- shutaro, on 06/20/2009, -9/+659***** THE RIAA!!!
- bbliss17, on 06/20/2009, -7/+376I have a new respect for Moby.
- DouglasQ, on 06/20/2009, -7/+286I never understood Moby hatred. I'm not a fan of his music, but he's always seemed like a nice guy to me.
- EMFK, on 06/20/2009, -3/+280On this, Moby and I agree.
- buddamus, on 06/20/2009, -4/+265The RIAA works out how much a song is worth like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdjnD4AKVxw - FirstOne1, on 06/20/2009, -2/+244because those 24 songs were totally worth $80,000 each.
- earthceltic, on 06/20/2009, -2/+171We need a pirate party in the US. I would gladly pay membership fees for lobbyist power instead of relying on individual cases to overthrow these bastards.
- liah, on 06/20/2009, -3/+153I liked Moby before.
Now I like him even more.
Why does everyone hate Moby? :*( - silentsnake09, on 06/20/2009, -21/+160The RIAA are modern day Nazi's
- Vindicoth, on 06/20/2009, -12/+139I don't really care for moby but I'm gonna go download his entire discrography off the pirate bay to show my support of him now!
- arbulus, on 06/20/2009, -4/+109A lot of people have an irrational hatred of vegans.
- lordmike, on 06/20/2009, -2/+86The RIAA has been, and always will be, an illegal trust... but, instead of being disbanded, the organization almost operates as a fourth branch fo government.... They get whatever they want from congress, no matter who's in charge. The republicans like them for being big business, the Democrats think that they protect the "artists"... I don't see how their grapplehold on power will be released anytime soon...
- AutomaticTLC, on 06/20/2009, -1/+80I blame Eminem.
- DifferentAngle, on 06/20/2009, -1/+70Seeding after you download would definitely be support...
- zeebo, on 06/20/2009, -0/+67Unfortunately without proportional representation minor parties have virtually no chance to get anywhere.
- inactive, on 06/20/2009, -0/+66Lady spills coffee on her lap from a drive through at mcdonalds. Is awarded 2 million by jury.
Judge thinks this is insane and reduces the amount to a quarter of that.
Lady downloads 24 songs off Kazaa, and a jury sees fit to fine her 2 million dollars
I believe I'll be waiting to write the fourth sentence of this comment for quite a while. - Antiman1337, on 06/20/2009, -2/+58What is a "real musicin"?
- Ragzouken, on 06/20/2009, -2/+57Got caught filesharing. Now I know what the Jews felt like.
- thcobbs, on 06/20/2009, -8/+61Be honest... the level of respect for Moby could only go up.
- Travelsonic, on 06/20/2009, -0/+52"24 songs at $1.00 each would need to be distributed to approximately 3300 people."
Unfortunately none of the money from any of their settlements will go to the artists they claim to be fighting for. - Tubal22, on 06/20/2009, -0/+51It would be interesting to see a list of artists that support the RIAA.
- avasol, on 06/20/2009, -0/+50What are you talking about? Ok maybe a bit high, but you know, you get a cover, and sometimes lyrics, as well as a plastic casing for your $0.10 production value CD. Surely that's worth at least $79,000?
- NavS, on 06/20/2009, -0/+48In an extreme way.
- drmsux, on 06/20/2009, -0/+45It's $80k _each_
80k people per song, not 3300
24*8E+4 ~ 2 million songs to upload to have same cost as the fine
If one song is, say, 4MB, then she needs to upload 8 TERABYTES of music.
Upload is generally slower than download, at 1Mbit upload that would take (8 terabytes / (1 megabit/s)) = more than 2 years of uploading! - Travelsonic, on 06/20/2009, -2/+46Yes you are.
The nearly TWO ***** MILLION FINE THE JURY DECIDED UPON. - Drag0nmyballs, on 06/20/2009, -1/+40I am sure Nickleback would be one of them.
- DouglasQ, on 06/20/2009, -2/+40Was that a joke watermelon or are you really that stupid?
- BrentFail, on 06/20/2009, -1/+38Which-hunt? The witch-hunt.
- mywhitenoise, on 06/20/2009, -2/+37So you're in favor of the RIAA? Go drive off a cliff, you piece of *****.
- johnny23, on 06/21/2009, -1/+36actually, I think going to see him play his music would be the best way to show support
- DangerCollie, on 06/20/2009, -1/+34What was that jury thinking? I grew up next door to MN and would have guessed people from up there had more sense.
- whatthefu, on 06/20/2009, -2/+35I'm not against corporate interests in the music industry, but the RIAA has time and again proven how big of a failure it is and how big of a cancer it is to the industry. Musicians need the opportunity to flourish, and a better business model that is flexible and gives the artist more rights would be far more beneficial.
- davidsmero, on 06/21/2009, -1/+33You could steal 24 cd's from a store and not be faced with $1.92 million in fines.
- captainchris, on 06/20/2009, -1/+33like his music or not, moby is an honest, decent guy. he appeared on mtv cribs and they toured his house which was pretty modest for someone as famous as him and at the end he said something like 'next time you guys are in town maybe we can go up on my roof and drink some orange juice'. how can you hate that?
- MadHarvey, on 06/20/2009, -1/+32They are a proud subrace of laborers who work in the hills outside of the munchkin kingdom after being banished for being "different" than the others.
Inside the kingdom, the term 'musicin' is used as derogatory slang amongst the munchkins.. - captainchris, on 06/20/2009, -1/+31that he 'steals'? spoken like an riaa member.
- Big-Pat, on 06/20/2009, -0/+30Uh... he has his own record label, it 's called "Little Idiot". "Wait for Me" (his newest album) is being released through it.
- SamSks, on 06/20/2009, -1/+29It was the size of the award that's the problem. It didn't have any justification for its size considering the alleged damages.
- falafelkiosken, on 06/20/2009, -1/+28what about http://www.pirate-party.us?
- Push9monkeys, on 06/20/2009, -3/+30I know. It's sad. So what if they want to save animals, sounds noble to me.
P.S. I eat meat. - SeverTomorrow, on 06/20/2009, -0/+27In their dreams, they're jealous all the time.
- falafelkiosken, on 06/20/2009, -2/+29the Nazi's were the RIAA of the 30's
- RandomGorilla, on 06/20/2009, -3/+29Two words: Contract Violation.
They've probably been locked into agreements that prevent them from doing anything like that. - bargash, on 06/20/2009, -2/+25No one quotes Eminem anymore, either.
- kahoona1, on 06/20/2009, -0/+22When I think of the RIAA trying to justify a song being worth 80 grand to a judge I just think of some desperate man trying to sell his watch at a pawn shop.
"Give me a 100 thousand, just a 100 thousand. Alright, give me 90, 90 thousand. Fine, 80 thousand it is and you're getting the deal here." - tavisjohn, on 06/20/2009, -0/+21But then the RIAA will have $2,000,000 to spend to rape someone else!
No this should be contested and overturned for flawed math. - MicrosoftBob, on 06/20/2009, -1/+22Not only that, he's a +Christian+ vegan. Sure to cause some ideological disorientation for some on digg.
- Andrewe1, on 06/20/2009, -0/+21I don't get how people call other people losers without actually knowing them. Compared to an individual like you, you are probably a loser in way more aspects than him, way more.
Moby has been defending Net Neutrality for quite a while now, which is an issue that will affect everyone of us.
Even if you put his music aside, he's not a loser. - TheSkunkMonkey, on 06/20/2009, -2/+23The RIAA is doing this on behalf of subsidiaries of all four major recording companies, Warner Music Group, Vivendi's Universal Music Group, EMI Group and Sony's Sony Music Entertainment and the following artists:
Aerosmith, Bryan Adams, Def Leppard, Destiny's Child, Gloria Estefan, Goo Goo Dolls, Green Day, Guns N' Roses, Janet Jackson, Journey, Linkin Park, No Doubt, Reba McEntire, Richard Marx, Sara McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Vanessa Williams.
I suggest people stop buying the products these people produce and promote.
I'm saying this as a big fan of Aerosmith, I am really disappointed they would allow their music be used to destroy this woman's life. - Travelsonic, on 06/20/2009, -0/+20"No matter how you distort it in your mind, the law still says that stealing is wrong."
True, but irrelevant to this issue.
The law states distribution of copyrighted works without permission from the copyright holder is an infringement of rights, not stealing.
And anyways, the law can only state what is illegal or legal, not dictate morality. -
