News headlines from 1986. - Dumbledorito, on 02/15/2009, -1/+29And according to the RIAA, she'd have hojillions of dollars more and bigger ***** if it wasn't for rampant music piracy.
- c0mputar, on 02/15/2009, -0/+19Jonas Brothers on SNL tonight made me feel ill.
- louiebaur, on 02/14/2009, -0/+15#21 Louie Baur = Very Little :-)
- ScottMcIntyre, on 02/14/2009, -2/+17She's a material girl living in a material world (or rather a middle-aged woman!)
- alanocu, on 02/14/2009, -10/+25Not really a fan of grandmadonna. She works really hard, but..
We've seen it all before
We've seen it all before
We've seen it all before
We've seen it all before
We've seen it all before
We've seen it all before
(please don't say......)
Seriously though. I wish she'd move to Antarctica. - HastyNameChoice, on 02/15/2009, -0/+15And the reason is that only old people are still actually buying music.
- beautifulbeast, on 02/14/2009, -1/+13All the haters, you've never seen her live; she really knows how to put on a show. I'll admit her last records are ***** though.
- siggyfawn, on 02/15/2009, -1/+13It's called a lawyer.
And bitter much? - argoff, on 02/15/2009, -7/+16I had a girlfriend who looked up to Madonna as a role model. Needless to say, she got pregnant with my child and then walked because she wanted to be a mother who is not dependent on a man. Should have seen it coming. You never know with girls, maybe it was me? Still, it just seems to me like that kid is going to have a totally ***** up dysfunctional life with a lot of men in and out of it .... man that gets to me.
So if you ask me, Madonna is an evil bitch. I hope she crashes hard, and if you ask me she can't burn in hell soon enough. I'm glad she's getting old, now her saggy rotten whore looking outside will finally match her saggy rotten whore soul on the inside and the men of the world will finally have closure. - JQP123, on 02/15/2009, -1/+10And according to the prevailing attitude on digg, Madonna could have become just as big a star and made just as much money by simply giving her music away on the internet --- without ever having a contract with a RIAA record label.
Only one small problem --- there's much more evidence supporting the RIAA's position than there is for the digg concensus.
Every single act on the top 20 list has benefitted from years of RIAA promotion. Where are the superstars that earn this sort of money without it --- by giving their music away on the internet? That's right --- they don't exist.
- wpc33, on 02/15/2009, -0/+9You have got some ISSUES, MAN..,wha-ho-hoo...
- DirtyBurger, on 02/15/2009, -0/+7Don't forget Madonna probably charges a ridiculous amount for a single ticket to her show.
- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -1/+8it's called a ***** condom dumbass
- jcannonb, on 02/15/2009, -2/+8All of these negative comments, simply means her fans don't exist on digg or, they keep their mouth shut. If she was the #1 music entertainer in 2008, then she has a boatload of fans, and you all are clearly in the minority.
- Ukghster, on 02/15/2009, -1/+7THIS is killing the music industry, not downloading. 5 top names from the 80s? Where is the new blood? Why are labels still pushing their old money cows instead of new names making good, fresh music??
- linuxpenguin, on 02/15/2009, -0/+59. Jonas Brothers: $62,638,814
Jesus Christ, people actually paid to hear THAT?
Actually I don't understand how half the people on this list made that much. The Eagles, AC/DC, and Journey are all right, and if you're into rap I suppose Lil Wayne and Mary J Blige. But come on - Bon Jovi? The Police? And I don't care what anyone thinks of Kanye - because I think he's a tool, and he always comes across that way. - adam2112, on 02/15/2009, -5/+10Man, people have horrible taste in music.
- bulbasuar, on 02/15/2009, -0/+5Don't worry, its not yours anyway. She's a whore.
- inactive, on 02/15/2009, -0/+5I made 10 cents today. I am so happy...
- doublefelix, on 02/14/2009, -0/+5This makes her settlement with Guy Ritchie sound all the more reasonable.
- badqat, on 02/14/2009, -2/+6He deserves every single shilling he got. And then some.
- zyklon, on 02/15/2009, -1/+5So... she's a material girl living in a rather middle-aged woman?
- jcannonb, on 02/15/2009, -0/+4That is apparently *untrue* since she made the most of any other touring star in 2008.
- Rotzooi, on 02/15/2009, -0/+4probably?
- gl77, on 02/15/2009, -0/+3and yet people still bitch about downloading music and how it's taking money away from the artists.........i dont see any of these ***** starving... i'm off to the pirate bay.
- ninjagore, on 02/15/2009, -0/+3"Man must learn to think of these outcomes before he acts selfishly, or else...I fear...recording artists will be forever doomed to a life of only semi luxury."
--- "Christian Rock Hard." South Park. - JQP123, on 02/15/2009, -0/+3Judging from this story, a lot of old people are still buying concert tickets too.
- IamNomad, on 02/15/2009, -3/+6madonna has a better body then anyone youve been with regardless of her age.
- DeusNova, on 02/15/2009, -2/+5Buried, mainstream music is boring.
- lingum, on 02/15/2009, -2/+5I'd hit it.
- reed311, on 02/15/2009, -1/+4Thousands of bands are giving away their music for free at myspace and I can tell you right now, only a handful of them are actually making enough money to do it for a living; and even then they are probably just barely scraping by. The RIAA is essential as they put millions into promoting your band and getting your name out there.
- bdbr, on 02/15/2009, -0/+3I'm not sure where it started - the Spice Girls, maybe - but some very cunning music exec figured out there was very good money in making music for 12-year-old girls. You can expect to see that notion regurgitated over and over again for the foreseeable future.
- thePTS, on 02/15/2009, -0/+3Dugg for venting.
However Madonna isn't really the same as your gf.. she was an honest slut in her time, and honest sluts are good in my book. You know what you can expect from them. Concealed sluts ("stealth sluts") however, now that's a different story. - dienaked, on 02/15/2009, -4/+6Being a slut all those years really paid off.
- inactive, on 02/15/2009, -0/+2I guess someone should've told you that psychos get pregnant too.
- Brickedin21, on 02/15/2009, -0/+2Kanye does not deserve to make this list. It just makes his epeen bigger.
- brandita, on 02/15/2009, -0/+2Jonas Brothers in the top ten is the most shocking. I need to market more stuff to tweens...
- inactive, on 02/15/2009, -0/+2You would pay for Madonna?
242 million is equal to 282 lives of work and saving every single cent.. - inactive, on 02/15/2009, -0/+2The music industry is always saying that piracy is why the CD selling business isn't going very well, never mind that CDs are a very old fashioned medium to sell music. A lot of people argue that the best way an artist can make money is through concerts, where the money reach the artist more directly and that brings us to commandment's comment.
- tecunx, on 02/15/2009, -0/+2I hate idiots who can“t get past the "madonna sucks"... "madonna is old" argument. You on the other hand, ring true. It is true cause I saw it, Madonna influenced so many young girls and turned them into nasty bitches.
- kihadat, on 02/15/2009, -0/+2Everything but classical music is boring.
- Lixie, on 02/15/2009, -1/+3Ah ha! So it went from concerts promoting the album to the album promoting the concert! How the times have changed.
- tecunx, on 02/15/2009, -1/+3I liked most of her records since Ray Of Light. I have not listened to the last one, but "Confessions on a Dance Floor" is pretty good.
- houndeyex, on 02/15/2009, -0/+2Dugg for "hojillions" and the truth.
- diggabytes, on 02/15/2009, -0/+1JQP is right. There is more "good, fresh" music than ever and it's easier to get it "out there" thanks to the internet and affordable recording media and software. But, the big bucks now come from concerts and people that don't download stuff for free, and those are generally "older" folks that like "older" music.
- DirtyVicar, on 02/15/2009, -3/+4Nice... we fattened Madonna with $242 million and Bruce Springsteen with $156 million, but we still can't pay schoolteachers a living wage.
