this man is a genius - Erowid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35Notice how the torrents are hosted on thepiratebay? That just adds entertainment value to the above comment if you ask me.

- GhostFreeman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26"As a reward for stealing Year Zero..."
Trent you so crazy - BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24What can ever best the genious of "Sk8r Boi"?!?
- Arturion, on 10/12/2007, -8/+30Buried for the lame title - the second N is supposed to be backwards!
- omnivector, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I can't wait to hear remixes for Capital G -- that one seems like it has a lot of potentialfor mashing.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Haha, Trent hates his label.
He's released several of his songs on the Year Zero sites (Capital G, Me I'm Not, Survivalism, My Violent Heart, In This Twilight) ... a quarter of the CD on his own.
Yet he still broke top 10.
After the Year Zero sequel and follow up in 2008, he's out of his contract with Interscope. Then things will really get interesting. - HunterTV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12My copy arrived today, so I can download guilt-free.
*licks Trent* - memoryleek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13TRENT IS THE ***** MAN!!!!
- insanewriters, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I don't know about you guys, but I'm breathlessly waiting for Avril Lavigne to release a few tracks in GarageBand format. Because, you know, America says it's a better album and America is always right.
- logicalnoise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7except trent will releasing every track from year zero this way. just not all at once. and likely few and far between. I also like his advanced pack for people not using macs or something other than garageband or logic.
- danicast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I love him. He is my personal hero. While the whole music industry is afraid of P2P, he knows how to use it - and the album already sold 187,000 copies. You go, Trent!
- xioner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Don't like NiN's music at all, but I'm still glad to see them do this. Hopefully a lot of bands will follow.
- bulbvivid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Anybody else notice who is hosting the Garageband files?
http://movies.apple.com/movies/us/apple/nin/capital_g.zip - zeromancer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I never really got into them either. I've alway listened to Marilyn Manson and the Deftones, but never gave NIN a try. I DLed this album because of the Digg story about the CD going from black to white. It's a pretty sweet album and I think I might have to head over to a store and buy it.
Look at me. Buying music. I'm so proud. - AmishRefugee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"He's released several of his songs on the Year Zero sites (Capital G, Me I'm Not, Survivalism, My Violent Heart, In This Twilight) ... a quarter of the CD on his own."
not to mention letting you stream the whole album with no ads or anything for a while (i think it was like 2 weeks) - EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"The industry is slowly eating itself. "
You're damn right it is. When someone like Gene Simmons (30 year veteran of music and marketing) comes out and says the system is screwed, you know that it's only a matter of time.
I think Trent is doing an awesome job of 1) giving people what they want, 2) demonstrating there's money to be made by being *entertaining* on multiple fronts and, 3) making sure he's not on the USS-RIAA when it sinks. - laterthandawn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It's not a new idea, but it's incredibly well executed, well timed, and well thought out.
I think that kinda sums up NIN's history, too. Not necessarily new ideas, but a whole bunch of previous pieces put together in a brilliant way. Post modernism at its finest, perhaps.
Peter Gabriel's done this a number of times through his Real World Records (having nothing to do with the MTV disaster of the same name). - Teaboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I really want to start buying NIN stuff even though I'm not really in to them.
- diggless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2there is a song (growing up) trent remixed for Peter Gabriel. I had to search for a while on ebay to snag the single.
- lordsandwich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@zeromancer
If you enjoyed Antichrist Superstar then you've basically listened to a NIN album, since Trent was responsible for its production. You can move on to The Downward Spiral easily. - EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow. I just came in here to simply say "bring on the hordes of NIN remixes."
Good to see that someone already has a site up to store all of 'em. - drmobutu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Way more artists are gonna start doing this. Desktop digital audio production is finally going mainstream.
- boomsass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is just one of the many reasons why Trent Reznor is, by far, my favorite musician of all time. SO GOOD!
- FatherG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is the funniest goddamned thing I've heard all day. Releasing the torrents on The Pirate Bay... LAUGH!
- DrScott, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can I play the *Generic multilayer formats with Audacity to edit the songs? What should I use on a PC?
- SinzenStudios, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sweetness. Nothing but sweetness.
This is an artist taking full advantage of today's technology and the various media forms to propel himself into further greatness. - DesuKN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Me too. I OWN the music, but I still want to buy the actual, physical album.
Good job there Trent. Really good job. - laterthandawn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Really? Damn. I hadn't heard about that at all. And the import single is now $60+ everywhere I just found it. And not available for download...sweet! I'll have to keep wondering...Is it worth tracking down? I love that PG album/song, and I'd be very curious to hear what Trent did with it...but $60 is a lot for one song.
Curses. - Noize, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2after the torrents finish im gonna upload to my webserver. AKA ***** THE RIAA
- Litzau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol, good times..... i personally dont have the time, nor the desire to remix the tracks, but ive already heard some fan remixed stuff that was very well executed.
btw....has anyone heard anything about YZ being released in 5.1 like downward spiral and with teeth? - DeFex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It was fun doing a mix of "only" when he released the multitrack ver. i will see if i can do something with these as well.
- wyrmwood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The subtlety of these loops just blows my mind, I'll never listen to the songs the same way again. And apparently, according to the extra files for Capital G, I'll be deceased within 15 years. Bummer...
- maexus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm glad he finally decided to release them in a format that isn't garageband or logic. Yes, they can still be used without those programs but nice to just have plain ol clean source files to cut and slice.
- deadofnight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1His work on this album should inspire other artists to be more creative in ways to release and promote their music. The industry is slowly eating itself. Almost all the details to the websites dedicated to creating a atmosphere for the Year Zero project can be found here http://www.ninwiki.com/Main_Page. - very errie.
He has had the album streaming from his site since 4/3/07. What a good guy, thanks Trent. - db74, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Have you noticed on the lead vocal tracks (listen to them solo) if you listen closely you can here the song in the background. Is that the microphone picking up Trents headphones? Anyways, this is wicked and so is the humor on nin.com . . . as a reward for stealing blah blah . . . love it.
Oh BTW I bought the album, it's great, you'll need to listen to it a few times to really absorb it. Release Capital G as a single already!!!! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2well considering the beat from Capital G was a Michael Jacskon beat ( The way you make me feel )... there should be some pretty hilarious mixes.
- joeconway, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2You downloaded an album because of something the cd does?
- Noize, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2anyone seen that the torrent server is on the pirate bay :D wooooo
- Tordenflesk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Wav?
- erinvsyou, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Is anyone paying attention to NIN's whole 'alternate reality game' that Trent started in February?
- Xabora, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1*faints*
This is too good to be true. XD
http://www.theninhotline.net/meatpers/html/mp000816.htm - billybates, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1It said that for survivalism that you needed a mac?? The audio files are .aiff which will work fine with Nuendo and Cubase.
- DjOverEZ, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4What people don't know is that artists have been releasing their individual song tracks for years on acidplanet.com. This is nothing new. I suggest everyone to check it out.
- dspiral, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4Trent continues to buck the trend
- apcfreak, on 10/12/2007, -17/+2I hope you are being sarcastic...
- camzor, on 10/12/2007, -35/+4It's a reward for stealing the album! I've never felt so awesome for being a criminal in my life.
