- arcooke, on 11/25/2007, -1/+28On the other hand, there's never a wrong time to randomly tell the RIAA to stick it where the sun don't shine.

- rizon, on 11/25/2007, -1/+10Better not let smaller record companies record music.
Makes Sony lose over half of what they claim they lose by illegal downloading. - Tenoq, on 11/26/2007, -0/+5Mistake might be pushing the term. Given Sony's track record, I'd say 'calculated shafting' of the smaller label. Luckily he's managed to gain some small compensation through the courts. Shame it's taken so long.
- xtc46, on 11/26/2007, -0/+5Most huge companies like sony budget in money for law suits, also many have insurance for law suits. Doctors for instance can have malpractice insurance so if they ever get sued and lose, they don't go out of business. The ones who don't have money set aside pay out of the bank, if they dont have the money to cover the suit they can try and make payment arrangements (monthly payments etc) or they go out of business.
- arcooke, on 11/25/2007, -0/+5www.whydiggisblocked.com .. it was a front page story yesterday.
- ElectricGrandpa, on 11/26/2007, -2/+5You fail at reading comprehension.
- neom, on 11/25/2007, -1/+3I'm curious, would they actually notice 5mill? How does that effect the running of the company? What happens when a company is ordered to pay huge amounts of money?
- Davinator, on 11/26/2007, -2/+4When I read this, I asked myself... how on earth could a LEGO cost Sony BMG 5 million dollars?! Then I realized I'm an idiot.
- ultrafez, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2Buried for just plain eww.
- inactive, on 11/25/2007, -3/+5What the hell are you talking about?
- localzuk, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2Well the first court settlement outlined that the logo would be put on all future releases. This court case is as a result of them failing to put the logo on albums for more than a year following that - ie. in breach of the settlement.
- andycr512, on 11/26/2007, -0/+2Sony BMG is one of the entities which make up the RIAA.
- inactive, on 11/26/2007, -2/+4Serves em right for giving people rootkits
- NiGHTSChao, on 11/26/2007, -0/+15 Million for a missing logo?
Isn't that a little high? *knows nothing about music industry* - G-RaZoR, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1Because the owners of the private company would have to accept the purchase.
- Tarnum, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1The $5 mil are paid by us, whey we buy Sony BMG's CDs. Oh wait...
- solid12345, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1Some graphic designer forgot to visit www.brandsoftheworld.com
- rkiga, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1in case anyone cares, i remember Meat Loaf was giving an interview and said he got his nickname in childhood when somebody saw his penis and said it looked like meatloaf. every time his name is mentioned anywhere, that's all i can think about. if i have to suffer so do you. *stabs himself in the eye to stop the pain*
- BabyGotMac, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1@p1rj1s - you do realize that 'Bat out of Hell' is one of the top selling albums of all time, and that it has been since it was released 30 years ago?
( Although not an immediate hit, the album has become one of the biggest selling of all time. It sells about 200,000 copies per year and has sold an estimated 37 million copies worldwide. Rolling Stone magazine ranked it at number 343 on their list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bat_out_of_Hell ) - G-RaZoR, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1Yeah but malpractice insurance is also EXTREMELY expensive, and once one lawsuit happens, it is damn near impossible to get insurance, let alone even getting a good rate. Similar to what xtc46 says, all these companies budget towards legal fees and lawsuits. In the event of a lawsuit, it simply considered an expense. Most small businesses have liability insurance as well that covers up to a certain amount (usually $1-2 million, but depends on the size of the business).
- Abjure, on 11/26/2007, -3/+4I see what you did there.
- troycott, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1well that means they loose the 5 million they saved by not doing any market research prior to the release of the PS3.
- G-RaZoR, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1No the 1998 case said that it had to be on the album. The article is about what happened when the logo wasn't on the album. Either way someone lost their job.
- G-RaZoR, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1So you were going to get the PS3 (even though you hate Sony), but now wont get the PS3 because of this court case?
Talk about contradictory. - graemee, on 11/26/2007, -0/+1That's a lot of Xboxes
- Bamborzled, on 11/26/2007, -1/+2Is it from the same idiot who made the "whyfirefoxisblocked" website?
- inactive, on 11/25/2007, -1/+1Thanks for explaining that one, I guess I didn't look very closely at Digg yesterday. Does it have anything to do with this story?
- Christbait, on 11/26/2007, -1/+1Ha
- AshamedAmerican, on 11/25/2007, -1/+1oops.
- Maddoktor2, on 11/26/2007, -1/+1I love Karma.
- p1rj1s, on 11/26/2007, -0/+0Sony would sue the pants of others not attributing them - but five million ... come on. Meat Loaf can just barely sell what equals that amount.
@rkiga. Thanks for that mental image. - doshindude, on 11/26/2007, -1/+1You fail at reading the first sentence.
- quiksliver, on 11/26/2007, -4/+4his name is robert paulson...
- hellbent88, on 11/26/2007, -1/+1hmmm.....this make me wonder, how is sony still alive, it's lost so much this past year, lossing money on the ps3 and now this wow
- Christbait, on 11/26/2007, -2/+1"192% increase doesn't mean anything if the actual number of consoles sold is still measly."
Dem sony folks, they sure love those rare lego sets. - Nistelrooy, on 11/26/2007, -1/+0Haha. I read 'missing lego' and I was like whoa!
- byrdgang, on 11/26/2007, -2/+1Lego? You mean logo.
- rakous, on 11/26/2007, -1/+0I feel bad for Sony, one mistake after another.
- mrjit, on 11/26/2007, -2/+1It all adds up. Loss here, loss there, lawsuit here, lawsuit there.
- wolphcry, on 11/25/2007, -5/+3If they are that small, why not just by the company instead?
- tehrob, on 11/25/2007, -4/+1wow.
- K4P741NxKRUNCH, on 11/25/2007, -4/+1With a mouth like that, he could go far in the porn industry
