- danc4498, on 07/02/2008, -1/+17I actually hated In Rainbow when I first heard it, but after giving it a few more tries, it turned in to one of my favorite albums of the decade. I can't wait to see what Radiohead is up to next.
- thebrokenlight, on 07/02/2008, -2/+15I'm almost certainly in the minority for this, but In Rainbows is my favorite Radiohead album.
- TaintBrush, on 07/03/2008, -1/+14"When you're making a record, you should be transitioning." - Thom Yorke
Exactly. A lot of bands don't do that, and I think that's why a lot of music sucks these days. - jwambaugh, on 07/02/2008, -0/+9Is there a Radiohead album that people haven't said that about? :)
- rukeypoo, on 07/03/2008, -1/+8August 1st is so far away.
- optoomistic, on 07/03/2008, -0/+7that's not a comment
- kpwells, on 07/03/2008, -2/+8Radiohead is my favorite band :)
- sumeetg, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5My favorite is OK Computer
- Borgesandme, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5It's not about who is the most experimental. It's not a contest.
- coleyslaw, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5reckoner is the most beautiful song i have ever heard.
- Nidy1, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5http://www.lollapalooza.com/default.asp?fd=1
Do some research before making sweeping statements. It makes you look stupid if you don't. - TaintBrush, on 07/03/2008, -1/+5You're cool because you can rattle off band names.
- Janizzary, on 07/03/2008, -2/+6Radiohead are the future of Rock music. They're, hands down, the best band out there. 'In Rainbows' is like audio meth to me; I just can't stop listening to the damn thing!
- gavin422, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4No, there are a lot of bands that cover ground long before it hits the mainstream. But any band that can take elements of the experimental avant-garde and bring them to the mainstream is moving music forward.
- JamesMH74, on 07/03/2008, -4/+7In Rainbows is the most beautiful album I have ever heard.
- t4ll3y, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3As a Radiohead fan I dugg this up because you stated your opinion without being a total dick.
- gavin422, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3You got fooled into selling your Radiohead ticket for cheap, didn't you? They've already played several shows in the US, with more to come.
- jodofashodo, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3I commend you for having an opinion, I'd just like to hear why you have it...
- rustyrobot, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Exploring new musical paradigms is not a weak thing to do like you make it out to be. It sounds like you are saying that rock is the ideal genre and it is a cheap gag to stray from it. I think Kid A is a better example of "self confident brilliance." They knew what they were doing on that album (I don't feel that there is a weak track) and the jump in style was unbelievable.
- Borgesandme, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2By saying that it isn't?
Can's progressiveness is dependent on on how it influenced Radiohead and other artist, and then what those artist did with it. Art and progress are cyclical
Not to mention if you want to judge experimentalism Can has nothing on Bach, but as my original point says it isn't about that. (Although I will confess I listen to Can but not Bach.)
Why did you read the article if you didn't like Radiohead? Why did you comment? What did you expect? - gavin422, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Guys, guys, guys, all you need to do is read a few of CardHockman's comments and responses here to realize that he's just baiting you. And music fans are quite easy to bait. Don't fall for it.
- sodade, on 07/02/2008, -3/+5Although Radiohead has shown themselves to be an evolutionary band that has achieved incredible depth and maturity in their last four studio efforts, none of these have come anywhere close to OK Computer, where every single song was rich and dripping with a self confident brilliance that didn't need to explore new musical paradigms to be interesting. All four of their post OK Computer efforts have weak tracks in comparison to the great ones. In Rainbows has a couple songs that belong on a TY solo effort.
- kitsua, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2Can are awesome. Radiohead are awesome. Music is the best. Grow up and have some fun.
- Tycal, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2I'll have to say Amnesiac
- tcpip4lyfe, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2I saw them in St louis a month ago for 30 bucks. It was amazing.
- sugarbob, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2such an old 'argument' bands will always play their new stuff...it's why they write it, it's why the progress as a band. They can't stick to OK Computer setlists forever, you're always want to want something new to express. Also that 80/20 analogy is completely wrong. I saw radiohead about 2 months ago and they knocked out over 20 songs...hmm 10 tracks are on the new one, if they played the whole new album they're still coming up with over half the concert being 'old' material.....
you can't please everyone all the time :) - fakeplasticsnow, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2While I agree that OK Computer is amazing, I honestly like Kid A better. There is not a bad track between them, which makes it all the more incredible that a band could produce two flawless albums in a row that sounded nothing like each other.
- thewalkrecords, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Great interview. The constant transition or evolution in RH music is a rare quality in music, and a sign of great artists. In words of TY, I hope they keep "confident for a change".
- jodofashodo, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3I'll be there with you man, not very close because of The Raconteurs on the other side of the park..but I still can't wait!
- rustyrobot, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2You are right, I do think you are a prick.
And seriously, stop naming off every band that you listen to. We get it, you listen to music people are unfamiliar with. So do I and a lot of other people on Digg.
Artists are not your dancing puppets. It is extremely difficult to play 10 year old songs over and over again without starting to hate your own material. For the sake of the sanity of my favorite bands, I can accept that they don't want to do this. - vichussmith, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Dugg just for Radiohead
- rukeypoo, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2That's exactly my predicament as well. I wish Jack White didn't own my soul.
- sarixe, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Earlier stuff probably.
- turkings, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2O.K. I gave you the benefit of the doubt. I watched a video of Amon Duul II on Youtube. I felt violated, like I was watching low grade porn. Really progressive!!
- aaeyers, on 07/03/2008, -5/+6Radiohead is nothing short of amazing.
- nutniqs, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Yes, but that was before the entire collapse of the music industry. The whole paradigms they are exploring so to speak are a direct reaction to the record industry as of late but In Rainbows still feels strongly polished and couldve been a great album for MTV and the like. (If it was still 1998)
- kpwells, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I saw them in Charlotte and they played weird fishes, myxomatosis and idioteque back to back to back...3 of my favorite songs ever :) and they finished with paranoid android and reckoner. Amazing show
- Nidy1, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1P.S. Anyone want to go to Lollapalooza with me? :P
- wallish, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1As far as In Rainbows goes, I personally like Nude better than Reckoner, which would be close second.
- kpwells, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1got a ticket for me? I'm definitely down to go!
- inactive, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2These days? This has been a problem since the dawn of music - bands try to stick with the "in" sounds, and never move forward. This is why most bands never survive the "next big thing" in music.
- strOphe, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I believe that In Rainbows has something of a feel similar to The Bends: a big transition from their previous work and into a newfound maturity that is at once coping with their previous accomplishments and looking into the future. Call it a hunch, but I have a feeling the next one may come to be the OK Computer of the century, or at least this time around the bend.
I think OK Computer did have the confidence, but Kid A was, as they talk about openly, a real struggle to complete. It sounds like that confidence has largely returned after their hiatus and with the band growing as they have over this period they may be finally ready to delve into the musical readiness that made OK Computer possible. - nshady, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1OMG new album soon!?
I'm flying all the way from Australia to Germany to see them live in three days - can't wait. :D - kitsua, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1OK Computer was a left-field mind-***** of a record when it was released. As surprising and polarising as Kid A was three years later.
In Rainbows is easily the equal of OKC, IMO. - Pake, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1"Even one of my favoirte groups, Tool, has fallen into this trap as their early 2000 tours to support Lateralus were awesome and included nearly all of their previous hits along with new stuff in a very good melding of old and new, while their current tours are almost all 10,000 days songs including the "awesome on CD when I am in the mood but I really don't want to hear this whole thing live Wings For Marie tracks and Lost Keys+Rosetta Stoned songs which take up a half an hour by themselves. These long as hell tracks take any time away from the old school songs that grew their fanbase."
This is just retarded... How can someone bitch about hearing Wings for Marie or Rosetta Stoned live? *****, the beauty of such long songs is that they often play extra parts or bring on people to play as well. I mean shesh, did you get pissed when they played *****? It's long as well and comparably, most of their songs are longer than other bands produce. The average song from them is basically 6 minutes, which is practically twice that of other bands. When you combine Parabol and Parabola, it's over 9 minutes and they almost always play them together. Lateralus is over 9 minutes. Vicarious and Jambi are both over 7 minutes. Hell, majority of their best songs are freaking long. - bawz, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1In reading the comments I see what love about Radiohead; Each of their albums evokes a strong opinion from fans.
- sodade, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I didn't mean to portray it as "weak," the point that I was making is that it is a lot easier to sound fresh and interesting when you are exploring new paradigms. Taking a decidedly saturated genre and improving on it is simply more of an amazing accomplishment than exploring new paradigms of music. When they come out with the "OK Computer" of their current lines of exploration, that will be amazing, but as it is, they keep making "The Bends."
- WhereAmI, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1See you guys there. Well not really I have a thing about meeting people online (don't) so I'll be with you in spirit.
- fakeplasticsnow, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I love all those bands, but Radiohead took what they did and made it much better. Even if you like those bands more you don't have to hate Radiohead to enjoy them.
- adg00101, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I totally digg RH.
