- strafefire, on 10/11/2007, -15/+322Sorry, but as much as suing the Bush daughters would make my day, we can't all have our cake AND eat it too...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -12/+255aren't those chicks rich, why did they give him such a ***** gift?
- TheKricket, on 10/11/2007, -6/+182a letter ON letterhead?!?!
wow - this guy means business! - brokenspatula, on 10/11/2007, -0/+166$1,800,000 in damages...Because 1 cd can cause so much damage
- superal1394, on 10/11/2007, -13/+173I hope they do it personally, it will definitely push bush to some copyright reform

Hi Mitchell,
You might want to check out section 1008 of the Audio Home Recording Act :
No action may be brought under this title alleging infringement of copyright based on the manufacture, importation, or distribution of a digital audio recording device, a digital audio recording medium, an analogue recording device, or an analogue recording medium, or based on the non-commercial use by a consumer of such a device or medium for making digital musical recordings or analogue musical recordings.
The senate report on the act specifically cites making copies for family members as non-commercial uses, and thus not an infringement. - Stonedonkey, on 10/11/2007, -17/+117Maybe because they hate him as much as we do.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -9/+86Honestly, this is dumb. So many people make mix tapes... lets worry about murders and rapists.
Jail Mate 1: I'm in jail for raping and killing three people. How bout you?
Jail Mate 2: Well, ummmm, I'm here for making a Mixtape CD.... - thcobbs, on 10/11/2007, -8/+66"I hope they do it personally, it will definitely push bush to some copyright reform"
Yeah, cause Bush is the Legislative branch. - andre75, on 10/11/2007, -9/+57Puh, thats a draw. RIAA vs. Bush Family would be nice to see the bloodhounds tear each other apart but I doubt it will happen.

If you're going to copy verbatim someone else's comment (from the comments in the article) at least credit them for it instead of claiming it as your own. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -23/+65You might want to check out section 1008 of the Audio Home Recording Act :

What would he rather? Another SUV? Maybe a big cash vault like Scrooge McDuck had to go swimming around in?
As lame a gift as something like socks is, it's a far cry better than just getting some cash - at least it shows the person who bought or made them was thinking about YOU and went to some effort to do something to recognize you rather than just flip a couple of bills at you.
(That said, I'll take cash over sentiment any day, but that's because I'm a bastard) - SwornPacifist, on 10/11/2007, -2/+39It's a twelve song mix cd, couldn't this be made legally from a source such as iTunes (or any other legal digital music source), with 12 individually purchased songs?
- tehpyro, on 10/11/2007, -7/+42Who said mix cd's were a ***** gift? Seriously... a mix of music is one of the most sentimental gifts you can give.
- slunktoday, on 10/11/2007, -0/+29Buried. It would be cooler if it was the RIAA suing them, not just some guy with a blog writing a letter to the RIAA.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/11/2007, -5/+33"Yeah, cause Bush is the Legislative branch."
Well, he IS the Decider. - norman619, on 10/11/2007, -0/+26I'd put my money on the Bush clan. The RIAA couldn't be that stupid. But they did sue a dead person so I don't know....
- blaaguuu, on 10/11/2007, -5/+28When one is so rich that you already have everything you could want, I guess gifts default to "its the thought that counts" mode.
- it5five, on 10/11/2007, -5/+27Haha. Thats the first thing I thought too.
- BackEnThaWomb, on 10/11/2007, -2/+24if you throw it hard enough you can
- lindseylu, on 10/11/2007, -3/+25The RIAA is being a bunch of penny-pinching babies.
There's no way you're going to get me to support artists who make workout music. - deeboe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22Damages?! What damages?
- rnknowles, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21I smell an IRS audit for one Florida lawyer.
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22Well maybe if artists stop putting out CDs with 1 good song, we wouldn't have to make a mix. This is a ridiculous lawsuit hate Bush or not.
The RIAA is nothing but a middle man that takes money away from artists and music fans. They should be shut down. - dn11, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14agreed, i guess we're the only ones that read the story - and the title is misleading
- insomniac8400, on 10/11/2007, -4/+18What if you downloaded the songs at a dollar a piece and burnt them to one disc? Surely that cannot be illegal.
- bluegender, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13***** frivolous lawsuits....
- Salgat, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Where you been man, Bush is law.
- koonchu, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14This is wonderful news. Bush would turn his cannon on the RIAA and become our greatest ally against copyright terrorism.
Lawrence Lessig must be creaming in his pants right now. - Caleb83, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15Don't the bush twins know their pops has an ipod?
- Ifishbein, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12They'll probably settle; Bush won't send Cheney to kill the RIAA and the RIAA will drop the suit.
- CanceledCzech, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Only 1,000?
- geekee, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Once again, Digg just doesn't get it. Burning a cd for someone you know is a gray area of fair use. Distributing songs to your billion best friends is not a gray area.
- s02mike, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11that is pretty hot
- mortigon, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11How is making a mix CD copyright infringment??? What if you own the original CD for all of the artists?
I HATE THE RIAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - plokij909, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Taken straight from the article's comments.... well done.
- Typhoon2009, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8After Iraq, next stop: RIAA HQ.
- arkhangel78, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Read this again. The RIAA IS NOT going after the Bush twins. This is one person's inaccurate opinion on legal use of an undefined list of songs. Before people digg this inaccurate blog-hype, you really should read between the lines
- xvertigox, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Yup, buried as inaccurate.
- thethorn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Doesn't itunes legally allow one to burn a copy of the music? could these songs not have been purchased legally?
- SamuraiPanda, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Bush can get one of his republican lackeys to make a bill for him, and he'll show his support for it.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7"Well maybe if artists stop putting out CDs with 1 good song..."
It wasn't artists that demanded "hit singles" on CDs. They also killed the idea of a CD/album as a complete work that hangs together or is a work that the artist/band/whatever compiled. - breaker01, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7For sure. This guy who wrote that article sounds like a real douche canoe.
And the title is wicked misleading. - MadOtaku, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6But he can lean on them to push opinion his way. On the other hand, with his popularity, it probably isn't a good idea.
- shark72, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6"This is just getting absurd. Even though it is Bush, $1,800,000 for a mix tape is just egregious. I hate the RIAA with the intensity of 1,000 red hot suns."
Did you read the blog post? The RIAA isn't suing him; the RIAA didn't come up with that number. The blogger did, making a number of (likely false) assumptions. And, as has been pointed out, it isn't even illegal.
Now imagine if some blogger wrote:
"I think the RIAA should strangle kittens."
And then you chime in with:
"This is getting absurd. Killing kittens is just going too far. I hate the RIAA even more now."
Do you see the fallacy there? - themoose, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Somebody, please call the RIAA. I want to hear what they say.
- Beaches, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Who would in their right mind Rip a Paris Hilton CD anyway?
- TKDWILSON, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Has the RIAA EVER sued anyone for copying CD and distributing them physically without profit? I don't think so. They are evil and they would if they could, but they never have.
- TheSabre, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I recently wrote a letter to a guy in Michigan. Can I be front-page news too?
