- letdowntourist, on 06/05/2009, -3/+51This was just not good. Sorry. The mix was terribly muddy and the song didn't go anywhere.
- pault107, on 06/05/2009, -5/+19US only. ***** that *****.
- inactive, on 06/05/2009, -4/+16Wow, looks like there's a lot of Jonas Brothers and Nickelback fans commenting. Hi, guys!
- ontherunwithaxe, on 06/04/2009, -6/+18Pearl Jam are the nuts - they are brilliant live
- ssquared22, on 06/04/2009, -6/+16I can't wait for the new album, it sounds like "fun" Pearl Jam again
- delatao, on 06/05/2009, -2/+11Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
- pear1jamten, on 06/05/2009, -0/+9There needs to be a lot less Andy and a lot more Max Weinberg.
- msamjr, on 06/05/2009, -6/+14There's some bands that need to stay dead and stop trying to resurrect their golden days - Pearl Jam isn't one of them. If their album has a shade of the energy this song brings, it'll be a very nice addition to the collection.
- bigbadgoat, on 06/05/2009, -1/+8Still playing, still headlining shows, still selling millions of albums, sell selling out concerts, and still rocking the ***** stage every time they step on one.
I've seen a lot of bands live in my day, and Pearl Jam have been by far the best. They are absolutely incredible live. - GOPTroll84, on 06/05/2009, -4/+10Just a wall of noise in comparison to what they were doing back in the early 90s. The song doesn't paint any pictures with descriptive lyrics, tell a story, or offer any insight into life. Taking the easy road to 14 songs and another album. 3 chorus sections with some senseless crap in between and a guitar solo at the end with nothing but bends and feedback.
- hollywoodphony, on 06/05/2009, -15/+21The worst piece of crap I've ever seen or heard. That's definitely not how I would describe this electrifying performance.
- magneteye, on 06/05/2009, -0/+6Unfortunately, this was a less than stellar PJ performance. Eddie didn't sound ready to be playing live, his voice wasn't up to par. Probably needs another month of practice to get it back into shape is all.
- nanowerx, on 06/05/2009, -5/+10As a non-PJ fan, I thoroughly enjoyed that song, impressive.
- AnnVio, on 06/05/2009, -3/+7http://www.tonightshowwithconanobrien.com/video/cl ...
- zephyrxero, on 06/05/2009, -0/+3Has anyone else noticed the rhythm guitar is completely missing from the mix? All you can hear are the bass and lead (as far as guitars are concerned). This is probably the biggest reason people are thinking it sounds bad, you're not hearing all the instruments!
- digitul, on 06/05/2009, -4/+7yeah the mixing was horrible. good song though
- polexia, on 06/05/2009, -0/+3Jesus what is it like national hate on Pearl Jam week? Its fine if you dont like them but sheesh.
- bigplrbear, on 06/05/2009, -0/+3I wish more grunge-era bands would come back out in the spotlight- I miss Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains... even Pixies would be an improvement on the kind of music people listen today that they call "rock".
- polypropglop, on 06/05/2009, -0/+3I hope your not hating on Nickleback, Creed, the Boxmasters, Buck Chery, Jonas Bros, Poison, Back Street Boyz or anyone of my other favorite artists.
- maliath, on 06/05/2009, -0/+3Red Hot Chili Peppers release a handful of good songs nearly twenty years ago. They suck.
- SanTe, on 06/05/2009, -1/+4Hmm. I've been a fan since the beginning and I thought Vitalogy was very uneven -- some very solid tracks here and there sandwiched by self indulgent filler. Same with No Code.
I loved Yield and I still do, very strong record, largely their best work in my opinion. As a start to finish listening experience Binaural is probably my favorite.
Riot Act I listened to once and thought it sucked except for one interesting track, the only song on the record written by Matt Cameron. Their self-titled album in 2006 was an improvement but I still couldn't get into it.
Vs. rocked hard except for the snoozefest that is Elderly Woman and to a lesser extent Daughter, and Ten is their best album from start to finish but with the slick over-production held over from the late '80s getting in the way. If they'd recorded Ten like they did Vs. you'd have a damn near perfect record. - moothemagiccow, on 06/05/2009, -0/+3i thought the mix was crap, the performance was good
- blindmelon1, on 06/05/2009, -0/+3Someone hasn't really been listening to "everything" have they?
- xero69, on 06/06/2009, -0/+2I was really looking forward to this performance as I'm going to Austin in the fall to watch them live at the Austin City Limits music festival. Unfortunately I couldn't really hear the vocals all that well and the rest of the audio sounded muffled. As an optimist I'm going to reserve final judgment until I can hear a studio recorded version of the song. I hope I missed some lyrics, because the song didn't seem to have the intrigue or story telling qualities that their past hits have had.
- maliath, on 06/05/2009, -3/+5Uggghh, the comments are sucking AGAIN.
- FrancisHC, on 06/05/2009, -0/+2I liked that they linked to some of the other "big moments" videos.
I forgot how awesome the Neil Young/Pearl Jam set was. - SanTe, on 06/05/2009, -1/+3I dunno man... "Given to Fly" and "Do the Evolution" from Yield are pretty damned awesome. I liked "World Wide Suicide" from their last record too.
- blindmelon1, on 06/05/2009, -0/+2I like your style delatao.
- scoffey, on 06/05/2009, -2/+4greatest rock band ever? ehhhh......
- RyanBlueThunder, on 06/05/2009, -0/+2I hate to say it, but Given to Fly and Do the Evolution are 10 years old. Damn, that makes me feel old.
From the last album, Marker in the Sand, Gone, and Army Reserve are my favs. You Are from Riot Act was one that stands out in my mind...mostly because I'm a huge Matt Cameron fan...but the past two (studio) albums have felt like a letdown. Especially because Binaural, Yield, and No Code are so chock full of quality post-"grunge" Pearl Jam songs (btw--i hate that term). - 1310nm, on 06/05/2009, -0/+2Since we're discussing our favorite live TV performances, I think this was one of the coolest ones I've seen, and I couldn't find a video that was actually in sync, unfortunately. http://video.aol.com/video-detail/tori-amos-caught ...
The percussionist's set up was really cool, and replicated the actual track really well. Her later performances apparently were done with a trap set. - boojoy, on 06/05/2009, -3/+5I'd like to hear the actual song - their performance on the Tonight Show sounded like one of those bands where they all wear masks and one guy plays the trash can lids.
- dafragsta, on 06/05/2009, -0/+1The priceless REAL '59 stays in the studio. A big band like Pearl Jam probably could afford to take a $5K VOS or any number of high end guitars on the road. It's not even a big deal really. I've heard so many people give excellent performances on absolute beaters of guitars, but I've noticed that Les Paul Jrs a lot more lately and Rivers Cuomo was playing an Epiphone (not really as big a leap down, IMHO) SG in one of Weezer's recent videos. I know Billy Joe Armstrong is famous for playing an LP Jr. as well.
- Rain12913, on 06/05/2009, -2/+3Yeah I was a huge Pearl Jam back in the day but I honestly thought that performance (and the song) was crap. It's sad that the brilliance and originality of the grunge movement that Pearl Jam played such an important role in has been reduced to this commercial crap.
- inactive, on 06/05/2009, -0/+1goddammit. ***** Hulu. honestly.
- drhamr, on 06/05/2009, -1/+2if you don't like pearl jam then you don't like rock music. pearl jam is, was and will always be the greatest rock band ever. if you think pearl jam sucks, i suggest you try to see them live in concert so that you can have your opinion corrected.
- djat94, on 06/05/2009, -0/+1You're totally right, I just rewatched the video and you can't hear stone gossard's guitar throughout the entire song.
- Drewcool, on 06/06/2009, -0/+1They're definitely the greatest American rock band ever!
- pault107, on 06/05/2009, -0/+1Thanks AnnVio.
- inactive, on 06/05/2009, -0/+1I didn't say it sucked, just that it's their weakest effort. Vitalogy, Yield & Binaural are definitely their best albums.
- chaos7, on 06/05/2009, -1/+2pearl jam peaked for me with the album Vs.
- inactive, on 06/05/2009, -1/+2They all emulate pearljam, not nirvana. Nirvana was a post punk band anyway. They had nothing in common with butt rockers like pearljam and stone temple pilots.
- PerennialTears, on 06/06/2009, -0/+1Can someone else confirm this?
- CTK14A, on 06/05/2009, -1/+2At least it's better than The White Stripes on the last episode of Late Night... that was just painful to watch.
- bigplrbear, on 06/05/2009, -0/+1Kurt Kobains death and the demise of grunge is why we have ***** bands like Nickelback, not Pearl Jam.
- imnojezus, on 06/05/2009, -0/+1It's true, they could afford it, but I guess its just preference. Sometimes the old beaters are just more fun to play... you're less worried about screwing them up. BTW, apparently guitar discussion warrants a thumbs down. Jeez, guys.
- ReyX, on 06/05/2009, -0/+1You rawk!
- inactive, on 06/05/2009, -0/+1I'm with SanTe for the most part, Binaural was pure gold. But I LOVE Vitalogy and regard is as my favorite and their best, but I don't hate any of them. I'd put Ten at the bottom of the pile, and probably because every track on it has been so overplayed that I'm just tired of hearing it. I REALLY loved the new remixed versions, though. Much cleaner sound.
- blindmelon1, on 06/05/2009, -1/+2Kanye Sucks!
- shiftkgb, on 06/05/2009, -0/+1Smashing Pumpkins were really never that good live so I stopped listening to them. Alice in Chains is currently making another album or touring again, something as well as Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden won't happen because Cornell is busy making whatever the ***** it is that hes doing now.
