- haooken, on 11/15/2007, -0/+35Yet another victory in the War on Vowels. /sarcasm
- sockpuppets, on 11/15/2007, -2/+22I'd like to buy a vowel, Pat.
- kappuru, on 11/15/2007, -0/+15It's too bad the name is ridiculous.
Motorola, see what you've done? - iPee, on 11/15/2007, -0/+8wow. what a hideous site design. good concept. just wow. hideous to boot.
- diggtochina, on 11/15/2007, -3/+11Is this digg spam or what?? Its like this guy got 50 of his buddies to digg this at the same time. This site is a design nightmare. To hard to navigate.
- zspeed78, on 11/15/2007, -0/+6Im guessing this company has about 56 employees.
- mrfreeziexp, on 11/15/2007, -2/+8Here's Engadget article about it: http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/15/engadget-founde ...
It's founded by Peter Rojas, the same founder of Engadget, Joystiq, and Gizmodo. I hope it does well it has a lot of potential. - sockpuppets, on 11/15/2007, -0/+5Actually it's a Kevin Rose driven digg. He shouted the duplicate digg to everyone earlier too.
That nerd's thumb has the midas touch of front page diggery. - sockpuppets, on 11/15/2007, -1/+6... because handing it out at your mom's bake sale caused a shortage?
- jackyyll, on 11/15/2007, -0/+4Yeah i was thinking the same thing. Why do all sites these days have to basically be a blog? Can't people be a bit more creative?
- nawzyah, on 11/15/2007, -0/+4Isn't the whole point of these websites is to raise awareness for these relatively unknown artists? How hard is it to click a couple of times and read a bio or take a listen to see if music is yr cup of tea.
- ChristianBk, on 11/15/2007, -1/+5The nme is vry anoyng
- mrfreeziexp, on 11/15/2007, -1/+4Ohh, I didn't get the name until you pointed that out. I just assumed it was an acronym.
- ChromaVita, on 11/15/2007, -3/+6Sponsored by Motorola.
- sockpuppets, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3I'm guessing the number is closer to 65, but that might be my dyslexia talking.
- brwright, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3Oh, I get it.
- RaiderWolf, on 11/15/2007, -2/+5Hello, Moto. The site sucks and so does the name.
Good luck with that. - sockpuppets, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3The kazoo. Which doesn't seem all that impressive until you realize I'm just a sock puppet.
- Richdiet, on 11/16/2007, -1/+4Right idea, wrong implementation:
- horrible site design
- not all music can be downloaded - it's a mish-mash of downloads, streaming and links to blogs
Buried for being the wrong solution, though I do applaud the attempt. Btw, here's Larry Lessig talking about this issue at TED - he basically proposes this kind of site at the end of it:
http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/187 - amphoterous, on 11/15/2007, -2/+5Yes! I love clicking through 3 different pages just to download ONE mp3 from a band I've never heard of!
- mbstrlbstr, on 11/16/2007, -0/+2I submitted this to digg, and trust me, I don't work for them and I'm not affiliated with them outside of having a screename. When I visited the site earlier in the day, it was down for about an hour. When I did get to the site, I took a look and liked the concept, so I submitted it to digg.
- hydrodev, on 11/15/2007, -1/+3exactly
- Kronos6948, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2and you play what?
- hydrodev, on 11/15/2007, -3/+5why did i not get rave reviews when i released mine? http://www.rocksites.com. jeezz what am i doing wrong? I spam digg and everything!
- sockpuppets, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2It's like the Digg comment system, only for MP3's!
- thebenchase, on 11/15/2007, -2/+4Best of luck to this site-- in a world where pirating websites and free music is constantly being taken down, its nice to see some progress in a website like this.
- xxNIRVANAxx, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2u 4gt "O" ws a vwl?
^it's hard, "a" and "you" don't work. - fkr3, on 11/15/2007, -1/+3It's kind of redundant given how many indie sites are already out there offering music for free.
- jackyyll, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2thrs vwls n thr stpd.
- eleraama, on 11/16/2007, -0/+1Probably. But Apple literally licenses the phrase "GarageBand" from them.
- NikZ, on 11/16/2007, -0/+1Ah, interesting. That makes sense, given that the site was around long before 's GB. (ps: that wasn't me who dugg your first comment down... just saying)
- NikZ, on 11/16/2007, -0/+1"after which the software is named"
I'd hazard a guess that they both got the name from "Garage Rock", from which the term "Garage Band" was derived.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garage_rock - sinoth, on 11/15/2007, -2/+3Hooray! Now we can get free music that we don't want. Aren't there already numerous sites exactly like this that provide free music from lesser known bands? The problem is that they can never pick up enough momentum to get beyond a very small indie following. I'd love to see a new mainstream distribution method surface, but this doesn't seem like the answer.
- zspeed78, on 11/16/2007, -0/+1I guessing the diggs went up by the time you saw the message.
- NikZ, on 11/16/2007, -0/+1Ah, interesting. That makes sense, given that the site was around long before 's GB. (ps: that wasn't me who dugg your first comment down... just saying)
- aacidusX, on 11/16/2007, -2/+3buried, for having his friends spam us
- MacPPC, on 11/16/2007, -0/+1They need to do something about the design, you can clearly see that the site's logo has all kinds of jagged edges
- NikZ, on 11/16/2007, -0/+1That's weird, I totally submitted that once and it popped up twice, with no edit time. Stupid comment system.
- raindogmx, on 11/16/2007, -0/+1Yeah, that's a flaw but your comment is pure bile. Pedantic.
- OldGhosts, on 11/16/2007, -2/+2LIKE OMG A MUSIC BLOG!!! SUPER!
- Cymrubeats, on 11/15/2007, -0/+0The site design is woeful. If you're streaming a track, for example, and click to read the artists blog, it reloads a new page altogether, cutting the music off. Pathetic.
- eleraama, on 11/16/2007, -1/+1...Why do we need this? http://www.garageband.com (after which the software is named) has been doing the same thing for years and has actually resulted in record deals.
- Cymrubeats, on 11/16/2007, -1/+0It still doesn't change the fact that the site is a wannabe, a fat old orange blonde, trying to look like a hot teen. Nevergonnahappenyouclattyboot.
- vetal17, on 11/16/2007, -2/+1if only those bands didn't suck fat oprah balls
- andrgo, on 11/15/2007, -3/+2Never heard of those artists...
- p1rj1s, on 11/25/2007, -1/+0Thumbs up on the idea. But I have to comment on the f***** up design. Just makes my head ache... and just because you think it's cool with weird titles, does NOT make it user friendly.
- pennyfan87, on 11/15/2007, -3/+2Ryan Block is a friggin RCRD LBL fanboy.
That's the most biased review of a music service I've ever read.
He doesn't even compare audio quality to iTunes! - nzhamstar, on 11/16/2007, -2/+1i can has metal? Where the ***** is the metal? What a bunch of pansies! One site: http://www.jamendo.org Check it out... good *****. Lots of music (and metal). ALL FREE!
- Pie4Weebl, on 11/15/2007, -2/+1wow there is actually music I like on it!
