- DrLeePhD, on 03/04/2009, -5/+25So you can only get the albums at Target or The Pirate Bay. guess which one I'm going to choose.
Trick question. They're Prince albums, so the answer is neither. - slapded, on 03/04/2009, -0/+7I like wandering around target. I never know what im going to find. Yesterday I bought a dvd of the wizard with fred savage, a pair of nice black dress socks, and an eyeglass repair kit.
- Natru3al, on 03/04/2009, -0/+4I can't wait I will definitely pick this up I've been a Prince fan since day one. 3 CD's for $12 is a good deal. Unless your name is Trent Reznor or Radiohead you won't get digg love. Digg needs to diversify.
- inactive, on 03/04/2009, -0/+3There are some seriously die-hard Prince fans out there. I suspect there will be people who will make the trip to Target for the album, but I think the halo of cool is more important to Target and their target demographic. They have positioned themselves as the hip anti-WalMart and done an excellent job branding themselves as such. For their customers Prince still has cache (moreso than Walmart's Eagles or AC/DC would), and so this makes sense.
- prodigitalson, on 03/04/2009, -0/+3Damn. Whats with all the Prince hate?
- AstroZombie138, on 03/04/2009, -0/+3Does anyone have any insight as to the numbers in these types of exclusives? Let's assume Prince gets an extra 30% of profit by giving an exclusive to Target. From his (insert joke here) point of view, profit from the lower number of album sales at Target alone is greater than profit from a higher number of album sales if sold everywhere.
This makes a big assumption that a Prince album isn't an impulse purchase and that people will travel to Target specifically to purchase it. Target likely thinks that people will buy extra things when they make their trip to get the album which will increase their profits as well. Any idea on what the real numbers might look like? - emecks, on 03/03/2009, -6/+9Somehow fitting that this is reported on [the]Time(.com)
- chokeaduck, on 03/04/2009, -0/+3I'll buy it. I still like the guy's work.
- koonchu, on 03/04/2009, -2/+4dugg down, blocked and reported.
- inactive, on 03/04/2009, -2/+4Are you ***** serious? GTFO
- frozenpxl, on 03/05/2009, -0/+2I work at Target.
- chokeaduck, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2He's been Prince again for like 10 years
- username7410, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2They're also selling a line of exclusive Prince clothing...
http://i43.tinypic.com/2rdkrdi.jpg - samson7842, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2This is a very smart move for Prince. Understand, unlike other artists, Prince actually owns the pressing plant. He doesn't have to "hire out" the CD manufacturing. Because of that alone, he doesn't have to do big numbers to make money.Plus, he owns all of the rights to his songs.
Prince will then make a killing when he goes on tour. Because, he can offer all three albums at such a cheap price, more people will be exposed to his music. That means more people will come see his shows. And, I might add, his concerts are almost always sold out.
Say what you want about his music, his business sense is right on "Target." (yes, I know that was corny, but I couldn't resist. ...lol) - iJessicaRabbit, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1Nice game, bitches.
- prodigitalson, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1hahaha. Dugg.
- 83JB, on 03/05/2009, -0/+1what did the comment say?
- whiledo, on 03/25/2009, -0/+1Another factor that might come into play is that target is based in Minnesota. Prince is also from Minnesota. I have to wonder if his fanbase is larger there than in other regions. They have a ***** of Targets in Minnesota and the surrounding states. Just looked it up - 73 targets in MN versus 61 walmarts That's 20% more Targets. So yeah, he's considered a "local artist" there. May or may not have anything to do with the deal, I admit.
- AndrewDB, on 03/04/2009, -0/+1You actually have hopes there will be seeds?
Wow.. I'm impressed. - 83JB, on 03/05/2009, -0/+1what did the comment say?
- mogebier, on 03/04/2009, -1/+1Well, that shows how much attention I have been paying that has-been, then.
- iamghost, on 03/04/2009, -3/+3I heard The Pirate Bay will also be releasing it.
- inactive, on 04/05/2009, -0/+0Yo music http://www.yomuzik.net Yo Music
- koonchu, on 03/04/2009, -5/+5A deal with Target, ey? This coming from the same artist who dubbed himself "slave" after Warner Bros tried to make him a millionaire.
Prince is the epitome of the phrase "closet sellout." - YodaOfDarkness, on 03/04/2009, -4/+4I'm ecstatic just thinking of the amount of money I'll save by not buying/torrenting them in the first place...
- Ghostalker, on 03/04/2009, -3/+3He's still making "music"? Give it a rest already.
- ldkronos, on 03/04/2009, -2/+1Funny, as I think the exact opposite of that. While I'm no Prince fan, I think he's made a number of really good songs over his career, more so than the other two. Yet, while he is really good on guitar, I don't even humor to think of him as being in the same class as Satriani or Vai.
- mogebier, on 03/04/2009, -4/+2Wait... who?
Is he "Prince" again? Not that strange symbol? - freshprinceofMN, on 03/04/2009, -2/+0haha, my name fits well with this story. this is just more evidence of how weird prince is that he is only having his new CD sold at target.
- gkiltz, on 03/04/2009, -2/+0Soooo, now Prince has decided not to sell enough records to break even!
Does that make him the next one to launch into a tirade about illegal downloading?
What about those of us for whom our local Wal-Mart is, for better or worse, better run than our local Target? Do you really think we will make a special trip just for Prince?
Completely insane! - Fleagleman, on 03/05/2009, -4/+1The 3-disc set will be titled, "I have no shame".
- inactive, on 03/04/2009, -7/+2The only thing I can think of Prince doing that sparks attention is him jerking off his guitar on stage at the superbowl, and him being a complete and total ***** to people trying to view his material/songs on Youtube. The man hasn't had an amazing song in forever. I couldn't even imagine 3 discs of his stuff worth listening to.
- HurricaneDC, on 03/04/2009, -5/+0...you DO realize that even though he's a faster shredder, Satriani and Vai are both a MILLION times better than him at actual songwriting, right?
Oh wait, I forgot. You're just a difficulty whore. You don't really CARE about actual song structure.
Silly me. What was I thinking? ^_^ - williepepper, on 03/04/2009, -7/+1WTF is a disc? Who's Prince?

What is Digg?
