll have rejected them because they don't sound like every other homogenised piece of ***** music that floating up the charts and probably they're a little bit different. I mean look what they did with Lilly Allen's new single, they managed to kicked the reggae sound she had ( and which made her stand out ) in the gutter with exactly the same deal... Horrible
***** the Majors, ***** their outdated working methods and business practises, ***** their 'Chicken in a basket' take on what good music should sound like and ***** all of their failed musicians that tried to make it, didn't, and became bitter A&R men who think they know what good music should sound like.
FTR: They don't. - Mersonix, on 03/23/2009, -9/+32Anyone else find it horribly ironic that someone with "Winehouse" for a last name is an alcoholic?
- teknomaker18, on 03/23/2009, -0/+23At least it shows they are not writing it for her.
- diskoh, on 03/23/2009, -0/+21Ditto, she has a really smooth voice and a classic sound. She could've really been successful for many years if she didn't do whatever it is she did with the drugs.
- L0phtpDK, on 03/23/2009, -1/+21Release the tracks to the fans and let us judge.
- bpoteat, on 03/23/2009, -0/+20She probably has obligations from a ***** contract made before she was famous. Happens quite often.
- aimhelix, on 03/23/2009, -0/+14I like Winehouse - even after all the bad press and bad decisions made in her life. I still like her music and I'm curious to hear it. Why can't she just release it online for download? ***** the labels.
- joeboy70, on 03/23/2009, -2/+15maybe it's in the genes - there must have been a reason why one of her ancestors was called 'winehouse' ;)
- DJProxy, on 03/23/2009, -0/+13This is EXACTLY the first thing I thought when I read this. Make her record as much crap as possible so when she DOES OD, they can make a fortune.
Hell...Tupac is STILL putting out albums. - bantamdraper, on 03/23/2009, -0/+13no matter how bad her public images gets tainted i still liked her last album a ton even though she is probably ***** crazy.
i have a feeling the album is actually good, but the a&r's don't want to risk putting out a reggae album not to mention her persona is an even bigger risk.
hopefully this stuff will get leaked eventually. - hark659, on 03/23/2009, -4/+17Release it on Torrent.
***** the RIAA ! - spiralspirit, on 03/23/2009, -1/+13whereas she certainly sings well, I don't think her chemical abuse, rock-star style relationships, etc, show her to be an amazing person.
- cambob76, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1225 years old? only 2 more years to go... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/27_Club
- Don_Gero, on 03/23/2009, -0/+11Yeah I'm also kind of interested. Reggae? I like reggae, and if the label rejected it, then it can't be half bad considering the ***** that they do accept.
- skeletorcares, on 03/23/2009, -0/+11Then they show a contract and a million high priced lawyers. The record industry has lawyers right?
- inactive, on 03/23/2009, -2/+12yeah, I carry a red lightsaber.
- mrgreenjeans, on 03/23/2009, -1/+11Corksoakers
- smacksaw, on 03/23/2009, -0/+10True, it's more of a "chaser" for her. A buffet item, really.
- downneck, on 03/23/2009, -0/+9BOW DOWN TO YOUR ***** CORPORATE OVERLORDS
- alwaysnomadic, on 03/23/2009, -1/+9whiny crackden
- gortface, on 03/23/2009, -23/+31I like Amy Whinehouse
- drunkenoaf, on 03/23/2009, -0/+7I'd say it was less reggae and more 50's soul
- kinerry, on 03/23/2009, -1/+8because like most artists, she thinks it's all about the label and "getting signed!" that makes the artist
- bdiggitty, on 03/23/2009, -0/+7I hate when labels exercise this option. This same exact thing happened to Wilco with Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Their label rejected this album thinking it would alienate fans. They let Wilco out of their record deal and let them keep the album. Wilco released it online and fans loved it. The label turned around and paid a lot more for the album than originally planned. Since it has been one of the most critically acclaimed albums of all time and catapulted Wilco into indie superstar status. Shows what little labels know, and illustrates completely why the major label industry is imploding. Labels blame the guise of piracy, whereas they should be looking at their own stupid decisions, and the emphasis they place on appealing to 13 year old girls. By the way, if you haven't heard of Wilco I encourage you all to familiarize yourself with them. They are amazing.
- MtnXfreerider, on 03/23/2009, -2/+9or back to finding a new record company... a proven artist (if she doesn't suck - I havent ever heard her) should have no problem finding someone else to snatch her up and make money off of her.
Now, if she in all actuality sucks, then she needs to suck it up and be glad shes getting paid. - orthodoxDrew, on 03/23/2009, -1/+8'dark' reggae? huh?
- fknrat, on 03/23/2009, -0/+7no she's not.
- wordfan, on 03/23/2009, -0/+6I like the fact that some of the tracks are supposedly too dark. Because people who buy her albums are looking for that ray of sunshine that only Winehouse can provide.
- Betrayer, on 03/23/2009, -0/+6OK so where are the songs then... she should release them for free....
(i bet the record company would claim that they own the songs if she did) - Kidddrunkadelic, on 03/23/2009, -0/+6Actually not enough ganja, too much of the other junk.
- inactive, on 03/23/2009, -1/+7a lot of 'back to black' had a reggae sound and was cool, but it also had mark ronson producing, which is unlikely this time around.
- JCougar, on 03/23/2009, -1/+7I kinda dig the reggae songs she's already done. Especially her cover of "Hey Little Rich Girl" at Glastonbury. But at least she came back w/ something from her Carribean trip (unlike the notoriously rowdy Happy Mondays).
- GothAlice, on 03/23/2009, -0/+6Hey, Amy, throw your stone-age controlling organization to the wind and self-publish. You get to keep far more of the money, and you can outsource advertising to trusted third-parties, and let's not mention keeping full rights to your creations. http://www.tunecore.com/ If -I've- made money, imagine what an honest musician can do! (Yes, this is spam, but it's spam for a service that I love. No, they haven't paid me for this spam.)
- nosenseofself, on 03/23/2009, -0/+5I'm more surprised that she's 25 years old. She looks somewhere in her 40s
- ltzanders, on 03/23/2009, -0/+5Amy's got issues, but that blows. I mean come on she's done covers of ska and reggae stuff in live performances that weren't that bad so what gives?
- smacksaw, on 03/23/2009, -1/+6Amazing train wreck.
- solid12345, on 03/23/2009, -0/+5But it is about getting signed, what quality artists have gotten popular off the internet, Soulja Boy and the Chocolate Rain guy?
- capachino, on 03/23/2009, -0/+5how could anyone cope with such an ordeal? maybe she should try drugs to ease the pain
- AndrewMoyer, on 03/23/2009, -0/+5They basically told her what she wrote isn't going to fly, so now she has to go and write what they wanted to hear from her.
It's a shame when artists are sandbagged buy business types... but then again, the songs could be complete crap. - ElPapaPollo, on 03/23/2009, -1/+6http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irony
