- andrewcubbie, on 11/09/2007, -3/+137This has to be a ***** joke.
I need my OiNK. - TimCadieux, on 11/09/2007, -1/+104What a great use of Police time and money, I feel safe to walk the streets now, knowing that none one will walk up to me and give me a pre-release of the next Britney Spears album....whew, that was a close call.
- blue72, on 11/09/2007, -0/+93Because "m00" just doesn't sound right =(
- itsmedamon, on 11/09/2007, -1/+81some of these articles are (obviously) putting a bad spin on it
A Cleveland Police spokesman said: "This extremely lucrative and creative scheme consisted of a private file-sharing website being set up. Membership was by invitation only. "The site allowed the uploading and downloading of pre-release music and media to thousands of members.
"Members paid 'donations' via debit or credit cards, ensuring their continued access to the site."Users were only invited to join the site if they could prove that they had music to offer, according to an IFPI spokesman.
We all know that donations were not required to use the site. This was NOT a moneymaking scheme. - slappe, on 11/04/2007, -3/+58Now where do we all go?
- jankster, on 10/26/2007, -1/+48It was nice having a taste of perfect community for music lovers and it lasted for a while. Sad that it's gone. I hope someone creates a donation fund to cover Oink's legal costs. Got to hate the record industry :(
- dogbomb, on 11/03/2007, -1/+46But if there are 5 replacements - thats 5 seperate userbases, none of which are going to be as strong as the root.
- Sanchez, on 10/26/2007, -3/+44OiNK maybe be gone, but 2TB of data throughput every day can never be stopped... 5 replacements in 3...2...1...
- diearzte, on 10/26/2007, -2/+43my day is ruined. This is the worst ***** news ever.
- fkr3, on 10/29/2007, -2/+41Meanwhile back in reality, after becoming the largest private tracker on the internet the admin is *****.
- orlyfactor, on 11/04/2007, -4/+43Yeah, only the cool kids knew about OiNK! You must be lame!
- VermiciousKnid, on 11/04/2007, -1/+38Oink is far better than any of those. it is invite only and has very strict rules to make sure they have the best quality music and to keep plenty of seeds. It isn't just music, it's does everything but games and videos. awesome for apps. the community is the main reason its so good though, very helpful forums. if someone is looking for something they can't find, they make a request and someone will find it.
albums often there before they're officially released. - atloose, on 11/04/2007, -7/+44OiNK is different than the ones mentioned above specifically because you have never heard of it.
- stonedslacker, on 10/25/2007, -2/+38How will the RIAA compensate users who maintained a good ratio?? Are they gonna give us itunes credit or something atleast?
- dapbot, on 11/03/2007, -2/+34Sheizer. Seriously. If anyone is going to replace Oink, can you give me a heads up?
- wooloz, on 10/26/2007, -0/+31I couldn't agree more. It was a site that focused on sharing quality music. Not profit, not advertising, not promoting the 'next big thing'; and that's why no commercial venture can ever provide a service like it.
- delude101, on 10/26/2007, -5/+35The world is run by a bunch of *****.
- bassfanatik, on 11/03/2007, -0/+29Donations were NOT required, and you were NOT required to "prove" that you had music to share..You could download up to 5GB without having to do anything!
- blue72, on 11/04/2007, -0/+29That, and OiNK was a COMMUNITY
- jtmeyer, on 11/02/2007, -1/+28music is a part of my life.
***** loads of money is NOT a part of my life.
oink helps to reconcile those two truths. - Hellevator, on 10/23/2007, -3/+30*****... Talk about a bad way to start you day.
- iamnoskcaj, on 10/26/2007, -0/+27Yeah, I commented on that local newspaper's article, mentioning it was a poor representation of the facts, because it was NOT a pay-for-download site. That was total BS... and clearly will only serve to demonize (no pun intended) the site, it's operator, and it's community of users even further.
- random19, on 11/04/2007, -3/+29and they still won't make up for Oink...
this is terrible news - ShyGuy91284, on 11/03/2007, -4/+29That's what happens when you violate the #1 rule with things like this: You don't talk about it. It seemed like everyone who wasn't in it wanted an invite, so it was probably pretty well known to some extent.
- atloose, on 10/29/2007, -1/+25But remember guys, OiNK did not actually host any of the content. and after becomming the largest private tracker on the internet, there is now way it will all end in a single swoop like this.
LONG LIVE OiNK'S PINK PALACE! - Jamfa, on 10/26/2007, -1/+24I'm crushed... without oink so many sites are just not going to be able to function...
Then again oink is not the be all and end all, but damn, first tv-links, now oink, they really are targeting the best fish... it's a sad day. - gazzaDJ, on 10/25/2007, -1/+23I dont think it is quite the end - they backed up the site every day, and the Admins knew full well it was a matter of if they got raided, it was a matter of when.
the beauty of OiNK was the diversity of what was available. if anything, i have bought more albums since being a member, because it has introduced me to artists and even whole genres i would never have discovered otherwise.
the record industry needs to realise the real reason they are losing record sales is not because of piracy - its because nobody wants to buy the ***** chart records, because theyt suck. - atloose, on 11/03/2007, -2/+22Why the ***** is the word "donations" surrounded by quotation marks in all of those articles!? OiNK offered very few perks for those who donated. And they sure as hell did not ever make a person feel compelled to do so.
they never even sold tshirts dammit. - ayeroxor, on 11/04/2007, -0/+19Yes, yes, and all your favorite bands become posers when they get radio play. GTFO.
- d1scobiscuit, on 10/26/2007, -2/+20That oink database had everything you had ever downloaded all tracked as well. And the invitation system all linked people together....
- ninjedd, on 10/26/2007, -0/+18OiNK is dead, long live OiNK, viva la revolution!

- yellowsamredsam, on 10/26/2007, -5/+23I'm sure I will wake up from this bad dream soon.
- atloose, on 10/30/2007, -0/+17dang. and we were about to get some new features too...
- stonedslacker, on 11/04/2007, -2/+19Yes it was.
- brwright, on 11/03/2007, -2/+19Thank goodness the police force is investing so much time, money, and effort into catching these hardened criminals, who are causing so much distress to poor music industry magnates, instead of wasting time solving burglaries, murders, and other such trivial crimes.
- atloose, on 10/26/2007, -0/+16so far none of the "news" sites reporting this have bothered to act as anything more than IFPI lackies.
- ayeroxor, on 10/26/2007, -0/+16why does your friend say "dis" ? Did someone get 'dissed'?
- easycheez, on 10/25/2007, -0/+16Wow,.. just wow.. I am speechless,...... I guess I'll turn my computer off today.
- Torx, on 10/24/2007, -2/+17oh noe, im feeling really icky right now.. where will i get all my obscure dnb music from now?!!??
- wooloz, on 10/29/2007, -0/+15IFPI press release :
http://www.ifpi.org/content/section_news/20071023. ... - sfacets, on 10/23/2007, -0/+15Can they provve that he was doing anything illegal? Distributing Torrents is still legal, isn't it?
From http://www.ifpi.org/content/section_news/20071023. ... - "They were encouraged to distribute recordings in the torrent file format with other OiNK members" > do they even know what torrents are? Ignorant swine, you'd think the pigs would be more sympathetic to a site named "Oink". - orlyfactor, on 10/23/2007, -0/+15Hope your IPs weren't logged and then confiscated...
- iamnoskcaj, on 10/24/2007, -4/+19NOOOOOOOOO!
THIS IS A SAD, SAD DAY. Lately I've had a SICK feeling in my stomach, worrying something like this could happen to our beloved Oink.
I was SOOOO hoping this would turn out to be another domain name dispute or problem with their host... but NOT a TAKEDOWN. For *****'s sake, people don't PAY to download on that site. What a TERRIBLE misrepresentation of the facts. - Sarevok9, on 11/04/2007, -0/+14Man I was just starting to love Oink.... i mean, 700kb/s+ xfers on music that NOWHERE else had.
I mean in the USA how the hell am i going to find Asian Kung Fu Generation, Ayumi Hamasaki, Move- Supertune, Crystal castles 'alice practice'... etc. This is a huge loss to me, and my 12:1 ratio, i just got invites a week ago too > - Spuy767, on 11/04/2007, -2/+16There goes my 52:1 Seed:Leech ratio. ::Sniff::
- skmt, on 10/25/2007, -0/+14*****
- djh816, on 11/04/2007, -0/+14DAMMIT i was .05 away from getting invites :'(
- iamnoskcaj, on 10/23/2007, -1/+15A scary thought: What if it's users were pursued..... considering the high ratio requirements, AND the desire within the community to WELL EXCEED the "required" ratio. I've seen account there where people have downloaded 20GB and uploaded 250GB. Man.... this is really sick. My stomach hurts. This has totally ruined my day.
