- GoKings, on 02/14/2009, -2/+25I liked Ozzfest until Sharon ***** with Iron Maiden during their set. I waited all Ozzfest just to see Maiden, and Sharon was pulling out cords and threw eggs at them. Needless to say many of us were PISSED.
- holmcross, on 02/14/2009, -0/+18The real reason why Ozzfest was cancled:
*cut to a shot of Ozzy's private jet being gunned down by Dickenson piloting an F-16 with Aces High playing in the background* - inactive, on 02/14/2009, -1/+15Ozzfests have been sucking lately anyway.
- DouglasQ, on 02/14/2009, -0/+14"The whole way it’s being portrayed as being some kind of altruistic holiday for all the bands is absolute nonsense, it’s complete *****. Most of the bands are there because they paid to be there. That’s the way it’s run. We went out and we were like, ‘Okay, why aren’t there any people down the front?’ Well, because it’s restricted seating and because they don’t have tickets. ‘What?!’ That’s *****, so we said so. I said so every night. Some fat ***** with greasy hair sat eating his hamburger with 50 seats empty all around him. Where are all the kids? They’re held behind the barrier and they can’t get any closer, because that’s the way the venue is run. That sucks."
-Bruce Dickinson - josepablos, on 02/12/2009, -6/+17Sharooooooooooooon !!!!!
- inactive, on 02/14/2009, -0/+11You know, it would have been nice if Ozzy hadn't squandered his "reunion" with Black Sabbath and actually recorded new material. instead of releasing more uninspired solo albums with the now stale sounding Zakk Wylde. But then again, I suppose if that had happened, it would have just tainted the Black Sabbath name rather than his own with uninspired material.
But I suppose we should count our blessings though. As now we have the reunited Dio led version of Black Sabbath again, who are releasing a new studio album in April. They are releasing it under the band name "Heaven and Hell". I saw them play both last year at the Metal Masters tour (Judas Priest, Heaven and Hell, Testament, and Motorhead) in Chicago and they were in top notch shape. Also saw them in 2007 when they toured with Machine Head and Megadeth in Cincinatti. Both times Dio sang very well and Tony and Geezer looked like they were truly enjoying themselves. They looked bored when playing as Black Sabbath with Ozzy at Ozzfest 2004 (columbus).
For someone who is 65 years old, dio still can sing like a ***** metal god. He doesn't need a teleprompter to remember his lyrics. His voice doesn't reliably blow out 1/3rd into the set like Ozzy's does. He is also overall more reliable, without having to cancel numerous shows over repeated "throat infections".
I think the whole "Throat infection" problem is due to Ozzy overstraining himself singing songs that he is no longer capable of singing. He is blowing out his voice completely and has to wait until it returns This is also likely the reason Blaze Bayley frequently canceled shows when performing with IRON MAIDEN. - terracottapai, on 02/14/2009, -0/+10Other than his name is Dickinson?
- Mankind121, on 02/14/2009, -0/+10Not really a big loss, they've been having some ***** lineups.
- holmcross, on 02/14/2009, -1/+11Dickson brings the metal. Ozzy brings the reality shows. What else needs to be said?
- Latentk, on 02/12/2009, -4/+12I've been to 3 Ozzfests and loved all of them, wish I caught Metallica but meh, saw the Prince of Darkness perform twice so that has to be worth something. This is unfortunate, I could understand health concerns, but no album? Bummer.
- holmcross, on 02/14/2009, -4/+12The last year for a good Ozzfest was '98.
Or maybe thats because I was still young and hadn't yet realized that the bands that play there suck ass.
(the exception is Iron Maiden, who will always be king. But we saw what happens when a skilled band plays at that corperate *****). - DouglasQ, on 02/14/2009, -0/+7Ozzy's puppet-faced wife is gonna have to find more creative ways to antagonise herself to Iron Maiden fans and the entire metal community this year.
- thejokker, on 02/14/2009, -0/+7didn't know much about that guy, but apparently his is a pretty bad ass dude. From Wikipedia:
Dickinson's interests include literature, writing, fencing (at which he has competed internationally, and he also founded a fencing equipment company under the brand name "Duellist" [38]), train technology and flying Boeing 757 charter jets for the UK charter airline Astraeus where he is employed as a First Officer.[39] He was taught to fly by British Airways commercial pilot Captain Phil Dales.
.
In the summer of 2006, Dickinson flew about 200 UK citizens home from Lebanon during the Israel/Hezbollah conflict.[citation needed] On 12 February 2007, Dickinson was given permission to fly Rangers F.C. to Israel for their UEFA Cup game against Hapoel Tel Aviv. Dickinson asked if he could pilot this flight as soon as he found Astraeus had the contract for it. After the collapse of XL Airways UK in September 2008 he piloted an Iceland Express aeroplane and flew home 180 stranded holiday makers from Egypt, as well as a Boeing 757 with a group of british RAF pilots from Afghanistan. "A lot of them recognised him because they are Maiden fans, but he was there in his professional capacity as a pilot," says an RAF spokesman. - Sucka27, on 02/14/2009, -1/+8The tour grossed 3.5 million, but what did it net? Probably made a profit but $haron decided that the ***** economy would probably lead to a loss this year so she blamed it on Ozzies album. ***** that skinny stomach-stapled bitch.
- Nouman6, on 02/14/2009, -1/+8Summer Slaughter is where its at \m/
- Manchildcartoon, on 02/14/2009, -0/+6Honestly Ozzfest has just turned into a big corporate band love fest.
When it started out it's intention was to expose bands that few people really knew of, as well as feature a select few big names in metal. Then something changed in the early 2000's and it became solely focused on big names. All this is in part due of course to Sharon Osbourne's complete control over the festival. It's obvious she's made terrible decisions and it's even more apparent when you take a look at the whole Maiden indecent a few years back. I personally think Ozzfest should just throw in the towell at this point and save them selves from more shame.
Besides there are two other summer and winter festivals worth checking out which are comprised of lesser known acts and always one headliner.
Gigantour-Megadeth's Summer Festival (thrash, heavy metal, post hardcore, ect...)
Blackest of the Black-Danzig's Winter festival (metal, black metal, death metal, industrial, ect..)
and then for those who want to see a mix of everything there's The New England Metal Fest. - jedinate, on 02/14/2009, -0/+6At one point, years ago, he challenged David Lee Roth to a fencing duel. Needless to say Diamond Dave wanted no part in that.
- inactive, on 02/14/2009, -0/+6Ozzfest lost all credibility the moment they featured Crazytown
- 2Six119, on 09/10/2009, -0/+6Ozzfest has been getting progressively worse over the years, the bands just keep getting *****. I for one do not care, Gigantour ftw
- MurphyWatson, on 02/14/2009, -1/+7I don't get the reasoning at all. There's been an ozzfest like every year for a long time and I know that Osbourne hasn't had a new album every single year. I always thought it was just named after him, not a tour that promote his newest album or whatever.
- DouglasQ, on 02/14/2009, -0/+6Iron Maiden are just all round awesome.
- cyberthief, on 02/14/2009, -1/+6just going to have to hit up Gigantour again !! i like megadeath better than ozzy any way.
- tsunami643, on 02/14/2009, -0/+5This means The Whitest Kids U' Know lied to me...
- xero69, on 02/15/2009, -0/+5The late 90s Ozzfests were hardcore. At one show I saw random people gathering trash, but they were not stadium employees. During White Zombie someone threw a 55 gallon trash can at a security guard and we all rushed in to the seating area to use some seats we hadn't paid for.
After dark, and just as Ozzy took the stage, 3 bonfires built from concert related trash were lit in the general admission area. I smelled something burning and looked back into the biggest bonfire and there was my friend and ride home with his shirt off running around with his shirt in flames as he twirled it over his head. The security teams had to come in with ***** tear gas to get close enough to extinguish the bonfires.
I think that was 99, it was the year when Slipknot was on the second stage and not well known. Every year it seems to have gotten more commercial with very few unknown bands. Sharon has commercialized and ruined the whole thing. But who cares when there are now plenty of other festivals to go to. Ozzfest helped create a business model so others could improve upon the whole concept. - jordantneff, on 02/14/2009, -0/+5Not like anyone didn't see this coming. First ozzy stopped playing a few shows, then last year it was only at one location (big bummer) and now it's dead. I don't see it coming back either, something else will take its place, and maybe that's a good thing.
- AmazingSteve, on 02/14/2009, -3/+7No point in seeing Metallica unless it's 1986 again.
- inactive, on 02/14/2009, -1/+52004 was a good ozzfest. You had the freshly reunited JUDAS PRIEST.
- merdiesel, on 02/14/2009, -0/+4Good..
The majority of the ***** fake metal bands that played that ***** sucked anyways. - craterburnsu, on 02/14/2009, -0/+4The actual reason they aren't doing it is there are no headlining bands that will work for peanuts this year, and Ozzfest is notorious for not paying well. They wanted to pay even less this year due to the economy, and it did not fly.
- Elpants, on 02/14/2009, -0/+3Ozzfest went the the crapper.
Now there is this craptastic Rockstar Energy Mayhem thing which is worse.
Maryland Deathfest, Summer Slaughter and Scion Rock Festival seem to be the only worthwhile festivals even though Summer Slaughter is just a massive tour. Necrophagist is supposed to be on the bill for 2009 Summer Slaughter with their new CD in hand. - inactive, on 02/14/2009, -0/+3Doesn't she know theres a depression on? Fans can't afford to go to concerts anymore.
- cyberkickme, on 02/14/2009, -0/+3***** Ozzfest. Its all about Mayhem now.
- ruarctb, on 02/14/2009, -0/+2I can understand him not wanting to split attention till it is gone to press, so to speak.
- Sleepyfox, on 02/13/2009, -2/+4Damn.
- fr1dayafternoon, on 02/14/2009, -0/+2We all owe Ozzy a personally addressed letter thanking him for doing the right thing.
- wtfbatman, on 02/14/2009, -1/+3Uh oh, I stepped on some hoodie wearing gym short wearing toess!
- namelessXsilent, on 02/14/2009, -0/+2i dont care if not one good band played, this sucks. being at ozzfest, just the atmosphere was fun to be around.
- dancantone, on 02/14/2009, -2/+4ROCK ON!!!
\\m//«(o¿O)»\\m//
- inactive, on 02/14/2009, -2/+3I'm guessing what you mean is that YOU are getting old.
- Elpants, on 02/14/2009, -3/+4No, he said Summer Slaughter, where there is more than 1 good band on the bill.
- wtfbatman, on 02/14/2009, -3/+4You mean the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival.
The Black Dahlia Murder, Slayer, Marilyn Manson, Bullet For My Valentine, Trivium, All That Remains, God Forbid, Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth, Job For A Cowboy, Whitechapel.
BDM, Slayer, CC, Behemoth, JBFC, whaaaaaaaaaaat. - jordantneff, on 02/14/2009, -1/+2Hell yeah, I went to the 2007 one with Necrophagist headlining. Most brutal concert ever.
- BigBlitz, on 02/14/2009, -0/+1The older I get the more I dislike festivals. Short sets, terrible venues and and poor lineups pretty much sums a festival.
- thehandNIN21, on 02/14/2009, -0/+1Yeah they really have been. I think the highlight was system of a down and deftones when they were on it.
- xero69, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1thanks for the heads up! ***** the haters and the hate, I'll go to both man
- cerealjynx, on 02/14/2009, -3/+3Him and Steve Jobs are going on a fantasy cruise!
- Ozzsanity, on 02/12/2009, -2/+2If the new album comes out in the fall maybe he can do an arena tour. I am tired of the Ozzfest setup and enjoyed the Black Rain arena tour more than the previous Ozzfest.
- louiebaur, on 02/12/2009, -7/+6Thats sucks Ozzfests are fun as hell!
