- rob3purdue, on 11/02/2007, -1/+26I would have never believed it if I didn't see it here! Corporations trying to rip people off?! Well, I never!
- rhartman, on 11/06/2007, -0/+22This would be cool if Ozzy bit the head off the turkey as part of the dinner preparations.
- minnymoo, on 11/05/2007, -2/+21"a little retarded?"
- WasabiBomb, on 10/30/2007, -0/+14So.... what's to prevent you from just spamming someone else's number in that "contest", and thereby racking up their phone bill?
Anyone got the personal number for the head of the RIAA? Just askin'. - inactive, on 11/05/2007, -2/+14A little Retarded? - Have you seen American Idol?
- nekochan, on 11/05/2007, -1/+8"starting to"?
- FloppyLlamaDigg, on 10/29/2007, -0/+7I hope he says grace.
Deaa go tan fo ths trrk and amn. - NonLeftistDiggr, on 10/30/2007, -1/+7a little retarded? that's funny seeing how the deal involves Ozzy Osborne, who has basically treated his body so bad that he is literally mentally retarded.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5And Mr. Bean could help him cook it.
- hiPpymIck, on 10/29/2007, -0/+5d'you have TV phone ins for prizes in US
in UK theyre on a lot of game shows eg
enter a draw for £50,000 prize: cost £1 ..100,000+ ppl enter = £100,000+ ..TV co makes £50,000+ profit
also Millionaire.. ~£1 to apply to play..millions enter
..apparently theyve made more from phone in applications than given in prize money
and yeah - you only realize how much youve spent when you get the phone bill - vypergts, on 10/29/2007, -0/+5As someone who has taken a few marketing classes, I can tell you that ALL contests are promotions intended to make money. This one just does it up front in addition to promoting whatever solow.com is selling. Do you really think that "playing" monopoly at mcdonald's is all about giving away prizes? Even the lottery is about making money for somebody...
- DivisibleByZero, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5My limited understanding of the law is that they're not allowed to charge a toll to enter those things, because then it would be considered gambling. "Standard text messaging rates apply", however. Basically means you're paying the phone company, not Deal or No Deal. Then the phone company pays Deal or No Deal........
- NeoCortex, on 10/29/2007, -0/+4I believe you can text them at 666.
- InuX, on 10/29/2007, -0/+4This happened with Zakk Wylde and the Guitars. Lots of people though they were getting a guitar but were screwed.
- pilot3033, on 10/29/2007, -0/+4starting to?!
- FishHammer, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3the cell companies probably sponsored it
- mwalker05, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3after you text these contests they sell your cell phone number to marketers who then send spam texts to you
- DivisibleByZero, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3They probably send you a confirmation message to the phone?
Reminds me of the scam I saw a while back where people would walk up to somebody on the street with a story about how they have to contact their friend ASAP but left their phone at home... call up one of those ringtone subscription scams instead. Brilliant I say. - residentskitz, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3"and all you do is put your cell phone number in with your bid."
so if i enter in somebody elses cell phone number that i dont like, i can get them charged a dollar every time?
muahaha...
but really, how can that be legal? - freezeout, on 10/31/2007, -2/+5proving once again that the biggest thieves in the game work for the music industry
- superyounan1, on 11/05/2007, -1/+3take out "starting to get a little" from the title
- Richiedude, on 10/29/2007, -2/+4Is this contest - and others like it - that use cell phone texting and charges written in fine hidden print REALLY contests or just scams to make a quick buck? Or is it shrewd business marketing?
- chinolofus, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2whats the story? i havent heard about it. link anyone?
- DivisibleByZero, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2Not really anything new. Didn't MTV do a "get your house trashed by Anthrax" contest back in the 80s?
I know for sure that they did a fake "my dinner with Anthrax" for an episode of Married With Children. That was pretty funny... - sgtpppr, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2Do what?
- usefuljenkins, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2It's both. They allow people with superficial needs to be able to "win" something thats really quite lame, while at the same time, advertising and making money for themselves.
- thedailyswarm, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1check this contest - daft punk helmets...
http://digg.com/music/Oh_its_on_Go_Daft_Punk_for_H ...
digg it - turrican, on 10/29/2007, -0/+11. Get cheap hosting somewhere and buy a couple 'cheap' late-night tv ads for "daily text jokes".
2. Send out daily horoscopes/jokes/whatever.
3. Profit! - Superflks, on 11/05/2007, -2/+3I think we can all tell by this guy's description that he is "a lot retarded."
- chinolofus, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1yeah but that was awesome. anthrax trashed the ***** house!
- Richiedude, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1shameless plug time? ok - Win Guitar Hero 3 from Seether:
http://www.thedailyrock.com/2007/10/31/win-guitar- ... - MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1They also get sponsors, whose products they promote. Usually in the name of the contest or and of the contest media. Or something like that.
They don't just offer a million dollar prize and hope some people actually notice there's a contest. The know ahead of time they're going to at least break even. - bjornski, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1That's capitalism for you.
- inactive, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1Spammer...
- bacon_skoda, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1back in the 80s, people would change your home phone's long distance company with a call.
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -1/+2Yeah..like a 13 year old kid...borning in 1994...wants to meet Ozzy.
The writer of this is like all the 30-something Hollywood movie writers who don't realize that when they write movies with teens and 20 something, that they can't make all the characters do the things they did as kids. So don't fill the movie up with songs from Aha or Toto. And after survivng being on a place with snakes, don't ask a 10 year old kid if the snake that he drew is like the ones from Indiana Jones. The kid was born over 6 years after the LAST Indiana Jones movie, and over 15 years since Indy last battled cobras. - chinolofus, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1throw in chris elliot and his little hand and i am there!
- bacon_skoda, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1at&t, the one you love.
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -1/+1Just go find some original music at http://www.publishmymusic.com. It's free!
- ajchavar, on 10/29/2007, -2/+2wow. i'm so ***** surprised its going to cost you money to try and win something. all the times i've won things people just came up to me and gave them to me, no effort involved.
what happened to you america, you used to be cool? it used to be about the music man. - inactive, on 11/05/2007, -6/+6Wow Ozzy..like hes something so awsome. Hes a has been. His name will end with him, cause his kids are ***** tards.
- NoDitchDigging, on 10/29/2007, -1/+1Not much difference between this and the migraine-inducing flashy pop-up ads that infest the Net. Too bad people keep clicking them...
Adblock Plus rocks. - FredSpeaking, on 11/05/2007, -1/+1No *****?
- riotgrl, on 10/30/2007, -0/+0I hardly think so, these guys are part of the MMA association and they would get kicked off carrier support through Sprint , TMobile, AT&T, etc if they sold your name. These guys are legit, I've checked into it.
- stgeorge, on 10/30/2007, -0/+0Don't be a moron, there are millions of kids who've seen Indiana Jones. There's something called DVD you know. Go look it up.
- riotgrl, on 10/30/2007, -0/+0The first 3 bids are free.
- Richiedude, on 11/05/2007, -3/+3"very retarded" then? lol
- chinolofus, on 11/05/2007, -1/+1what do those bands have to do with anything?
- mwalker05, on 10/29/2007, -2/+2iron maiden, lynard skynard, led zepplin, jimmy hendrix, alice in chains, guns n roses, metallica, nirvana. yea if theres one thing we can learn about rock musicians, its that there music is no longer popular after their bands or themselves die. but at least the name TwoLOUD will be remembered in history forever...
