- Br3ach, on 09/26/2008, -0/+27Hopefully Favtape endures, why does the RIAA hate music fans?
Oh right, because they are CLUELESS greedy bastards - foxingworth, on 09/26/2008, -0/+11And for those with their own web servers:

An open source muxtape clone - GammaStream, on 09/26/2008, -2/+9Just read Justin Ouellette story about his interaction with the major labels and the RIAA @ http://muxtape.com and I now have an immense amount of respect for someone I have never meet. Best of luck mate.
- Zenham, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5You're being redundant masaks, Wootfaced *already* said ***** THE RIAA.

- pigfister, on 09/26/2008, -2/+7Why did MuxTape get closed down? CORPORATE GREED with the backing of the US congress.
couldn't webcasters bypass all RIAA affiliated music to avoid extortionate royalty rates, well NO because the Gatekeepers don't want you to listen to any Indie music as it diverts revenue away from them!
As we had with the Payola deals (RIAA pay to only play their music on the radio)
Now we have this, which makes it impossible for any Indie artist to succeed without signing their soul over to the Gatekeepers

fta: "With the furor over the impending rate hike for Internet radio stations, wouldn't a good solution be for streaming internet stations to simply not play RIAA-affiliated labels' music and focus on independent artists? Sounds good, except that the RIAA's affiliate organization SoundExchange claims it has the right to collect royalties for any artist, no matter if they have signed with an RIAA label or not. 'SoundExchange (the RIAA) considers any digital performance of a song as falling under their compulsory license. If any artist records a song, SoundExchange has the right to collect royalties for its performance on Internet radio. Artists can offer to download their music for free, but they cannot offer their songs to Internet radio for free ... So how it works is that SoundExchange collects money through compulsory royalties from Webcasters and holds onto the money. If a label or artist wants their share of the money, they must become a member of SoundExchange and pay a fee to collect their royalties.'"

- eternalsnows, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2And people expect Favtape to last? It allows users to listen to entire tracks for free. If the site already has a deal with artists and labels, then fine, but somehow I doubt that's the case. Also, gotta love the (c) 2008 Freestyle Labs at the bottom of every page. I mean, why not copyright something the sole purpose of which is to infringe on other's copyrights?
- zombiedepot, on 09/26/2008, -1/+3That's why you should read the article.
- memeshift, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1I feel that man. Best of luck Justin! You are a brave man. Thank you for making such a dope service.
- Albumen, on 09/26/2008, -3/+4***** A DUCK!
- funkytaco, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1You guys can try my service as well http://www.audiodisco.com
It's a music blog aggregator, with music and videos from blogs, youtube, and MTV. I disabled the mixtape for now but it will be back once registration is back open (check back in 2 weeks).
I do like favtape (listened to trapped in the closet chapters 1-19 last week on there - haha), but their seeqpod results can be wrong on some tracks. I hope they perfect it. - modelchick8806, on 09/26/2008, -2/+3Never even heard of either. I feel left out. :(
- memeshift, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1just installed in less than 5 minutes. dead simple and super cool. Thanks foxingworth!
- StrangeInt, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Mixwit is quite nice, and I appreciate the dedication to the "mixtape" ethos -- instead of creating a readily skippable iTunes-style playlist, you're actually making a linear "tape" (represented by a customizable vintage audiocassette graphic) that is meant to be listened to all the way through to the end.
- rossnyc, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2http://8tracks.com is a nice alternative as well.
- daharris, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1niceeee, looks better than muxtape
- zero1two, on 09/26/2008, -1/+1This is great. Love it!
- Pixelante, on 09/26/2008, -0/+0If you call RIAA a "duck", it might be possible that Dick Cheney will shoot it.
- ovangle, on 09/26/2008, -1/+1it was bound to happen. great ideas don't go away, they just migrate away from the law. I was expecting opentape to fill the gap (and it will probably have a part to play) but this is nice too and would be even better if they incorporated an opentape aggregator somewhere so that people can host their own tape on their blog etc. and have it accessible by other via favtape.
- coachg58, on 02/27/2009, -0/+0http://www.lastvid.com, very similar site but youtube videos are shown for each song.
- SickBoy, on 09/26/2008, -1/+1I found Muxtape frustrating. I got the concept - randomly stumble through others' mixed 'tapes' - but I didn't often find music I liked or that suited my mood.
- ppg24, on 01/15/2009, -0/+0Wow
http://www.flashgameplay.com/ - bingebingebinge, on 09/29/2008, -0/+0Maybe a bit too much going on on the front page but I really like the way it's using the seeqpod api to find stuff that's theorietically aleady on the 'net so that they can side step the RIAA and others. Oldschool favtape building as I type!
- jazzybest, on 09/27/2008, -0/+0RIAA is an outdated dinosaur.
- roflcat, on 09/27/2008, -0/+0Are you that guy who saw every other article on Digg and thought to himself that he has a ***** clue about it all?
- Nintendesert, on 09/26/2008, -5/+2First time in a long time on Digg I saw an article and didn't have a clue as to what the ***** it was even remotely about.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -5/+1favetape is like some horrible website abortion
- vango, on 09/26/2008, -9/+3this is awesome!
