- whereisian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27So sweet. Now this is the kind of ***** I digg.
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i might get beat up for this because, yes it is my post but if you really dig this kinda stuff you might wanna check out:
http://digg.com/music/CONCERT_VAULT_Live_Performances_from_Classic_Bands - artofwar420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Louis Armstrong is cool so many ways.
- xocomil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My favorite past time is to go into the small town diner and play Louis Armstrong on the jukebox for an hour or so. I love the looks that all the cowboys give me right after "I'll take the legs from so old table..." starts to play....
- terrya64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great video, done about the time as the classic Hot Five's and Hot Seven's recordings.

- bflfab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I wanted that to go on for ten more minutes. So sweet.
- robotsongs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wonder if that's really the sound of that performance though (discounting the obvious add-in of the audience). Notice that when he scoops in to some of the notes he bends his head forward, or sometime turns away from the mic, but his volume and timbre never seem to change.
It's an awesome clip though... thanks IvanB! - loginname, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Isn't this the video that the audience clapping gif came from that is used all the time in fark comments.
Look at about 4 seconds into the video...
EDIT: Oops, I was wrong, but it was pretty close though!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/elkgrovedan/Applause.gif - dustedbunny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I love Louis Armstrong and this song is probably one of my favorites. B.B King is coming to the House of Blues in Atlantic City, NJ in February and I'm really thinking about going to see him again.
- RevnCliffie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've seen him twice, once in a large hall and once in an outdoor setting, I'd love to see him in a small venue.
- jdfoote2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Finally - a front page story that isn't about Wii!!
Great post - Armstrong is amazing. - tr0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Armstrong was the man. That performance gave me the chills.
- BuffalOBisoN, on 10/12/2007, -16/+3Louis Armstrong was a life long marijuana smoker. He smoked every day of his adult life. Should he have been imprisoned? If he had been jailed he would not have had the opportunity create all of the wonderful music which we are blessed with still to this day. How many people's lives have been ruined by prohibition that would have gone on to create great things had they only not been denied the chance? Why are we still following these insane policies?
- nakedlobo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Lets not turn this wonderful video of a legend into a battle for the legalization of marijuana... I smoke daily too and support pot legalization, but there doesn't seem to be any reason to turn this thread into a pro-pot message...
Just sit back and enjoy his amazing performance.
I had just been sitting here listening to Louis Armstrong and was happy to run into a thread about this musician!

- mdoverkill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19It's a shame that 99% of digg probably has no idea who this great man is. This is a classic performance, and what a voice!
- rootneg2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oh Sachmo... one of my all time favorite vocalists.
I was in the car with somebody one time when Louis came on and I started singing along and they say "Who the hell is that? he sounds like a frog..." I just about slapped them...
- rootneg2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oh Sachmo... one of my all time favorite vocalists.
- MysticSavage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10It's great to see stuff from an era where you actually had to have talent to be successful in show business.
- brockpetrie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have this on a DVD set of mine. Awesome performance
- catfive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4OLD.
ha- digitalblue1313, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0No kidding!
- espouser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Dinah one of his greatest performances? Are you kidding?
Now if someone had a clip of him doing Potatoe Head Blues circa around 1928, you might be able to say that. - PrometheuZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Ahhhhh...the good old days, when music actually had soul. Take one good look at today's Billboard top 20 and weep!
- SuperNick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You act like good music still isn't made today. There is plenty of good music it's just not very popular because the average American is an idiot.
- PrometheuZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree...the recording industry only feeds the 'average American idiot' as you put it. The good music is out there.
- sminky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wonderful
- noseeme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's no longer rare when it's on Youtube. :)
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and now it's on my iPod too, sweet! :-)
- moncef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I got a digg account just to digg this.
Louis Armstrong is the man. - SlowOnTheUptake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sachmo! Timeless. Thanks for putting up on Digg.
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well now I certainly didn't expect to ever see a story about Louis Armstrong on Digg of all places.
More please. - rootneg2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2moar!
anybody have any videos of Satchmo and Ella together?
I have some recordings of the two together, but no videos. "Baby it's Cold Outside" will always bring tears to my eyes...
Why don't they make music like this anymore?- rootneg2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ella Fitzgerald ain't got no peer...

- warragul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I remember as a kid hearing that the buzz in Downbeat magazine was about who would come in second to Ella in the awards.
A tisket a tasket, my red and yellow basket... - hdickins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He was great on that moon landing too.
Oh. Um. No. Sorry, I keep getting those two confused. - JennyPenny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Do you guys think Digg should have a music section?
I just thought it would be awesome to have a collection of rare and unique musical performances pooled into one section.... there seems to be enough interest in it....
Yes
No
Maybe - yer0c, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ack, it's gone now! Where's it at?
