- Slashered, on 03/14/2009, -1/+28I'm a huge fan of thrash, black, and death metal, including hundreds/thousands of underground metal bands, as well as someone who realizes how much Load, Reload, Garage Inc. and especially St. Anger sucked (on top of their self-titled album only being decent). But you know what, Death Magnetic was actually a pretty good album and a much needed return to form, and I don't think they deserve all the hate they're getting here. Plus, they still kill it live and play almost all their old songs. Seeing them in a small venue like this would be pretty amazing.
- jecsupastar, on 03/14/2009, -3/+29***** THE RIAA
- Oxygen, on 03/14/2009, -25/+44I'm sorry, but Metallica is just horrible.
- victorc26, on 03/14/2009, -0/+13It seems a lot of people here are still clinging to the Napster snafu that occurred back in 2000.
Oh well, you can't change people's minds once they've got their minds made up. Opinions are opinions.
I can't wait for their next album now that they've got their act together, and cut out Bob Rock from their studio recording process. - victorc26, on 03/14/2009, -0/+13Going by the comments in here, you'd think Metallica killed Digg member's families and raped their pets...
- Yudonomi, on 03/14/2009, -4/+16Believe me, I have spent as much time hating on Metallica as everybody else for the past 10 years. But if you take those dudes as they are now, put them in Stubb's with 2,000 other people, and they only play songs from Death Magnetic, I would still kill to be at that show.
- superterrorizer, on 03/14/2009, -1/+12"Insert generic metallica sold out comment here from 20 years ago"
SXSW always seems pretty good. i hope to go one day, but I'll settle for the MP3's and video they post. - bungoman, on 03/14/2009, -4/+14bargains

- subigo, on 03/14/2009, -12/+21They're so metal... http://files.fluctuat.net/images/cms_flu/1/5/0/3/3 ...
- tavallai, on 03/13/2009, -9/+17SXSW has so firmly jumped the proverbial shark (pardon the hackneyed expression), it hit the god damn moon in the process.
- xiphi, on 03/14/2009, -0/+8Looks like Metallica pissed in everyone's cereal. Get over yourselves. Stop hating Metallica for doing something great to the internet: inadvertently popularizing file sharing. If you're gonna hate them, do it for legitimate reasons.
Most of Metallica's albums are actually great to hear. St. Anger was the only one I can't bear to bring my delicate ears upon. Death Magnetic is almost just as bad. DM was ruined by the "loudness war" and the fact that the songs have so many riffs just for the sake of having them rather than having an epic feel like Master of Puppets. DM is just a glorified jam session, and nothing more. Metallica teased the fans when they played "New Song" on 6-06-06. It made me feel they were back, only to realize they took the song and chopped it up to make an album out of it. Which is pretty low and lazy. But given my opinions about the last two albums, I actually love Load and Reload, but I have more love for their earlier albums. - Fuckmypooplease, on 03/14/2009, -3/+10Is there enough room on that Metallica-hate band-wagon for all you people on Digg?
Metallica are a great band, get over your misplaced pissy fits. - saethone, on 03/14/2009, -2/+7"tick a fork in SXSW. Its done."
Haha, you're kidding....right? SXSW is far to much for 1 bad band to ruin. - amal8301, on 03/13/2009, -4/+8Diggnation then Metallica at Stubb's? What going on here? Wish I could go..
- Relasz, on 03/14/2009, -5/+9I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE VOLUME OF THEIR SNARE
- inactive, on 03/14/2009, -8/+11Metal stopped being relevant in the 90's. Metallica was one of the few bands to survive.
- amirman, on 03/14/2009, -0/+2aren't all the SXSW bands providing music for a big torrent package? does this mean we'll be allowed to download metallica's music with bittorrent legally?
- lithera, on 03/14/2009, -3/+5That was almost 10 years ago. Get over it, life goes on...
- nathanwalker, on 03/14/2009, -0/+2yes it is. its bigger than like, idk, the red eyed fly or headhunters (my bathroom is bigger than headhunters) but stubbs is still small compared to the big stadiums metallica has played.
- superterrorizer, on 03/14/2009, -0/+2Actually, Yes, I believe so. SXSW is suppose to release a lot of material this year. And Metallica has made a lot of their live recordings available for free in the past few years.
- the2989, on 03/15/2009, -0/+2I buried every anti-Metallica comment so far.
- dext3r, on 03/14/2009, -0/+2So Metallica should be free by your logic, no problems here.
"Free" is a price dictated by society. If there was a way to "Bittorrent" your meal, people would do it and the value and marketing of restaurants would go down, but thats because *the market* for eating meals was changing. if people dont want to pay for something, it has no value. instead of crying about NOTHING IS FREE, marketers need to adapt to the perceived value of their product and find a new way to promote said value.
also, really? bittorrent a meal? what a stupid and weak example. - xero69, on 03/15/2009, -0/+1I saw R.E.M. at Stubb's last year during SXSW and it is a very cool little venue (and the BBQ kicks ass too). But REM and other famous bands like Metallica can tour any time they want to, so why bother with SXSW? SXSW's original purpose was to let unknown and new bands get exposure to multiple labels and talent scouts without having to spend wads of cash or drive thousands of miles on tour. It was about helping the little bands get big exposure.
- trotskyist, on 03/14/2009, -0/+1Stubbs is an iconic venue in Austin.
A lot of big name acts play there. - the2989, on 03/15/2009, -0/+1And literally ***** your own face.
- Maestros, on 03/15/2009, -0/+1Agreed...Nice return to form, but the album was horribly mastered!
- the2989, on 03/15/2009, -0/+1Yeah, thank god for Metallica, napster sucked compared to bittorrent.
- Kyderdog, on 03/17/2009, -0/+1I have listen to them and I have to agree with Oxgen.
- inactive, on 03/14/2009, -15/+16Metallica stoped being relevent to metal since the early 90's.
- inactive, on 03/14/2009, -10/+11Metallica Rules!
- the2989, on 03/15/2009, -0/+1Who are you?
- Twenty, on 03/14/2009, -8/+9God damnit, die already. Music is a lot of things but it's not a ***** revenue model.
- white2grey, on 03/14/2009, -0/+1I really don't know whether to dig this up or down....
- superterrorizer, on 03/14/2009, -0/+1well, said. And I love Load and Reload too, fonderplague. Just because I'm a metallica fan of their albums from the 80's doesn't mean I'm required to hate them.
- pnunn, on 03/16/2009, -0/+1sxsw + metallica = proof that both have no clue about anything anymore.
- screwattackthis, on 03/14/2009, -0/+1This is a prime example of "courtesy" all the Texans speak of.
- SteveMTyler, on 03/14/2009, -0/+1this generations woodstock
- Spoomeister, on 03/14/2009, -1/+2DON'T TARNISH FLUFFY'S MEMORY LIKE THAT, IT'S STILL TOO SOON, THE PAIN'S TOO RAW
- dext3r, on 03/14/2009, -0/+1Judging by the dugg/bury comment war going on here, it seems like the internet likes Metallica again? I didn't get the memo.
- BLyday, on 03/14/2009, -2/+3Will the venue be big enough for Lars' ego though?
- BaronSamedi242, on 03/14/2009, -0/+1Yeah, they went from the redeemer of metal to something fratboy douchebags in Affliction T-shirts and Ed Hardy jeans listen to.
Watching "Some kind of monster" was ***** painful. - gamben0, on 03/15/2009, -2/+3You don't have to apologize for speaking the truth.
- mikelieman, on 03/14/2009, -4/+5Dethklok is more relevant today than Metallica.
- BaronSamedi242, on 03/14/2009, -0/+0Nope, they showed their true colours then, and they can go ***** themselves then and now.
- SecretAsianMann, on 03/15/2009, -0/+0I actually saw the live Diggnation tonight in person. Metallica won't be playing at Stubbs until this Friday though. I freaked out at the thought of seeing both in one sitting until I realized they were performing on separate nights:( The entire Rev3 team is super ***** cool though, I met quite a few of them and even briefly chatted with Dan and Jeff (TRS) as well as Jim Louderback. Cool people. Plus I got a bunch of swag:)
- audiogeek5, on 03/14/2009, -2/+2speaking of defeating the entire point of SXSW....
- 1x253, on 03/14/2009, -0/+0Ah, yes, and RIP Liberty Lunch.
- josejimenez, on 03/14/2009, -1/+1And someday you will grow up and leave your mommy's basement. Then you will discover that things cost money. Everything in life is not free. You cannot go to a restaurant and Bittorrent your meal. You'll be dead from starvation in a matter of time.
You unemployed hippy socialists need to understand that nothing in life is free. Well, crap and garbage is free. - BaronSamedi242, on 03/14/2009, -0/+0Sir, that comment was gently battered and deep-fried in win.
