- hawk0168, on 11/03/2007, -0/+177This is a perfect example of music being both intelligent and good, unlike like SOME music...
I'm looking at you math metal. - sysoprock, on 10/10/2007, -2/+161"THEY DONT UNDERSTAND TOOL LIKE I UNDERSTAND TOOL!"
- solinent, on 10/10/2007, -8/+114One of the meanings of the songs Tool makes are not to judge people without knowing who they are. (the song is Hooker with a Penis)
I'm 15 and wear a TOOL tee, except that I'm not emo or goth and I don't "cut myself" in the bathroom. Don't judge me and I won't judge you. - the_d, on 10/10/2007, -36/+133Tool is one of the greatest bands in the last couple of decades. Their songs are layered with a lot of meaning that you might not get the first time you hear it. Sort of like a puzzle.
Call me a hermit, but it pisses me off when I see little girls or emo/goth kids at the mall with TOOL shirts on.
They don't even know what the ***** they're listening to. Just go to hot topic and cut yourself in the bathroom. - budser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+63Wikipedia explanation of "Lateralus": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lateralus_%28song%29
- nimrod245, on 11/03/2007, -4/+57Tool has always been one of the most innovative bands.
- alex1015, on 10/10/2007, -2/+50Great song, incredible CD
- staxofmax, on 10/14/2007, -4/+47I'm guessing you like stupid music.
- Rev0lver, on 10/10/2007, -3/+46Tool is by far one of best bands to ever grace this generation of music. It amazes me how each member plays their instrument with SO much expertise. Excellent band all around who continuously keep their fans on their toes with stuff like this.
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 11/03/2007, -3/+45Dugg for TOOL!
- hydroplane, on 11/03/2007, -4/+44Acid + Tool = journey through a black hole
- m4szyman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+40I almost hit bury when I read "I'm 15" too, but the little bastard has a point, dugg up
- EvilDr.X, on 11/03/2007, -4/+39I recognized this when the album first came out, and everyone I pointed it out to looked at me as if I had lost my mind. I need new friends.
- phantom42, on 10/10/2007, -4/+35even more amazing were the overlapping/combined songs on that album

- laeteralis462, on 10/10/2007, -2/+29I ***** love Tool. ***** love 'em. Best band since the 70's. P.S. - my username. ***** yes. TOOL!!!
- scribby, on 10/10/2007, -1/+26Excellent video, lyrics, and explanation. More people need to appreciate the importance of the Fibonacci sequence, the golden ratio, and mathematics in general.
- keyme, on 10/10/2007, -3/+25Cool. Downl..*caugh*..buying the discography right now.
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Maynard said himself the songs mean what you want them to mean. Find your own definition of their music, and enjoy it. At no point did he intend for you to take the songs way out of context, think you found the meaning of life, and then use Tool to hate on other Tool fans.
- svodka, on 10/10/2007, -3/+23Totally Rad.
- haiduz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20just to Clarify...
10000 days and wings for marie were to the 10000 days album
Lateralus is on the Lateralus album - solinent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19Meshuggah :) So technical time signatures XD
- forgiste, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18We are truly blessed to have such wise people in our collective.
- Maybelline, on 11/03/2007, -0/+17Can't believe I'm the only one, but "Forty Six & 2".
- bagelpirate, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Listen to pop or rap, then listen to tool.
The beats/rythms are much more complex. - treed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14The live version of ***** from Salival. If you haven't heard it, go find a copy. They took the same tune but played it differently, and changed the lyrics in subtle ways. It's also like 3 minutes longer.
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15I don't usually say this, but if there's any band you should buy the albums (and support), it's Tool.
- IanPatterson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14I love Tool
- Plant11, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16its pretty cool how nobody tolerates any prejudice but that of young people. And the older generation just assumes that they know everything about them at a casual glance. Its really time to put away these petty, superficial habits and really listen to each other.
- Tyr7BE, on 10/10/2007, -24/+37Buried for being 15.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -7/+20Buried for being judgmental and ad hominem.
Attack the argument, not the person. Else, you've been bested by a 15 year old. Seems like this 15 year old already bested someone who thinks they "know" the music more than everyone else.
solinent, you're a smart kid. Keep your chin up. - solinent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Who cares? Tool is awesome
- m4szyman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13the_d you're the reason people make fun of Tool fans
- SuckMyDigg, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13It's not. Someone just found it out and posted it.
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12I disagree with Bad and Worse, but you're absolutely right about the Worst.
- HeyaBILL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11How do you know? Do you give an impromptu oral examination to every single one of them or are you just judging them by visual cues? "Hermit" is not the correct word for you.
- soopertoll, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Dude, don't fibonacci everything, sit back, relax and just enjoy the song. :D
- lowpartscom, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11This was pretty damn cool. Maynard has always fascinated me. If you haven't seen it already, check out his site for his new project, Puscifer. http://www.puscifer.com/
Be sure to read his blog. Fave so far:
Censorship is a Cancer 10/25/06: Clearly the world is going to implode. Fingers crossed. The merchant account we use to process orders has put a limit on my account because of the link to GodsGirls.com. (because it has boobies) *****. I have boobies. If I'm not mistaken we all have boobies. And now they're nit picking over the content and merch on my site. Does it ever end? The hypocrisy and the double standards? They now want me to outline what sort of stuff will be in the "lids" category. Or the "art saves lives" category. or the "Share the love" category. Blow me. I swear alot. I've been known to indulge in pre marital sex. I know. A shock, right? Let's just get it all out in the open. T-shirts with bad words on them designed for people with boobies. Merch with blasphemous material aimed at sheep. Merch with anti establishment content. Merch with my twisted sense of humor. Merch that is more fine/modern/contemporary art than it is merch. Merch of all shapes and sizes that a portion of which when sold will go to various charities. My patience is being tested. Humor me. Tell me it's all gonna work out. But what ever you do, don't dare go to godsgirls.com. once again... DO NOT FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER go to godsgirls.com godsgirls.com this is not a link. this is not a link. this is not a link. Ladies!!! Fear your sexuality. Fear your femininity. FEAR YOUR POWER!!! Embrace your penis envy. godsgirls.com. godsgirls, com. And whatever you do, don't visit the Vatican either. The statue of David is NAKED!!!!!! I know. I know. What is the world coming to? - fubuvsfitch, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Actually, my fifteen year old friend, the song Hooker With A Penis has nothing to do with "judging others without knowing who they are". In fact, it is about people being hypocritical in and also about how everyone sells out. "***** YOU BUDDY" is aimed at the hypocrite who is described in the song wearing name brand clothes and drinking coke and at the same time calling TOOL a sell out. Maynard admits TOOL sold out, and implies that everyone has sold out and therefore has no room to talk. Again, nothing to do with "NOT JUDGING A BOOK BY ITS COVER", as you suggest.
- Jpesci, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12It pisses you off? Why? They're not allowed to like music if they don't understand it the way you do?
- Kyouto, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10*clears throat*
OH SNAP! - Salival, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Tool is best live. Anyone who has been to the shows will say the same. And NO you can't watch a live youtube of them and even come close to getting the gist.
BTW: The band says there is some puzzle in 10,000 Days but nobody has figured it out yet. - Authustian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Shrooms + tool = a glimpse of the fabric from which reality is woven.
- MaynardJK, on 11/03/2007, -0/+10Right in two, The grudge, Stinkfist, No Quarter (zep cover but it rocks).
- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Best CD insert design ever. This is one of few albums actually worth owning a physical copy of.
- Rev0lver, on 11/03/2007, -1/+10Tool songs are not something you get with a single listen. They're really something you have to meditate on. I've had some of my deepest thoughts listening to Lateralus, 10,000 Days, Parabol/a, etc. The part at the end of Lateralus where it picks up gives me chills over and over again.
- alex1015, on 10/10/2007, -6/+15You mean radiohead
- shadowblade989, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Lateralus.
Or possibly the Patient.
Rosetta Stoned is up there, too. - haiduz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10This is most likely my all time favorite song because of all that mentioned in the video (or 10000 days). I would literally draw out the fibonacci sequence spirals and map the lyrics accordingly all the time in class when I was bored.
This song is amazing because so much meaning can be gotten out of it.
One section of lyrics that the video didnt offer an explanation for but I love is:
"I'm reaching for the random or what ever will
bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.
Spiral out. Keep going."
Live is really about following our will, which is self control, and wind, random events that we dont have control over. Sure there are going to be parts of life that suck, but still its exciting to win the cosmic lottery and have the opportunity to "just go where no one's been".
The song is so powerful for me because it prepares me for the future, I know there will be times when feel like i need to "to step aside and weep like a widow", but then there will also be times when I get a chances "to feel the rhythm, to feel inspired, to fathom the power, to witness the beauty".
No matter how monotone our 30,000 days may seem, we are going into the future, a place where no one has been and its exciting to see what the future may bring because it is such a unique and personal experience that ONLY we get to expereince. Spiral out. Keep going.
//btw. i think the intended track order is 1.2.3.5.8.13.4.6.7.9.10.11.12
"I'll keep digging till I feel something." -Stinkfist. TOOL - naonao, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12I was just going to bury it for Pretty RAD in the title but I won't, cool vid.
