- tidu, on 10/31/2009, -2/+23um, this is exactly what musicians do...
- rahga, on 10/31/2009, -3/+16Wrong. It's time to stop flying the self-reliance flag because people with more money than you have pushed to change the laws to keep entrepreneurs and small businesses down. Give me a level playing field first.
- Asrrin29, on 10/31/2009, -1/+12yet somehow forced unfairness by that same government for large corporations is somehow ok?
- LinuxLiberty, on 10/31/2009, -4/+13Expect more of this attitude. The last decade was pretty much a lost decade. The economy had no real growth from the mid 90's until now. Expect the next decade to get far worse. Even if you manage to stay employed it sucks. I managed to avoid the layoffs at my job, but now our workload has been greatly increased, I have to work longer hours, and I am on salary and don't get paid anymore. I would quit but most jobs out there pay far less and demand even more. There are guys with bachelor's degrees with far more experience than me taking jobs for $12 an hour. Its hard to compete with that. I would move but most countries are even more tyrannical than the US.
The bankers and the government in this country view the rest of us like pinatas, they just keep beating on us until they break us and take all of our goodies. It amazes me people keep putting up with this *****. The founders of this country would be ashamed and would have taken up arms decades ago. - rahga, on 10/31/2009, -0/+5DJMattB241 and Asrrin29 are right. For starters, the patent and copyright systems were built to encourage innovation, not protect massive multinational corporations by ensuring lifelong profits. When two of my employers went under and I took a massive pay cut, I didn't get any temporary funds to see me through the tough times.... Citibank did. **** that.
- citizensARREST, on 10/31/2009, -2/+5the songs are pretty sweet
- thesportoflife, on 10/31/2009, -4/+6"Essential in our lifetime and irresistible in our touch,
the great spirits proclaim that
capitalism is indeed organized crime and we are all the victims."
- Refused - skellener, on 11/01/2009, -0/+2I think this is the problem right here. Nobody cares.
The boss doesn't care about you. You don't care about the job or workplace. Nobody seems to like their jobs so nobody cares. This is what has to change.
Would you rather have a ***** job that paid a lot? Or a job you liked that paid decent?
If employers cared more about creating enjoyable work environments and cared about their employees, maybe employees would perform better and be happier. This seems rare in the U.S. right now.
I think it would go a long way to repairing the integrity of the country. It's time to end the "it's just business" mentality. - DJMattB241, on 10/31/2009, -0/+2I think the level playing field rahga was referring to (and correct me if I'm wrong) is to have the government stop being involved in the first place, one way or the other.
- Crimeodial, on 10/31/2009, -2/+4Yeah, outsourcing is a problem, but I don't think these guys are looking for handouts. They just want real jobs, I can relate to that, my job sucks too and the market is absolute crap.
- DJMattB241, on 11/01/2009, -0/+1I currently have a job that I like that pays decent. The bosses "care" about me in so far as they want to see me progress through the company. Help me to help them, you know? Which is fine. I get to refine my skills, they get a better trained and more valuable employee.
But I'm not suffering under any grand delusion that my boss "cares" about me as a human being. We have a mutually beneficial relationship, and as far as that relationship is concerned, we both work to improve it.
I guess what gets under my skin is that when I hear these punk songs or whatever with their "ARGH THE MAN GETS ME DOWN" lyrics, I just picture them flipping burgers and being pissed off that the company isn't paying them $15/hr for it.
*shrug* - schnikies79, on 10/31/2009, -2/+3Refused are ***** dead.
- rahga, on 10/31/2009, -2/+3I hate to say we only have ourselves to blame, since it started with generations older than mine, but when we switched from single-income homes to double income homes, we flooded the market with labor and kept wages down. Our pride and ignorance created this mess, and now young families can't even afford to get started.
- Gnarx, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1At some turning point in history, some ***** recognized that knowledge tends to democratize cultures and societies so the only thing to do was monopolize and confine it to priests, clerics and elites (the rest resigned to serve), cuz if the rabble heard the truth they’d organize against the power, privilege and wealth hoarded by the few- for no one else. And did it occur to you that it’s almost exactly the same today?
- allisonaxe, on 10/31/2009, -1/+2"The bankers and the government in this country view the rest of us like pinatas, they just keep beating on us until they break us and take all of our goodies. So why aren't we fighting back? the internet allows the world to organize, so the "i'm just one man, what can I do?" excuse shouldn't fly anymore. where's the revolution? - allisonaxe, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1"Suppose we did manage to overthrow the government, then what? "
I'm sure one of the founding fathers said the same thing when they were debating kicking out the British.
Please don't think I'm in favor of overthrowing anyone. I think the people screaming secession are idiots. The government and the politicians really aren't the problem, its the bankers who puppeteer them. however, what happens to the bankers if *everyone* were to refuse to play their game? already we're seeing people on youtube revolt (and bankers giving in to their demands, in hopes that other customers don't get the same ideas). what do you think would happen if we all took our money out of the banks and got started in taking credit unions seriously? and what if everyone did it at once? Bank of America, Chase, etc. would be over, out of money, kaput, and they'd no longer have enough money to make the government do their bidding. If we all told the bankers "screw you, we don't actually need you!" we'd all be a lot better off. - SpykerSpeed, on 10/31/2009, -1/+2Calling Somalia "free market" is like calling a meteorite hitting a church "atheism".
But if you do the research and look at the numbers, you'll see Somalis' lives have continually improved without government, regardless of the sideshow violence because of the UN's continual attempts at installing a government nobody wants there.
Check it out, you might be surprised. Health care, literacy, etc have all gone up. They started in a low place, to be sure, but they are gradually improving without government. - LinuxLiberty, on 10/31/2009, -2/+3What would a revolution resolve at this point? Suppose we did manage to overthrow the government, then what? With the culture of America today we would likely replace it with a far worst government.
A slightly more realistic solution..where's the secession? - Mujokan, on 10/31/2009, -1/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSyUTydzAD4
- manchine, on 10/31/2009, -1/+1Dude, seriously, the whole post soviet liberal discourse on "new opportunities" is so deprecated.
(Liberal in the scientific sense of the term, not the american one) - the8thbit, on 10/31/2009, -2/+1Why am I being buried? Somaila is like Austrian school neoliberalism paradise. It's amazing!
- Crimeodial, on 10/31/2009, -5/+3Good to see people making real punk rock! oi!
- the8thbit, on 10/31/2009, -4/+1Huuuuuraaaaaay Somalia! :D
- WombleSlayer, on 10/31/2009, -5/+2Punk ist Tot.
- Sommerlost, on 10/31/2009, -5/+2Hmmm you goto the 1% myspace page, nearly any information, no music or shows to speak of. If this is the work ethic they pour into something they are passionate about then it's no wonder they are flailing around at the bottom of the economical food chain. Many people fail to get ahead, whine and complain, but often place themselves firmly in that category of the unhireable.
- inactive, on 10/31/2009, -3/+0...what?.
- RexxHavoc, on 10/31/2009, -8/+2no worries mate... they bees a guy over in India/China ready to do your ***** job for you (with a smile) and then when mommie and daddie dries up the equity in their house you all can move into a single wide and live off of the Liberal Governments handouts
- SpykerSpeed, on 10/31/2009, -7/+1This isn't capitalism.
Rampant inflation and "business cycles" are caused by the government interference. Austrian economics FTW. - DJMattB241, on 10/31/2009, -9/+3Aww poor babies... your boss doesn't personally care about your personal goals in life.
Welcome to the real world. Did these guys JUST get out of college or something? - schnikies79, on 10/31/2009, -9/+2Forced fairness by the government is theft by other means.
You can't force fairness in economics, nor should you if you could. - doctorgrim, on 10/31/2009, -14/+7Whining about it doesn't do us any good. Make a job for yourself. Start a company, create something, sell on the internet. This is the new economy. Use your brain, be clever, and rise above.
