he's not doing anything wrong and operating within digg's guidelines. your comment is completely misguided, it's the USERS who are digging him all the time. people watch his account. so it's a "community behavior" not a "user behavior" that you're trying to address. good luck with that one. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+26Here is your list:
"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" - A folk song by Anne Bredon, this was originally credited as "traditional, arranged by Jimmy Page," then "words and music by Jimmy Page," and then, following legal action, "Bredon/Page/Plant."
"Black Mountain Side" - uncredited version of a traditional folk tune previously recorded by Bert Jansch.
"Bring It On Home" - the first section is an uncredited cover of the Willie Dixon tune (as performed by the imposter Sonny Boy Williamson).
"Communication Breakdown" - apparently derived from Eddie Cochran's "Nervous Breakdown."
"Custard Pie" - uncredited cover of Bukka White's "Shake 'Em On Down," with lyrics from Sleepy John Estes's "Drop Down Daddy."
"Dazed And Confused" - uncredited cover of the Jake Holmes song (see The Above Ground Sound Of Jake Holmes).
"Hats Off To (Roy) Harper" - uncredited version of Bukka White's "Shake 'Em On Down."
"How Many More Times" - Part one is an uncredited cover of the Howlin' Wolf song (available on numerous compilations). Part two is an uncredited cover of Albert King's "The Hunter."
"In My Time Of Dying" - uncredited cover of the traditional song (as heard on Bob Dylan's debut).
"The Lemon Song" - uncredited cover of Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor" - Wolf's publisher sued Zeppelin in the early 70s and settled out of court.
"Moby Dick" - written and first recorded by Sleepy John Estes under the title "The Girl I Love," and later covered by Bobby Parker.
"Nobody's Fault But Mine" - uncredited cover of the Blind Willie Johnson blues.
"Since I've Been Lovin' You" - lyrics are the same as Moby Grape's "Never," though the music isn't similar.
"Stairway To Heaven" - the main guitar line is apparently from "Taurus" by Spirit.
"White Summer" - uncredited cover of Davey Graham's "She Moved Through The Fair."
"Whole Lotta Love" - lyrics are from the Willie Dixon blues "You Need Love." - Haax, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15The problem is people like you who care more about who subitted the story than the actual content. Does it even matter? I never look at the submitter's name until a douchebag like you points it out.
- thirteen, on 10/10/2007, -4/+17This has all over radio and in print before. Here is a link to the Zep ripoffs.
http://www.classicrockcentral.com/classic_rock_infocus.cfm - MrBabyMan, on 10/10/2007, -4/+17Do you have any evidence to back this up, or is it a baseless accusation?
- sjbdallas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I've been frustrated more than a few times that decent stories I dugg were ignored while similar or the exact stories dugg up by others made it to the front page. But in retrospect, given the amount of coordination and dedication to posting crap on the internet that it must take to accomplish getting to the front page, I think i'll just keep my day job.
- shinedout, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12gardnmi - thank for this awesome list. You really answered my question, it was all I asked. I must say though when it comes to talent, originality behind the kit and raw guitar speed - Zepplin was way ahead of it's time. Soon to follow people slowy blew Bonham and Page away with technical skill, but for a few short years, you got to admit they really were the hardest, fastest band out there. Thanks for the list again.
- way2muchsense, on 10/10/2007, -7/+19So Zep was influenced by other artists. What band wasn't? There hasn't been a purely original piece of music made since Og the caveman banged two rocks together.
- addiggt, on 07/06/2009, -6/+16Why does that bother you? He's one of the biggest contributors to Digg and in my opinion, finds some of the best content out there. The site wouldn't be the same without users like him and many others who take the time to make the site as interesting as possible for other users and without asking for anything in return. So do us all a favor, STFU and appreciate it. :)
- shinedout, on 10/10/2007, -6/+16**For anyone who says Zepplin ripped off other bands**
Please supply a list of these "bands." Also know this is not an attack on who ever claims this. I'm not trying to pull rank or something, If for any other reason, let me gain this knowledge and make my own assumption. Seriously, what bands were these? - 5wallace, on 10/10/2007, -9/+17Led Zeppelin is the greatest rock band of all time. The only other bands that are close are The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Who and maybe The Beatles (however, the Beatles are not a rock band really). I would argue that the Rolling Stones are the only real challengers because of their longevity, however, based upon quality of music and talent, Led Zeppelin is second to none in the the hard rock genre. Anyone who thinks otherwise could not tell their ass from a hole in the ground.
- toxicityj, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10then stfu and start posting your own stories if you don't like it.
- imdwalrus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7shinedout DID ask for a list...
- osc1882, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Yeah, to bad its Itunes.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8 A list of some of the songs Zep stole from other artists:
"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" - A folk song by Anne Bredon, this was originally credited as "traditional, arranged by Jimmy Page," then "words and music by Jimmy Page," and then, following legal action, "Bredon/Page/Plant."

"Whole Lotta Love" - lyrics are from the Willie Dixon blues "You Need Love." - reed311, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Please listen to any blues or jazz artist, they all do the same thing.
- Minishark, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Half the stuff Miles Davis played was written by somebody else. However, his arrangements and interpretations of the songs were original, and that's why he's one of the most influential jazz artists of all time. Not to mention his playing was amazing.
Zeppelin did the same thing for hard rock. - TWillz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Say what you will about Zeppelin - they still had 3 of the best damn musicians ever. Period. I'd put Bonham, Plant and JP Jones against any other drummer, guitarist or bassist nowadays and they would eat them for lunch. John Paul Jones for one had more musical talent in a hair on his pinky than most of the crap bass players and other "rock" players today. Ask anyone who plays guitar what inspired them to pick one up, and I'm sure the name Jimmy Page will be mentioned more than a few times.
Babe, I'm gonna leave you with that. - diggSJaustin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Speaking of copying, you might want to note that your list comes (verbatim) from this Zep reviewer: http://www.warr.org/zep.html
- t0lta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Zeppelin isn't about the hits, they're a whole album band. I hope this doesn't happen so a bunch more idiots will say "OMG lead zeppin iz my
favorite my best is the one that haze 2 do with stairs!!!!" Please just go by the albums. - JeffDrum, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5you're all being women. led zeppelin is an amazingly talented band even if they cover a few songs out of their 100 song arsenal. They were way ahead of their time and record sales prove it.
- spyd3rweb, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10I think if anyone hasnt bought the Zeppelin CDS by now you are just retarded. This isnt some no talent assclown band like britney...
- honkimon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yea, Tool & Led Zeppelin @ 128 kbps is totally what the world needs... Might as well listen to AM radio
- RichG13, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4wow I got them all back in the vinyl days.. and still have them too... even the brown bag for "In Through The Out Door"
- xombiefarts, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4digg me down but itunes..no thank you.
- theballdredge, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4i know i buy my music illegally all the time!
- Daveecee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Um, the list was posted TWICE in above comments. L2read, illiterate
- somegeologist, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Oh boy classics with DRM, no thank you.
- jd72277, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6drat, if only I hadn't gotten all their stuff from oink already.
- kenvsryu, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Please listen to Taurus by Spirit, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You by Joan Baez/Ann Breden, Dazed and Confused by Jake Holmes, and Black Mountain Side by Bert Jansch.
- codyman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Valhalla, I/They am/are coming!
- RichG13, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4and yet you could fill pages and pages of where the Stones and (not by choice) the Beatles songs were used for marketing crap... Cadillac didn't get the whole song any way, just bits of it
- zeejay, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Oh, nobody... just enough people to buy 3 billion songs.
- Sam334, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3How did the record company screw them over? Zeppelin opened for many bands in that list gardnmi listed. If you listen to the original version of the songs....well, let's just say you'll be shocked. Especially the original "Dazed and Confused" and "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You." The versions that existed years before Led Zeppelin's I album are practically identical. This doesn't discredit the great guitar and vocals, but it's still a bummer when you first find out.
- 5wallace, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The Beatles are great, but they are not a rock band. The Beatles are the greatest band ever, but Zeppelin is the greatest Hard Rock band ever.
- wethackrey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Covering a song is fine AS LONG AS YOU CREDIT THE WRITER. The writer or his assigns should receive royalties through ASCAP or BMI. Renaming a song for the purpose of not crediting the writer so that you get all of the royalties is theft, pure and simple. This is why it's especially disingenuous for Led Zeppelin to be so paranoid about people stealing their music. Frankly, distributing their stolen songs through a new channel like downloads may result in them having to shell out more money to the writers they stole from.
- haniel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You give yourself too much credit
- pinchduck, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Nice List! I love the Zep, but there is no question that they ripped off a lot of other folks. I don't that I will buy the iTunes music, as I've already ripped all my CDs.
- snurfle, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5iTunes? They've been on LimeWire for YEARS!
- Snorglorf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They're not stolen - they're rearrangements of covers. Many popular music artists do this with classical chord progression, so why is it not okay for Led Zeppelin to be playing the blues? Putting your own spin on songs you like is great, if your band members are as talented as Led Zeppelin.
- astrotrain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You are true about that....iTunes is awful quality. Thats how they can claim they can fit thousands of songs on their iPod, because they sample their music at a low 128 kbps,. Apple format, Mp3 format, WMA format, 128 kbps is still lousy rate to sample anything at.
- Anubis2051, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2good news, do you think ac/dc could be next?
- Snorglorf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2OiNKers unite
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Ronnie james dio era sabbath, while short, yielded albums that were greater than most of the ozzy era recordings, and certainly rocked a lot harder.
Never say die and technical ecstasy were both ***** albums, sabotage had 2 good songs with the rest being god awful filler. There was also a lot of stuff that just wasnt that great on sabbath bloody sabbath or vol 4. The first three albums for ozzy sabbath were the best, the rest was a gradual decline. Dio injected a lot of life into a band that by that point had been burnt out for a very long time. Very little, if any, of the material on the two studio albums he did with them could even remotely be considered "filler" - jd72277, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2my, this comment would have meant something back in 1999 when the scene hipsters really did get into Led Zep. By the way is that Skanadian as in ***** SKA???
- sLydE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Amen
- geehossiphats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Me finally still not caring anything about iScrewedYou
- Skanadian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2*****. Now all the scene emo hipsters will be listening to Zeppelin. Way to go Apple.
- RichG13, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Because you touch yourself at night.
