I remember when my entire group at work had over 200 gigs of music on the corporate server, then we heard about Lars and his fight with Napster. We immediately deleted all 3 songs from Metallica off the server.

They're arguably one of the most influential bands in the history of metal, period...Lars and James are complete douchenozzles, but that doesn't take away from their brilliance as musicians (except for Lars. He's always been incredibly average as a drummer, if that).

Metallica hasn't been relevant in almost 20 years, their selfish and sad fight against Napster really only hurt their earnings rather than helped them and Lars is too dumb to figure that out.. Quick question, does anyone actually buy or pirate anything after the black album? I loved them back in the day but wouldn't waste the bandwidth on stealing their music now even though some of my CDs are too scratched to rip anymore.

And I remember having more income than sense at the time. I bought crap loads of CDs at the time (averaged 4-5 a week), and you know how I knew which albums to buy?
I downloaded them off Napster first.
When Napster was shutdown, I stopped buying music. Period. I stopped listening to Metallica, and I didn't buy a single CD for years (until NIN: ghosts).
Really they helped me save a lot of money I could have been spending on the wrong music and now I have several non-RIAA outlets to spend my money on. Many of those places (Magnatune, CD Baby, RIAA Radar) are getting free publicity because of Lars and the RIAA acting like asses and alienating their customers.
