- Kronos6948, on 05/19/2008, -1/+74Usually they're listening to the record that's on the other turntable, the one not heard in the club, so that they can sync it up. The other ear is off so they can hear what's being played in the club.
- twiztidsinz, on 05/19/2008, -0/+48I knew it was fake because the shadows were all wrong.
- CeeAyy, on 05/19/2008, -24/+55This is completely fake. I give them a lot of credit for coming up with an original video concept though.
Anyone who is a turntablist can tell you that this is fake. Anyone who has a clear understanding of how tape decks work can tell you that this is fake. Even assuming that you could manipulate the spindles in that fashion, the tape would become jammed immediately.
Also, most tape decks require a switch to choose which source you can listen to. The tape deck could have been modified to play both sources at the same time, but it is doubtful. Then there is the matter of the headphones. There is no mixer involved. For what he is pretending to do, the headphones would be irrelevant. He is not cueing up anything.
I have a few more reasons why I believe this is a fake but I won't bore anyone further. I'm surprised no one else sees this as a fake. - urbanoms, on 05/19/2008, -14/+42Turning nothing into something is what Hip Hop is all about.
Not all this BS thats pushed by Clear Channel and Viacom - theotheragentm, on 05/19/2008, -3/+29Also, only one headphone stays on while you wear your hat sideways.
- noots, on 05/19/2008, -31/+45can someone explain why DJ's wear headphones on one ear? is it purely for "style" or is there a legitimate reason?
- willdelaney, on 05/19/2008, -36/+46From his new album - Rape the tape

- dumpyhumpy, on 05/19/2008, -14/+23Once the first 40 comments are all buried below the viewing threshold they should be replaced by a big tombstone and the comments should start over again.
- digichris, on 05/19/2008, -1/+7Many great artists from genres other than hip hop use samples in a tasteful way. But most (~all) of the stuff you see on Clear Channel and Viacom (MTV) is garbage.
Edit: This was @BillGod... new comment system heh. - stayhumble, on 05/19/2008, -2/+7FOR THE CHEAP DJ! Pressing vinyl gets expensive - but dubbing tapes is fast/easy. Nice work. IMO, this ain't no joke! As previously mentioned: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=088AWsTtTFU
- YamiJim, on 05/19/2008, -0/+4/me answers the same ***** question like an artard
- paradigmdream, on 05/19/2008, -5/+9proof?
- mixxo, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3Dugg Up because i actually got the reference :0)~
- aphorizm, on 05/19/2008, -6/+9I don't know about this video being fake, but tape scratching is possible. Here's a better (earlier) example from DJ Ruthless Ramsay with two ghetto blasters and a mixer. Lots of hip hop DJ's are picking up on this trend.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=088AWsTtTFU - stayhumble, on 05/19/2008, -1/+4oh dude, you didn't get the 'how to' part? I mean, after watching this video, I instantly became a tape-scratching pro.
- Dorke, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2i am not trying to promote better comment digging behavior. in fact i don't give two *****...***** moron.
- clarionhaze, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2lols, i think he's rolling that from a Kid Koala album which in itself is scratching gold and doesn't need to be mixed.
- shukribg, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2why does your comment have minus 5 diggs, I was cracking up. anyway, now it has only -4
- cJeremy, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2haha, nice Invisibl Skratch Piklz sticker on his Mac. YEAH~

Allows for scratching of CDs - Dorke, on 05/19/2008, -1/+3the sound of a "SCRATCH" is just that...scratching the needle on the vinyl.....if you ***** were born after the death of the audiotape you would know that that is not what is sounds like when you ***** around with it. *****....
- DteK, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2you can actually delete a post and replace it as necessary if it is still within the time limit. Very useful I have found.
- stayhumble, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2its a medium for playing music. it was all the rage in the 80's. check it out in your encyclopedia britanicas, duh!
- sodascape, on 05/19/2008, -6/+8to mix, you have to hear the music that's playing, and match it to the music you're queuing up through the headphones.
- Nitrodist88, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1http://www.virtualdj.com/
Demo on site. Or just look for it on various torrent sites. - oldhick, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1where is that?
- mavsman4457, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1The only problem with digging down every single comment is when peopl post interesting stuff like the Star Wars scratching thing. This video is pretty ill. I hope it's possible.
- tman84, on 05/19/2008, -7/+8to listen to the 2nd track in cue. you've got 2 records going or whatever, one is playing for the crowd and the dj is listening to the other song in his headphones, the beats don't match themselves up, this is why he is called the disc jockey.
- yugiohdan6, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1photoshop doesn't work with videos...
- fubuvsfitch, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1You're a moron. It's not fake and it's pretty damned easy to replicate.
- ironmodulus, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2I particularly liked this one more: http://www.5min.com/Video/How-To-Scratch-the-Star- ...
The costume does it for me. - jun2san, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Wiki wiki wiki wiki
- samimy, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1stupid !
- fubuvsfitch, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1You have no idea what you are talking about man.
His hand is moving plenty fast at the point where it is necessary. Just a slight turn of a small wheel plays a lot of tape, especially if the reel is nearly full. Just like the outside of a sphere might be spinning at 36,000 miles per hour while the inside is only spinning at 3,000 mph. - Rawkus, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1I was the 1000th Digg, pretty cool. Check Out this amazing collection of Hip Hop videos from Atmosphere, Kanye, Kweli, + more
http://buzzcuts.uproxx.com/category/hip-hop - pyngthyngs, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1I know, this is really annoying.
- britoca, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1lol, very interesting, impractical, but fun. Now, what I really, really want to see, is gramophone scratching.
- aphorizm, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Someone already has. Serato Scratch lets you put some blank/dummy vinyl on your turntable, hook it up to your computer and you can assign mp3's to each table.
RZA was claiming he invented this technology recently but he hadn't enough money to spend on patents and stop Serato from stealing the idea.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXsYXMqw4Zc - roflbrothel, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1They've had MP3 scratching and mixing since at least 1999. I used to screw around with it before I got turntables.
- Funkleft, on 05/19/2008, -1/+2is that such a bad thing?
- elislider, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1this is far better
http://www.collegehumor.com/video:157650 - sailadayaway, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1You can do it with the newer CD decks too, you just need a CD with a known frequency, and a program like virtual DJ, and it will sync. You can also adjust pitch on the CD deck, and it will speed up and slow down the mp3 so you can beat-match.
- traphik, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1Obviously Photoshopped ...
- opencipher, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1Fake...for a few technical reasons...seems like he has a lot of people fooled though. scratching has alot to do with manipulating the volume etc., but this is just a tape of scratches and him moving his finger like he's the one doing it
- stayhumble, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1they've got fake vinyl records that send a sensor back to your laptop and you actually can scratch mp3s. i saw a guy doing it in 2003. he had a bunch of hard drives with his setup. it was nuts!
- Rolamoto, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1There is a program for Linux called TerminatorX and a program for OS X called djay that scratch mp3's and I'm sure there are some for Windows
