- gankige, on 11/05/2009, -6/+63That's basically what Rock Band and Guitar hero do, make the songs into a "virtual karaoke act". You should have known that when you signed the contract. Idiots.
- rasone77, on 11/05/2009, -1/+34To be perfectly honest I wonder what the hell they thought was going to happen when they signed off on this. They did the same thing to Kurt Cobain less than 2 months ago and he didn't even have the opportunity to opt out! (I'm sure he would have never agreed to this in the first place). They knowingly sold out their likeness and deserve having the world see them play Hanna Montana over and over again.
- AmnesiacJack, on 11/05/2009, -14/+40Buried as inaccurate.
They are not rockers. - dsmith5237, on 11/05/2009, -4/+30Hey, No Doubt, gtf over yourselves. You're not some legendary awesome rock gods, you're No Doubt.
- homer524, on 11/05/2009, -6/+30I had no doubt that underneath it all this was not one hella good idea. If I was their lawyer I would tell her hey baby, don't speak, just rock steady. They're the ones that wanted a simple kind of life, not some comforting lie or big distraction. Meh now I have one of their songs in my head.
- VarelseSoul, on 11/05/2009, -0/+20One of the best chick led ska bands of the 90s...
- jmdwinter, on 11/05/2009, -3/+17Yes! Sue that ***** Bobby Kotick. I would pay good money to watch that son of a bitch cry.
- Hortnon, on 11/05/2009, -1/+11Do you have a copy of the contract to share with everyone?
- elliotys, on 11/05/2009, -1/+11FTA:The feature "results in an unauthorized performance by the Gwen Stefani avatar in a male voice boasting about having sex with prostitutes," the lawsuit states.
I don't see what the problem is. - dvsbastard, on 11/05/2009, -7/+17Nothing pisses me off more than a frivolous lawsuit, so on that note:
***** you No Doubt... You just lost a lot of respect... - thehans, on 11/05/2009, -1/+10That ***** is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S!
- massproductions, on 11/05/2009, -3/+12Silly No Doubt. They still think that they're relevant. Isn't that just precious...
- diskoh, on 11/05/2009, -3/+7Did you not get to the part where Activision went beyond what was in the contract?
- Gerbil_Juice, on 11/05/2009, -1/+5She's just a girl, cut her some slack.
- inactive, on 11/05/2009, -4/+8No Doubt, Rockers?
LOL! - Philbert, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4Random fact: Gwen Stefani's brother started the band as a ska act and brought in his sister to sing. Not much later he left the band to become an animator for The Simpsons.
- GeyserShitdick, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3I don't particularly care for No Doubt, but the idea that "good musician" is defined as "someone who would sing Honky Tonk Women" is pretty weird..
- FolkSong, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3To be fair, their contract would have been signed before the Kurt Cobain Controversy.
- yocouchdigga, on 11/05/2009, -1/+4Activision must be feelin' hella bad.
- jperras, on 11/05/2009, -1/+3yee haw!
- AmnesiacJack, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2Indeed when they were Ska them and Save Ferris were my two favorite bands.
- JRowe3388, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2No they wont.
- frepnog, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2""No Doubt and Activision had a contract... but Activision, which is based in Santa Monica, California, went beyond the agreement...""
look, just because No Doubt FEEL like Activision went above and beyond the contract, it doesn't mean that Activision actually DID. My guess is that Activision contracted to use their LIKENESS in the game, without exactly specifying that their likeness was ONLY to be used with No Doubt tracks. My guess is that is also the case with the Kurt Cobain "controversy". These people know how these games work. Playing dumb later just makes them look like *****. Hey, members of No Doubt - YOU ARE NOT RELEVANT TO MUSIC ANY LONGER so just enjoy the extra exposure that this grants you. - SemperFly, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2When the hell did a band hero come out? I need to get with it; I thought the latest and greatest thing was supposed to be DJ hero.
- astrotrain, on 11/05/2009, -1/+3"No Doubt" they are outta cash and need some....so what better way to raise quick cash... Sue, Sue Sue...
"Hey Gwen.. that looks like your nipple on that video game character...let's sue 'em" ~No Doubt. - TheFuzzyOne, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2Corp vs Corp*
- JustinNoland, on 11/05/2009, -3/+4Almost.
- 1ofMany, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1If record companies and the RIAA would actually PAY their bands lawsuits like this wouldn't happen...
- JRowe3388, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1Well I was at school at the time and every Firefox add-on installed gets deleted when I log out. It's crazy.
- crashingechelon, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1The game just came out this past Tuesday. The two latest and greatest things are DJ Hero and Band Hero which are followed up by the official release of GH Van Halen next month.
- kernel16, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1Activision Blizzard Inc, sounds bad. Why Blizzard!? Why!?
- astrotrain, on 11/06/2009, -0/+1Portable Firefox + Greasemonkey
- diskoh, on 11/05/2009, -2/+3RTFA.
"No Doubt and Activision had a contract... but Activision, which is based in Santa Monica, California, went beyond the agreement..."
They wrote up a specific contract, and Activision breached it. They deserve to be sued and to lose. - jperras, on 11/05/2009, -1/+2She was, or at least "they" used to be.
- Lane, on 11/05/2009, -1/+2Gah, it never ends with them.
- mark322, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1That wasn't the idea at all. That was the song in the article. The point was that she can't sing anything that isn't part of her corporate marketing scheme.
- Atario, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1Second paragraph of the story:
No Doubt and Activision had a contract allowing the company to use the band members in the game, but Activision, which is based in Santa Monica, California, went beyond the agreement by allowing gamers to use avatars of the band performing songs from other rock groups, the lawsuit states. - crescentfreshld, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1No Doubt are still a band?
- Atario, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1They rock, therefore they are rockers.
- JRowe3388, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1Ironically, there's an ad for Band Hero on this page where I am.
- JRowe3388, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1I dont see where you're getting at.
- jasvll, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1Less ironic, and more expected for keyword based advertising.
- Atario, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1Perhaps they signed before Kurt got the shaft?
- Atario, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1If No Doubt is irrelevant, and Adam Lambert is relevant, then I don't wanna be relevant.
- Atario, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1"Nothing pisses me off more than a frivolous lawsuit"
If the worst thing you have to worry about in your life is a lawsuit you don't approve of, brought by people you will never know against other people you will never know, you might want to reevaluate your priorities. - astrotrain, on 11/05/2009, -0/+1what ads... ? ;)
- Atario, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1Yeah. Therefore, large corporations should get to rape you repeatedly, and you should be made to ask for more.
- DittoMuch, on 11/05/2009, -0/+0Hey No Doubt... if you want to help your image pay Gwen to never do another solo album again. After hollarback girl i pretty much lost all respect for your lead singer.
- crashingechelon, on 11/05/2009, -2/+2After GH5 and BH I can see Activisions next big game being Lawsuit Hero. I wonder what kind of controllers that would come with and how much it would cost.
