- sillygato, on 09/25/2008, -8/+52People still use myspace?
- tiffanyjm, on 09/25/2008, -4/+39MySpace sucks. This will probably be the slowest music service ever, and have a billion ads everywhere.
- muslax27, on 09/26/2008, -2/+24LOL
- muslax27, on 09/26/2008, -3/+21LOL
- digitul, on 09/26/2008, -0/+16yes. i know its cool to be against anything popular but plenty of people still use it. when my band performs and someone asks if we have a myspace, i'm not going to reply with "people still use myspace?! *snort*"
- BeShirtHappy, on 09/25/2008, -0/+15They say they want to keep users on their site as long as possible... this may help (regardless of what I personally think of myspace) since a lot of MySpace users are bands or users checking out the music.
- granolajoe, on 09/25/2008, -2/+15Pssst...This isn't Stumbleupon
- MrSkills, on 09/25/2008, -1/+13Can bands who have uploaded their own songs sell through this, or is it only labels?
- upick, on 09/26/2008, -3/+15That's a cool idea for MySpace, but it still doesn't make it annoying when you visit a profile, and you hear some ***** music pumping in the background... That's gotta stop!
- slash1890, on 09/26/2008, -1/+11Don't criticize him, he's a social expert.
- ProfChaosOmega, on 09/26/2008, -0/+9Wow, the editor of this article is an idiot. This in no way is supposed to be a competition between myspace and itunes.
- MechanicalZack, on 09/25/2008, -0/+8Wasn't there already a way to sell your music through MySpace?
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+7But if he doesn't mention iTunes, how will he get page views?
- protonone, on 09/26/2008, -1/+8I wish people would stop saying iPod killer, or that they're taking on iTunes. Apple is so far ahead of the competition that it is not even funny. These companies are releasing music services of their own, nothing more.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+7What the *****?
- dudefaceguyman, on 09/26/2008, -0/+6Jebus. Some of you Myspace bashers are so gosh dern' retarded.
YOU CAN TURN THAT OFF!
There's a setting in your profile where you can disable any other profile from autostarting music when you're logged in. It's THAT SIMPLE! It's not even a new thing.
Look, Myspace isn't perfect. But you guys are no better then those Mac elitists who claim Vista sucks merely because of the cancel or allow 'feature'. Which you can turn off as well. FIND SOME NEW MATERIAL JACKASS
I despise all of you ignorant sheep so much, the sheer hatred that's burning inside me is giving the person next to me in my college computer lab heartburn.
NICE JOB ***** - inactive, on 09/26/2008, -5/+11Purchasing music? HA!
- bixby1, on 09/25/2008, -0/+6It's complicated and so far the bands MIGHT be getting screwed with their pants on.
- drbonemonkey, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5Good luck myspace... you are gunna need it.
- CalcProgrammer1, on 09/26/2008, -1/+5Why digg down? It's the equivalent of your average MySpace profile. Nothing new here.
- KicksG, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4I think it's only the big record companies who will be making the serious money on this.. big surprise
- pldgnoauthority, on 09/26/2008, -1/+5thanks myspace for all the free stream-caught songs *thumbs up*
- DigSomeMore, on 09/26/2008, -1/+5Great idea on myspace moving towards ticket sales, wouldn't that be something...very interesting article.
- MScrip, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4> "Can bands who have uploaded their own songs sell through this, or is it only labels?"
If I were in a small band, I'd sell stuff off our own website. ***** MySpace. - P1um, on 09/26/2008, -2/+6God I hate Myspace
- krahzee, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4Quote from me:
Sarah's WRONG. Myspace is a s good a place as any to promote a band, or use to promote specific dates that band is playing, which is where the real money is for the artist anyway. Since when is free advertising bad? I thought the goal was to sell out shows?
As far as paying for their marketing when you buy music, you do. But without this revenue, how would the label promote the next artist, or for that matter without a label to go to how would the artists get noticed?
Not every artist builds up some huge underground movement before signing. Most simply do not have the resources to start their own careers without signing
Hell even Trent is only TRENT because of a label. Without the promotion work of his label early in his career, he could not have afforded to produce videos, etc...... Same for the guys in Radiohead.
Does this mean labels conduct themselves fairly, no. That said to take the attitude of dear ol' Sarah is pretty naive too. - gooberguy, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4i understood it
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+4The new player really sucks balls; I've never been more frustrated in my life. All I want to do is upload one of my songs I recorded yesterday, when everything was fine, but now nothing works. This happens everytime Myspace implements a "great" new feature.
- MindTrigger, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3I stopped buying music at iTunes when Amazon MP3 downloads came out.
- mooboy322, on 09/26/2008, -1/+4they get sold through amazons music service
- bochero, on 09/26/2008, -1/+4Hey! Hey! You! You! This song is brought to you by Palm Olive!
- RMoore08, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3Will there be pedophiles on this too?
- bassman12593, on 09/26/2008, -1/+4it seems like everyone has a music service these days
- m00n1, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3I'd rather get Coldplay elsewhere, rather than go to MySpace and get
++++~~~~=====****C01DP1AY****=====~~~~++++
(btw, was never a fan but their new CD is really good). - inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3LOL...thought the same thing.
- kangy3213, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3itunes still wins, as long as myspace doesn't have a actual service or anything downloadable as far as a program... itunes wins
- MrSkills, on 09/25/2008, -1/+4So it's just another store... but this one doesn't let independent bands in...
- smackydoodle, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2Yeah I don't really see how MySpace is taking on iTunes from this because they aren't directly selling the music, you buy it from Amazon. I could do that already if I wanted. If Amazon was a new service maybe but it's not. Also the amount of ads that will be on this service is going to be ridiculous. Chances are I'll see a new band or song I like, launch iTunes, and purchase it. (Yes some people still purchase the music they listen to.)
Sites like Pandora and Last.FM are my ways to go. - mechfluff, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2http://www.file2hd.com/
- joshcxa, on 09/26/2008, -1/+3It's cool to hate myspace
- douglasr007, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2or it had sucky music...
- tomato1324, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2looks pretty good....until you remember its still myspace.
- douglasr007, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2Too bad I don't view MySpace...or iTunes.
- homesickalien, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2I'm surprised they didn't do this ages ago. I'm sure they'll screw this up too. It's only a mattter of time before every album cover is some seizure inducing animated gif.
