- Nosferotu, on 01/28/2009, -2/+42Wasn't Myspace originally a Myspace-like social site for bands?
I hate Myspace. - RMoore08, on 01/28/2009, -0/+37Thanks RIAA, screwed another thing over for us. Thanks. I really appreciate it.
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -0/+12I found a song I liked on there, and quickly downloaded it from a torrent.
Thanks for the new search engine RIAA. - Atertract, on 01/28/2009, -0/+10If you miss the old Muxtape, 8tracks is a comparable substitute.
I for one am going to be supporting Muxtape's new service, because it stands a chance at helping to reinvent the standard business model for bands, and in doing so could nibble away at the RIAA. You can't pay for that kind of irony. - vpshockwave, on 01/28/2009, -0/+9I say riot.
- IvenomI, on 01/28/2009, -8/+16Oh they already have a site like that. It's called MySpace.
- TheNik, on 01/28/2009, -0/+8The bands that use PureVolume are generally appealing only to a certain audience, specifically the "scene," well, scene. I'm not trying to be insulting, but those bands are usually *metal or *core and their primary audience can also be found on MySpace (probably in larger numbers).
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -1/+8Another great idea ruined by the corpses at the helm of the music industry. Glad to see Muxtape still exists in some fashion, but ***** to see that they had to bend over and follow RIAA orders.
***** the RIAA - michif72, on 01/28/2009, -1/+6If I want to quickly listen to some artist's music i really prefer this minimalist approach. I don't need those overloaded myspace-pages with flashy videos and funny gifs.
- kingtobo, on 01/28/2009, -0/+5***** THE RIAA!
- Smokeydabear, on 01/28/2009, -1/+6I have discovered a lot of bands through Amazon.com, which sometimes releases free songs from some bands. I downloaded Coconut Record's new album "Davy" (created by actor Jason Swartchzmanfdfd) just because I liked the free song "Microphone." If I had an up and coming band, I would totally do that. But I don't.
- BonJoevi, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4Someone should Ra Ra Riaat
- BonJoevi, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4You say potato...
- bobbymarko, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4"as for muxtape, i see no search bar, or anyway to browse for anything not on the front page. fix this or it's useless."
Way to read their description in which it says that there are only 12 bands for the time being . . . all of their content IS on the front page.
And for all of you hating on the UI, you're right. All it needs is some gradients and reflections. Then it'd be unstoppable. - rossnyc, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3http://8tracks.com FTW!
- Smuikas, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3Better site for serious musicians:
http://indabamusic.com
Includes in-browser remixing and collaboration.. commenting on specific points in a track's timeline, etc. Really freakin' cool. - rswelling, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3The original was such a great idea, and execution. It was fun and even an promotional tool for artists as they linked the songs for purchase! It was not a download site, and there was no reason for them to be shut down. Another example of the RIAA ***** themselves, musicians they profess to represent, and all of us who love discovering new music. Forge on Muxtape, you are pioneers and we salute you.
- edjenkins234, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3well your in for some bad news, the riaa isn't a for profit company, its a lobbying group that gets it's funds from the major record labels who would rather us all say "***** the RIAA!!!!" as opposed to "***** Sony, dreamworks, capitol, universal records!!!"
- Smokeydabear, on 01/28/2009, -1/+3Eat a dick.
- BonJoevi, on 01/28/2009, -1/+3That's what I'm saying, someone should riaat!
- BonJoevi, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2and never will.
- divisional, on 01/28/2009, -1/+3Hmmm. I really like it. Minimal. No BS. Good stuff.
- Kinsbane, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2Gonna definitely put my band's stuff on the new Muxtape soon as I am able. We need exposure, and a singer!
- bjs3171, on 01/28/2009, -1/+3funny, when Myspace first started getting popular in the mainstream, I kept wondering why all these people had personal profiles on "that site i go to for music"
as for muxtape, i see no search bar, or anyway to browse for anything not on the front page. fix this or it's useless. - AquaOSX, on 01/29/2009, -0/+2Not enough JavaScript glitter to be MySpace-like
- 4NDr01D, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2yeah the RIAA started getting pissed
when people actually started enjoying music - EricAnderton, on 01/29/2009, -0/+1Friends don't let friends use myspace.
- bjs3171, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1i used to go to both sites whenever I learned of a new band. i probably still would if i had time.
- serif69, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1Davy is much better than Nighttiming, IMO, though the latter is definitely worth getting if you haven't already.
- inactive, on 01/31/2009, -0/+1That is true, which is why I make it a point not to buy anything from any of those companies either until they fix their watchdogs
- foltaggio, on 01/29/2009, -0/+1***** THE RIAA!
- 4NDr01D, on 01/28/2009, -1/+2great
do we really need another place for ***** bands to go undiscovered ?
old muxtape RIP - MisterFurious, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1A mux tape.....he made a mux tape....
- elhaf, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1I don't think it was anything that sophisticated. Just a place to post and retrieve playlists. Which it seems would still be legal as long as you don't include the music itself; just links to it.
- edjenkins234, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1I really think that we need a massive grassroots public information campaign of where the RIAA gets it's funding, and document all the times they have tried to strongarm their fanstasy-verson of the law both on the pussified us congress and the defenseless music listening public.
In this recession when the labels were already hurting I bet a few labels would think twice about funding this group if the hate was directed at the label and not their hate-magnet they set up called the RIAA.
I buy records and cds of albums i like but i always make sure to check it isn't on an RIAA label, if half of the music buying public did this i think we would see some more change we can believe in. - foucaultsvac, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1Meh. Artists sign a contract. It's their fault, too.
- mistergoomba, on 01/28/2009, -1/+2They did say MySpace-like
- stelman1, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1This seems good. I'll upload my band there.
- WafflePirate, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1Way better site. And it has a sexy UI as well.
- clairevo, on 01/28/2009, -1/+1I love that Apes and Androids is featured as an artist. Otherwise, meh.
- BevansDesign, on 01/28/2009, -2/+2Yea, this is just what the world needs: another social networking site for bands. Every chump with a CS degree has made their own social networking site for bands.
- TheNik, on 01/28/2009, -1/+1Couldn't they separate artist and remixer profiles? Artists can upload their music they want people to remix, simultaneously giving permission to the remixers, and the remixers can then download those files and do that. The remixers could also upload their remixes for public download and tag the songs used in the mix. It could be cool. The remixes could be rated by all of the other users and the best ones appear on the respective original artist pages.
- killahwhale, on 01/28/2009, -1/+1booooo!
- hypografik, on 01/28/2009, -2/+2I understand the author(s) wants to keep Muxtape alive but... this new site just can't compete will the hard competitions there is already (especialy on the UI side). The new VIRB is about to be released too... Ah well, good luck Muxtape. Wishing you the best (but will *really* miss the original muxtape).
- rossnyc, on 01/28/2009, -1/+1http://8tracks.com FTW!
- Atertract, on 01/29/2009, -1/+1Muxtape actually decided not to follow RIAA orders, choosing instead to reinvent itself as something the RIAA couldn't get its filthy, deformed claws into. I miss the old Muxtape, but I look forward to the death of the RIAA even more.
***** the RIAA with a cassette tape wrapped in bacon and let a dog chew it out. -
