lol. - olddirtycr, on 10/27/2007, -2/+64These kind of applications don't really help the fight for internet radio :/... Especially since it is on the verge of obliteration with the new licensing laws or whatever ***** congress passed.
- terrortwilight, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20Last.fm is such an awesome site. My music taste is getting diverse every day, and more than anything the site's all about keeping track of the gig dates...
- anteyekon4myst, on 10/27/2007, -2/+19I like the application, but oldirtycr is right. This is a bad time for this sort of app to come out. Hopefully, Congress is still too hung up trying to figure out the tubes metaphor to notice. Peace.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+19This comment system is totally *****
- smkelly, on 10/27/2007, -2/+13That is why it makes me sad when applications like these come along with the potential to threaten the very open and cool nature of last.fm and Pandora. Granted Pandora isn't as open, but they do work with companies like Logitech to make it work on my Squeezebox.
People, please just buy your freaking music and don't make last.fm have to either remove music or switch to a DRM'd or proprietary stream format. I like it being interoperable with everything and open. - Bonekhan, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Very nice work... Though I recall a Pandora ripper that just about accomplished the same thing--however for some odd reason it stopped working almost a week after it launched, I think Pandora caught on and did something about it.
- superyounan1, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11this is one of the reasons they're trying to pass a law to charge internet radio stations so much money per song that they'll almost all, except for the most profitable, to shut down.
now i've downloaded plenty of free music in my day, but its time for us to grow up and pay for the music we love and want to keep. If music is too expensive, then you show the companies what you want by putting your money to vote and voice your opinions with your dollars by buying music that is priced fairly.
you all know its not the radio station's intention for you to automatically download and tag their entire collection, and they're gonna have to stop providing you that service if they can't argue to the law makers that they're fundamentally the same as over-the-air radio. You simply can't rip music off the air waves with the same quality and ease, so they're gonna have a hard time explaining themselves. - desqjockey, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8The anti-net radio crowd used this as an argument for charging so much for the royalty fee. I thought they were making ***** up. Really, if you hear it once and you want the song, buy them or steal them like a normal person. Nobody needs a hard disk full of low quality songs.
buried - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Nice here we go
http://thelastripper.googlecode.com/files/thelastripper_1.0.2-1_all.deb - alexweej, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Don't pick on Last.fm. They are one of the coolest, most open and down-with-it companies out there. They don't use DRM, but that's not a reason to abuse it. Buried.
- BlackMagic2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Way to go digg, if people really needed this they could search for it, this only hits these sites, and I for one love last.fm... bastards.
- adolfojp, on 10/11/2007, -6/+10Why do I find this useful?
I like to listen to the music before buying it. It is like trying on a new pair of pants or taking a car for a test drive. However, I cannot get a good taste of a song just by hearing it once, or by hearing just a fragment from it.
So, I rip the low quality songs, learn which ones I like and then buy the records. Everybody wins. - Brakamow, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Did anyone else see "The LA Stripper" when they first looked at the URL or am I just lonely?
Blast! fkr3 is lonely, too... Beat me to it. - ohsin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4yup pandorajar it was called.Pandora guys were fast to change there ways :). btw i think anything below 160 kbps is not worth saving :P.
- GleepGlop2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4They just patched the last.fm client: I wonder if this still works. I guess some IDIOT who isn't aware of the dire state of internet radio can find out...
- terrortwilight, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I can't even get it to run on my PC...
- Renejos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2If you have problems try to contact us, or you could check out our issues site http://code.google.com/p/thelastripper/issues/list.
At this point we know that the windows version might be a little buggy, but we are working on it. :)

TheLastRipper Team - jopsen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Last.fm is located in UK, not in US... so their politicians aren't bought so easily :)
TheLastRipper was never meant to fight for internet radio, it was originally a product for a technology project in school about copyright and multimedia as a luxury...
//Regards Jonas F. Jensen
- Developer of TheLastRipper... :) - mxcl, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Of course it's not legal you idiot.
- yfph, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Why would anyone like to keep around low bitrate rips that lastfm continually puts up? It would be like pulling teeth if I had to listen to them in private. I think they serve an excellent purpose when it comes to previewing unknown bands that one might like on there. I don't see the reason for the unnecessary hassle in ripping them to one's HD. If you want proper rips, there are a ton of blogs and forums, not to mention p2p options, that are able to satiate your musiclust.
- jacobsor, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3No. Using this is copyright infringement.
- maherjabr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I just like the fact that their page title is a Jack the Ripper quote.
- Lane, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2would that really stop you?
- Amablue, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"You simply can't rip music off the air waves with the same quality and ease, so they're gonna have a hard time explaining themselves."
With HD radio, getting high quality rips will be easy as pie very soon. - cyclopsface, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3did anyone get this working? I can't on my mac....
- JoeViturbo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I can't get this to work on my PC
- krugerpr0n, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yeah been using it for a couple of days crashes occasionally im running vista might be summat to do with that
- decay, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I love the internet.
- bdbr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@yfph: "Why would anyone like to keep around low bitrate rips that lastfm continually puts up?"
To listen to it a few times and see if we like them. To decide if we want to buy them. Some of us actually buy music, but we want to know if we like it before we buy it. Record companies want you to buy it first, then decide if you like it. If any other business worked that way, they'd be hurting too. - krelian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yeah right.
- bking, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Not working on either of my laptops. I'm disappointed.
- terrortwilight, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I was concerned about the quality problem as well, maybe it's not a good idea after all. Previewing unknown bands, yes that's exactly what last.fm's for. Anyway it's always been a pet peeve of mine that some people just couldn't be bothered to check bitrate when they're downloading songs... :-(
- Renejos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0It isn't sure the app will work under vista, we havn't checked but we are working on the next version, and there might hopefully be a vista version coming.
-
TheLastRipper Team - convergent, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4I'm like that too, except that I get the higher quality music, and don't buy the records.
- tinny112, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Don't you mean you CANT care less?
- Toast1185, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Yeah pandora was lazy with their streaming. The file came in one lump to a certain temporary file, which Pandorajar simply made a copy of elsewhere. They quickly split the files and changed how they streamed the music. I am not sure if lastfm is doing similar things and that this app will suffer a similar death though.
- fluchtpunkt, on 02/13/2009, -0/+0LFMPlayer - Last.FM Ripper and much more..

http://www.indiji.com/lfmplayer.html - j2p2f2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Its a pretty nice program and a great concept. I very much agree with superyounan1 and yfph. The quality isnt all that great, but its worth the download just to check it out.
- Renejos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0The app should work on Macintosh OSX 10.4 with x11 installed, but at this point it is very buggy, we know, we have not been able to work on this project for a long time, but we hope to release a version 1.0.0 for the mac and hopefully a 2.0.0 for the linux and Windows systems.

TheLastRipper Team - darkhero, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Buggy software! It feazes alot!

Enjoy !

http://download-top-ringtones.com/motorola/ - linuxps2, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1yes but last.fm doesn't really have anything to lose from the use of this app, all they do is link you to the amazon site to purchase the music, plus ALOT of the songs on last.fm are full length or free to download anyway, at least the lesser known artists music that is
- dbking, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1lol u own a mac? sucker
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Often, I can't find the music I hear on Last.fm on any store. Hell I can't even find the composer's site!
- FireForEffect47, on 10/11/2007, -4/+0Great, but is there any way to download from similar artists streams?
- GetTheGirl, on 10/11/2007, -4/+0need a ripper for http://seeqpod.com too
- Piccolo9833, on 10/11/2007, -4/+0Does the program work? Has it been confirmed?
- BlackAle, on 10/11/2007, -8/+2god knows why you'd need this, either buy the music, or just find it elsewhere, i.e oink, public torrents, usenet, etc...
