- revjustin2, on 05/01/2008, -0/+18I call ***** on your calling *****.
- oldhick, on 05/01/2008, -0/+17Ah... Where are all those folks claiming that downloading tracks for free takes money out of the artists pockets???
I'll reiterate my point for the millionth time using a quote from the article... " I'm from a punk rock band, it's all about getting your music out any way you can - you don't make money from the record, the record companies make the money from the record. " - raublekick, on 05/01/2008, -1/+9Frenzal Rhomb as been around for a pretty long time, they are basically Australia's NOFX. These guys aren't a chart-topping pop act, they're a hard working punk act that's been around for 17 years. Given the history and views of the band through their songs, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt before calling ***** and calling him a rich whiner.
- toppgun, on 05/01/2008, -1/+8Oh noes, a non-rich person complaining about rich people complaining about money! I've never seen this before!
- MrRad, on 05/01/2008, -0/+7It's like a Möbius strip.
- m4csrgh3yk3v, on 05/01/2008, -0/+6The most important thing about this story is the fact that the content industry is making propaganda films to be played in schools.
I wonder how people would react to the burger, tobacco or oil industries submitting propaganda to schools?
***** ARIA! - Voightkampff, on 05/01/2008, -0/+5http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EJkJi_yHHE
This has been around for a while, but it's fantastic nonetheless. It's a radio interview where Jay, from the same band as the guy in the article, lays a massive smackdown on a couple of ***** radio hosts. Jay now has his own radio show, and the idiots he's talking to are now hosting Big Brother. - Th3Hamburgler, on 05/01/2008, -3/+8...Australian not English!
- slvrbullet87, on 05/01/2008, -16/+19I call *****, this guy wanted to do the video, either for the money or because he doesnt like piracy. Now he is just trying to save face with his fans.
- hazer, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3I know Lindsay, and I don't believe for a second that he would be supporting an anti-piracy video. It's not his, nor his bands style. Listen to their songs, or even read their lyrics, and then tell me that it's a band that are in it for money or fame!
- t3rmv3locity, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3***** off you RIAA exec.
- hazer, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3Even worse, slimy labels are now demanding part of the bands touring and merch income!
The labels are dying. Thank ***** for that. - SSUK, on 05/01/2008, -2/+5This is McDougall, he features in anti-piracy videos and then whines about it later. Harden the ***** up, McDougall!
(Although I don't like to explain jokes, I feel this will go over everyone's head so: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unkIVvjZc9Y ) - mediaphile, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3Trust me, he doesn't need any free advertising. The MIPI came to him specifically because people know who he and his band are.
- mediaphile, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2Wow, they really were a couple of *****. It's ironic that the guy from the punk band is more polite and composed than the interviewers. He sounds like a cool guy, hope he doesn't turn into the ***** those two hosts did.
- mediaphile, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2Gotta love that Ronnie Johns. And it's not a bad impersonation, either.
- zarvensha, on 05/03/2008, -0/+2This is the Doctor from Frenzal Rhomb who does mornings on Triple J in Oz who wouldn't do this ***** Werewolf boy, so shut up with your quick nooblet opinions
- artfiend77, on 05/01/2008, -7/+9"Here mate, take this money and tell the viewers how it's bad to pirate music."
"But, but, I'm not against music piracy! It actually helped my band!"
"oh, did we say pirating is bad? We meant read this anti piracy speech to ENCOURAGE people to pirate and help bands just like you!"
"Oh, ok mate! Cheerio!" - mediaphile, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1MIPI exec, maybe.
- woody313, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1You have no ***** idea, *****.
- PeppermintPig, on 05/01/2008, -2/+3Heindl never articulates why McDougall is mistaken, just says that he is. That's not even a defense. I think McDougall has a legitimate case here.
Why are they sending this video to all high schools in Australia? Just to entertain the students and tell them about getting into the music industry? That's a real stretch. This stinks of *****. - boombye, on 05/01/2008, -1/+2Plus all the real money they get comes from doing live shows, and those could do very well, like sold out arenas or something. They get up there on stage because that's how they're making the real money, the record companies keep everything made on a CD to themselves basically. You get like a 10% cut or something, it's a horrible industry and many examples of this can be found in plenty of movies about musicians.
- mikeramone, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1dugg for frenzal rhomb being on digg
- DestroyFascism, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1I wouldn't pirate your stuff, honest!
I have 2 Cold Chisel records. Can't afford anything else. (Saving for creative suit or a new car, they cost the same if you get a second hand car)
signed.
Unpaid web designer. - naysayer1, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1Yeah because Frenzal Rhomb totally need advertising. I think everyone in Australia know who they are! He's on the radio every morning for **** sake! FAIL
- Djjcj, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1At least we know that Russel Crowes bands a ***** pile of *****!
- woody313, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1"always spruking the radio station, the magazine, JTV and all that"
Yeah mate that is strange, its not like thats his job or anything.... - naysayer1, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1wha???
- revjustin2, on 05/01/2008, -2/+2I can smell you from over here. Move over, will you?
- naysayer1, on 05/02/2008, -0/+0Fair enough, but have you heard The Doctor on Triple J. He sounds pretty corporate lately... always spruking the radio station, the magazine, JTV and all that. But I too will give him the benefit of the doubt... mostly because Frenzal Rhomb are awesome and I love what he and Jay did to Kyle and Jackie O:)
- kipmartin, on 05/01/2008, -2/+2i give him the benefit of the doubt because the anti-piracy folks are SO evil. any musician at this level would be in favor of file sharing as he stands to gain everything and lose nothing by having his fan base increased. sure, we musicians will do a lot of crazy stuff for money but i just dont believe this guy knew what he was doing--most musicians dont when it comes to signing documents.
then again, he could be a wedding musician. - AlZuben, on 05/01/2008, -0/+0Music4Morlocks! Just say no to art tyranny!
- Skidmark66, on 05/04/2008, -1/+1mom !, someone on the internet called me an ***** !!
- naysayer1, on 05/02/2008, -1/+0Never heard an Australian say Cheerio and I live there!
- obehere, on 05/02/2008, -3/+1No chance of my opinion of him lowering. He's a self absorbed wanker and the reason I don't listen to JJJ in the mornings anymore.
- kl78229, on 05/01/2008, -3/+1Who cares about this guy? The Veronicas are super hot... that's the real story!
- 40MS, on 05/01/2008, -2/+0In 2004 his music was removed from the biggest commercial radio network in Australia, after a fight with radio DJs (who are also the hosts of Australian big brother.) Hmmm....
- pr0nstarr, on 05/01/2008, -8/+3I have terrible flatulence.
- Skidmark66, on 05/01/2008, -7/+1the band this dick was in were so *****, they called emselfs punk, but they were about as punk as fred flinstone, now he works for this nazi australian national radio station called JJJ who only play shoegazer pop. more lars from metallica MONEY GOOD !!, you can't save your face and your ass at the same time i'm afraid . .
- MoistVonLipwig, on 05/01/2008, -7/+1Read the article, couldn't find any artist in it, only a guy trying to get some free advertising for a mediocre band
- NucleaRR, on 05/01/2008, -8/+2Buried! Lame.
