- burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Now that is one beautiful site design. I can't believe I've never seen TechCrunch before.
- Superpoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11they work according to the laws, that's why you can't choose the exact song you want to listen, it's just like any Radio!
- hobbsy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8every single post from techcrunch seems to get on digg
- portis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5IMHO, Pandora works better for me in terms of streaming and music selection. Last.fm is quite boring as they always play the same tunes and have more misses becasue of inaccurate tagging.
- Tony2Nice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Depends on what you're after, really. Last.fm excels in linking you up with other like-minded 'neighbours', and gives you recommendations based on that, thus being a true social networking music site. The stats are a great feature as well.
If straight musical recommendations is what you're after, and no more, stick with pandora. You can't beat listening to a recommendation as soon as it's recommended.
I use both, for slightly different reasons, so I suppose it's what you're after that's important. Last.fm is more social, pandora is better for strictly new music discovery (in real time). - Muss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I currently enjoy using pandora, and am curious if anyone knows how last.fm compares?

"New version of PandoraFM brought to you by Pandora and I." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4except you can keep the songs you listen to
- sithmat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You can manage to skip as many songs as you want on Pandora though. You just jump between stations.
- captaindan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Is anyone else getting tired of "mash-up" being used to describe systems integration as though it had just been invented?
- larryni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As far as I know they pay for some kind of a radio license. That's also the reason that you can only skip a certain number of songs each hour, so that things stay 'random'.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just a shame that Last.fm submissions are down right now so using this at the moment doesn't really do much. However, that said, I was using it last night, and it worked brilliantly! I'm really grateful that the Pandora team are behind this!
- DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3No, since these are two music-related services being combined, "mash-up" seems entirely appropriate.
- lament, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've tried Pandora a few times, and they just don't recommend music I like based on the band I put in. Last.fm does a much better job. And the other problem with Pandora, as already mentioned, is that you can only skip so many songs per hour. And because they're choosing ***** songs, I end up skipping my limit of songs and then I can't skip anymore..
- sithmat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Great news! But I wonder how long until the RIAA pokes its greedy head into this one...
- SirSid, on 05/27/2009, -0/+1I think both are great. This site is going to be my new favorite
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I like Last.fm as I can go to the Artists page, and see what other people that listen to that artist listen to...kinda like a "Customers who bought this also bought this..." type thing. It's introduced me to many different bands. Haven't had much luck with Pandora.
- Soave, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2^ The songs are actually stored in your temporary internet files. You just have add an .mp3 extension and then you've got a fairly good quality song (128 kbps I believe). Navigate to this folder:
C:Documents and Settings[User]Local SettingsTempplugtmp-#
if you're using Windows XP (find the similar folder if you're using a different version of Windows. You'll see files called "access-#". Simply add an .mp3 to the file name. It's usually the plugtmp folder with the highest number. - DaveF, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0icefrakker said "except you can keep the songs you listen to"
How do you do this? It be great to leave pandora.com running and have some program grab all of the tracks to mp3 files with complete tag info. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Pandora's wonderful for that 'away from the house' music fix and it also gives you a lot more artist to check out. With this plugin I can remember these names without having to write e'm down. Nice.

Come on digger's help me out and click this link! http://gh.ffshrine.org?r=3654 (310/1000) Thanks to those whom have helped me out so far! - treelovinhippie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2I think the merger went ahead in this case because I believe pandora wasn't making much money at all despite their advertising and pay-for-no-ads efforts. If last.fm is in the same vote, then merging will help the two eventually crack the market and start making some decent money.
Edit: Oh lol, it's only a third party mashup. Well why doesn't last.fm and pandora merge? - ifonly, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4last.fm > pandora
