- Raistlen007, on 10/11/2007, -1/+68That's one way to make sure millions of people hate your music.
- ericodom, on 10/11/2007, -1/+42Welcome to Media Defender... the world's most hated firm.
- SigmaDraconis, on 10/11/2007, -1/+32IT'S A TRAP!
- rabidmonkey1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+26They can't even give their crap away...
- guywhodoesstuff, on 10/11/2007, -0/+26Its almost like they want me to steal music.
- thedragon4453, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20Really, I think they are asking for it. If they would just back the hell off, I might be encouraged to buy cd's. But now, I feel dirty giving money to these companies, knowing they are just going to use it to ***** me or my friends.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16"virus ridden torrent sites like TPB"
What are you downloading? Porn zip files? - AcePup, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1416 million tracks from a crappy artist too, or one no one has heard of.
- Sandurz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12For pirating music nowadays torrents are the way to go.
- mrsteveman1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9This is definitely a good way to make people stay away from media formats like asf/wma which allow this to happen by providing the ability to load arbitrary scripts, websites and images regardless of the users intent.
It's also a good way to make me hate Sprint for agreeing to fund this ***** crap.
Bye Bye sprint phone. - uptown, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9PLEASE .... Let it be Yani!
- sparrowkc, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11"OH BOY FREE TUNES!" *click* 'Thank you for downloading this song. By playing this song, you agree to allow your computer to be periodically scanned for pirated media, and to have your computer become a part of the MediaDefender spam network. You also surrender your soul to MediaDefender Inc.'
- dabears1218, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Well, that's a mature way to handle things.
- mrsteveman1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Nope.
I have plenty of artists music, though. - SavageIndustrie, on 07/25/2009, -3/+8I wanna know what one artist has written 16 MILLION songs?
- Rooster99, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Could this possibly be another one of those "internal projects"?
- bigd063, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Until they start ***** with my torrents, don't really care.
- gunslinger37, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5dear god ... they're in the trees
- bridow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5he didnt write 16 million songs, wtf! they renamed one song, 16M times...
- danakin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I smell a plant...
- Zacharute, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4It doesn't matter, MP3 and WMA both support embedding the album artwork that shows when you play it in a media player. That is what they mean by logo embedded.
- igyigyigy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Your ears can't repel crappy music of that magnitude!
- scottamlegend, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4You should check out Shatner's album "Has Been." It's actually quite good.
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I like them, it's amusing watching them try all these different things and having each one fail spectacularly.
- swoopdog, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5doesn't look like someone read the article or the title of the story when it said they will SPAM the networks.
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Torrents are a bit more self regulating than the traditional p2p networks, thank goodness
- Alex2, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4The other way is to let Leonard Nimoy or William Shatner sing it.
- r0ar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4It seems that every week the RIAA/MPAA/MediaDefender does something stupid, I'm starting to be less surprised each time.
- barrimon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Media Defender must have no idea how unbelievably horrible that song is.
- philz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Competition: The one who has all 16'000'000 (from different sources) on his hard disks wins 1 (one) Internet.
- DS513, on 10/11/2007, -1/+416 million legal free tracks on P2P? That's GOOD! :)
...But they're all from one artist? That's BAD! :( - actorboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Entrapment? I don't see anything in the article about the intent to sue anyone who downloads it. In fact it reads to me that they've found a way to get someone to sponsor music so you can download it free. That's what you wanted, wasn't it? Free music?
- swoopdog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"Decoying and Spoofing are the most commonly known techniques that we employ. We send blank files and data noise that look exactly like a real response to an initiated search requests for a particular title."
what a joke.
I think I may go ahead and start uploading real copies of things (from legitimate sources) on public bit torrent trackers. Something I shy away from. I cant believe how arrogant they are. OH yeah like the person seeding or distributing the file wont notice its corrupted lol. - flexoutlaw, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2If they are going to flood the market with select songs... what songs will they pick? Probably the ones that are most popular on the charts. That means crap music that is played on the radio until you hate the song. Are we supposed to view this as a bad thing?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2the files will be in WMA and not MP3
- uptown, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Wait wait wait ... don't tell me. Is it a geranium?
- mookieXL, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Isn't this DoS? It was illegal last time i checked.
- marx2k, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4OGG 4EVR
- MarkOfTheDead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2yeah but it isn't like the mpaa wasn't denying any ties to mediadefender last week when the digg effect cost them a bit more than they were willing to handle server-wise, and on top of that installing scanware msi's on people's machines. that ***** is SHADY.
they didn't exactly make a good name for themselves starting off. we're talking mediadefender releasing music, not one of the big 3 labels sponsoring tracks.
i'd say a better solution wouldn't be shooting themselves in the foot trying to fool people (miivi) and put that effort towards working with labels for a promo-style atmosphere not so unlike the free itunes tracks thing one of the soda companies were doing a while back. THAT is adapting, not continuing to ***** where you eat. for a bunch of people so hard up for cash they sure are ready to piss it away doing anything BUT adapting. - nicepants, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Actually, third. RIAA, MPAA, Media Defender
- SmokeMeAKipper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I hope it has DRM.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1from the article: "Sprint has bought the rights to have their name and logo embedded into tracks from the Atlantic Records hip-hop artist Plies"
what i'm curious about, is how they expect a mp3 to display a graphical logo. rootkit anybody? - MarkOfTheDead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yeah that's all well and good but you can still end up with a complete file due to the hash check, and if there are corrupted parts in the rar, sfv can be your best friend. mediadefender is the kid whose dad is a network admin so therefore they believe they know everything too *rolls eyes*
- Spr0k3t, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1wma and aac have the ability to include quite a few things... even linked data. It's the very reason I use standards such as ogg, flac, and mp3.
- gheide, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1didn't think about those formats. The gullible ones will be downloading in the 'exploitable' formats, I guess...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1desu
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1people dont. :( there are so many idiots that seed this ***** because they never bother deleting it.
- Tsen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That hardly worked in the first place, and it's years old now--there's more spam sites giving false results than there ever were REAL site indexes. Get torrents. Or hell, Limewire. It's virus-ridden, but at least it works.
- andreusboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Sadly a lot use WMP. For these people is too much of a hassle and complicated work to google and install a decent alternative. It just has to be there and work. Or they will use iTunes because of their little iPods.
- atmicrat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I get back at them by not buying any media as it be cd dvd or video game.
