- Protoss, on 07/15/2008, -1/+99Amazing, Radiohead is really determined to tread off the beaten path with In Rainbows, in every aspect.
And damn, http://code.google.com/creative/radiohead/viewer.h ... this is ***** awesome, you can manipulate every frame of the video! - The_Wallbanger, on 07/14/2008, -2/+63I was told that aiming laser pointers at someone's eyes could make them go blind. Thom Yorke has balls.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -4/+46i'd expect nothing less from one of the greatest bands ever.
- Protoss, on 07/15/2008, -2/+39So don't get any big ideas.
They're not gonna happen. - r2builder, on 07/14/2008, -1/+32Anyone know how I can get that data into Maya? I have a big idea.
- Khadar, on 07/14/2008, -5/+35One of the best Radio Head music videos to come out. And for the longest time Karma Police was my favorite music video period.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=9Ay699qcSb4 - r2builder, on 07/14/2008, -0/+27I didn't tell you my idea, I only told you which tool I might use. Btw - it was me who made the Radiohead vid that uses all the old tech equipment.
- dshPls, on 07/15/2008, -1/+27They have a 3d viewer that's pretty awesome, it's flash based though. You can even watch Thom Yorke sing as you rotate and manipulate it, I thought it was ***** slick.
http://code.google.com/creative/radiohead/viewer.h ... - audleylibrary, on 07/14/2008, -3/+26Pew pew pew
- Bob042, on 07/15/2008, -3/+25It's a little silly that they say that no lights were used. I get their point, but the description for the "making of" basically says "They didn't use any light, they used LASERS!"
Sure. Lasers are made of magic.
That said, the data visualizer is pretty amazing. - trekie1701, on 07/15/2008, -0/+21If you browse over to http://code.google.com/creative/radiohead/viewer.h ... you can interact with the video and its really ***** cool.
- LowFuel, on 07/15/2008, -0/+19Agreed. Of all the Radiohead videos, this is definitely one of them.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -0/+18Radiohead > Coldplay
- DforSpiD, on 07/15/2008, -1/+19Balls made of lasers!
- amnesiac096, on 07/15/2008, -0/+17Radiohead*
Radio Head is a song by the Talking Heads which Radiohead got the name from, but the band combined the two words into Radiohead. - AK10, on 07/15/2008, -1/+16The Radiohead video with all the old tech equipment was absolutely amazing. I would love to see what you could do with this data. Lets hope they release the raw data with a creative commons license. If any band would do it, it would be them.
For anyone who has not seen your video, here is the link:
http://www.vimeo.com/1109226?pg=embed - kaleesh, on 07/14/2008, -1/+15a new kind of awesome (:
- terminal157, on 07/15/2008, -0/+13Coldplay is Radiohead's retarded child.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -1/+13i said "ONE OF".....you go ahead and name a band from the last 15 years that you think
has made at least ONE album that rivals "The Bends", "OK Computer", "Kid A" OR "In Rainbows"...
come on, who? Nickelback? Hinder? Papa Roach? Limp Bizkit?
I weep for your ears if that's the case Mr. Elitist. - Serphyas, on 07/15/2008, -1/+13Watching someone sing from the inside of their face...is weird.
I thought I'd put that out there. - rewindforward, on 07/14/2008, -3/+14Great video but certainly not my favorite Radiohead video
- feedroh, on 07/15/2008, -0/+11wow.. this is so ***** awesome. been reading Neuromancer and this is definitely what the matrix looks like. feel like a cyberspace cowboy! YEAH!
- revjustin2, on 07/14/2008, -1/+10Now everyone else does, too.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -0/+9Um, duh.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -0/+9... I'm not convinced.
- chedabob, on 07/15/2008, -0/+8Not with a Class 1 laser (which is what the LIDAR system uses), which is invisible to the naked eye.
- rdolishny, on 07/15/2008, -0/+8If you haven't found it click the making of page, press the PLAY triangle, wait a moment, and prepare to be blown away. I've never seen anything like this.
- revjustin2, on 07/14/2008, -0/+8@r2builder - just mentioning Maya gives us a clue, but you're right, you didn't explicitly give anything away. Just joking anyway. Hope someone can help you out and you get your project underway. Looking forward to the result.
- mecharabbit, on 07/15/2008, -1/+8Thom Yorke has abnormally large pores.
- IronGoldfish, on 07/14/2008, -0/+7Absolutely beautiful. It matches the song so well. It's really amazing how fluid and organic it looks.
- garvallagh, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory?id=5368193
You could ask these 61 people if its a myth - amercer, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7This video was not meant for Youtube. We need some delicious HD goodness. NOW.
- borez, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7you no understand.
- Depravo, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7Lord above! I do declare that that band has more creativity than many record labels have in their entire catalogue.
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -0/+6"Coldplay is so much better"
- idiot children - Peepo, on 07/15/2008, -5/+11Don't get any big ideas
They're not gonna happen
You paint your house white and feel the noise
But there'll be something missing
And now that you found it, it's gone
Now that you feel it, you don't
I'm not afraid
She stands stark naked and she beckons you to bed
Don't go you'll only want to come back again
So don't get any big ideas
They're not gonna happen
You'll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking - loquedesea, on 07/15/2008, -1/+7well that explains that wonky eye of his...
/sorry, lobbed that one right over the plate. - Thater, on 07/15/2008, -0/+6Plus they showed the crew shining a really bright light right into Thom Yorke's face...
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -0/+6Yeah. On the video too :)
- bouche, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5i wonder what can be done with the data that is downloadable?
- GhostFreeman, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5I like it a lot. Didn't like House of Cards, but I love the video.
- ozroy, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5It is true. But it depends on the strength of the laser and the wavelengths etc. Obviously there are lasers that are perfectly safe, like these ones. And then there are ones that will instantly burn a hole if you are not wearing the correct protection.
- bouche, on 07/14/2008, -1/+6nice to see Google posting this up. I'm sure there will be a true 3D movie done like this sometime.
- N01SE, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5This method is very similar to the digital scanning methods used by Pixar, Dreamworks, etc. to scan in the clay sculptures of their characters into their modeling software for further modification and rigging. When you digitize an asset, you first determine how densely you wish to sample them (that is, store what the laser hit location is), each sample produces a three-dimensional vertex, hence all the dots, you can connect these vertices anyway you wish, for animated movies they are connected to create triangles, for this video they were connected to their neighboring samples, hence the lines effect. In theory, you could sample so densely, the result would be an exact replica of the surface (down to even the microscopic elements). Very expensive, cool toys. Nice job, that's a great song and video.
- baralo, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5Don't forget Hail to the Theif.
- redcodenl, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4There already are some videos created with the open-sourced clip-data:
http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=hJhiG4rXpzY
Mine: http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=uOX_6VRBDwc - tanuki0, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4It's not the same kind of laser, is it?
- BrandonWicks, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4@getbusyliving
You're entitled to your opinion. Buried for the insincere apology. - benzzene, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4Wow, thanks for the link AK10. That's one of the most incredible things I've seen.
- Thater, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4Thom's face is really disorienting.
