- psevium, on 11/11/2007, -2/+21That's cool aside from the fact this happened a while ago
http://digg.com/tech_news/Last_fm_does_Audio_Finge ... - explnx, on 04/27/2009, -0/+18Heh. I remember back before Audioscrobbler was called Last.fm, and everyone was getting in huge arguments anout whether we should redirect O-zone to Ozone and crap like that. Old times.
- maexus, on 11/11/2007, -1/+12It's about time someone created a fix for this issue. Last.fm is a mess of mislabelled tracks
- MeThePeople, on 11/10/2007, -0/+11unless you renamed every one of your mp3s to "i downloaded this illegally and plan to upload it to many more" how are they supposed to know what you paid for
- Phyltre, on 11/10/2007, -0/+6The funny part is, long ago there was a fix. It was like wikipedia. But people argued, so things were tied down to keep edit wars to a minimum. Years later, we're still working on a solution, yay!
- klaruz, on 11/10/2007, -0/+3If you went to the page you linked to, you'd see the press release on the right that says they are in fact sharing data with last.fm.
- Jennica, on 11/13/2007, -1/+4I hate it when people don't have their music tagged. I have 12000+ mp3s that are correctly tagged and put in folders by artist > album
it's so easy. - DarkPrince11, on 11/10/2007, -0/+2Songs are an average of .99 cents. Say you get a whole album for $15. An album is roughly 120 MB. 120 / 1000 = .12 gigs. So for every . 12 gigs of music, you roughly pay $15. So if we divide .12 gigs into 100 gigs (100 / .12) = 833 times. 833 * 15 = $12,500. On basis, $12,500 for 100 gigabytes of music. Now, lets say I buy an album a week (I put $15 aside each week to buy an album). 52 Weeks in a year, so I'd spending only $780 a year. Now, $12,500 / $780 = 16 years. It would take 16 years to build up 100 gigabytes of music if I bought an album a week at $15; which would cost me around $12,500 in total and $780 in a year. And if you can't afford to spend $15 a week, than you need a job change; or a job in general.
- polis74, on 03/09/2008, -0/+1True, but do the math on a music collection that is over 100 gigabytes. There aren't enough people with incomes that high out there.
http://www.mp3ultima.com - mxcl, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1Soon, yes.
- plebiscite, on 11/10/2007, -0/+1So can I use the data they have collected to automatically clean up my own music library? Automatically fill in year, genre ect?
- JoeRamboUK, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Hopefully they will take this somewhere usefull.
- energizerrabbit, on 11/10/2007, -1/+2None.
- McoreD, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1I wished more people were like you. If you are using iTunes you will like this - it is an add-on checking for missing tags. http://itsfv.sourceforge.net/
I will try to get 100% one day. I am at 98% of my music tag complete. - on9star, on 11/10/2007, -0/+1misspellings right thur!
- maexus, on 11/10/2007, -0/+1Exactly. I have to switch between discogs, musicbrainz and wikipedia because most times, they all have a slightly different variation on the tag info. I know it's not going to happen but I would really love an open resource where they identify tracks using audio signitures for use in mediaplayers and rippers. Then again, I'm very anal about the tags on my music.
- mxcl, on 11/12/2007, -0/+1We've fixed an awful lot of bugs in the last few releases.
- BLKMGK, on 11/11/2007, -3/+3So, if they scan a couple hundred gig music collection what are the chances I'll get a knock on the door?
- zonk3r, on 11/11/2007, -2/+1Anyone else think that last.fm is a buggy mess? I've had nothing but trouble with that program.
- Catchwa, on 11/10/2007, -3/+2MusicBrainz has been doing this for a while. Last.fm should collaborate with them.
http://musicbrainz.org/ - zombies187, on 11/10/2007, -2/+1Does it work now?
- Phyltre, on 11/10/2007, -3/+1True, but do the math on a music collection that is over 100 gigabytes. There aren't enough people with incomes that high out there.
- NichowA, on 11/10/2007, -2/+0This is a good idea, but their implementation sucks, at least it did when it first came out. The fingerprinting software couldn't be minimized and instead of doing the work on your PC and then uploading the results, it seems to upload the metadata one song at a time to the last.fm servers and won't go to the next song until it analyzes the first. So when they were getting a lot of traffic it would just hang, and I never did get it to run very fast at all. Sorry, but I'm not going to leave your window sitting on my desktop for a week while you analyze the metadata for 16000 mp3s.

- explnx, on 04/27/2009, -5/+1A 24 reference? Really?
- getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -6/+2God damnit, wrong thread, digg this down.
- paul9290, on 11/10/2007, -7/+2Last.FM is so cool! Anyone know of other sites like it? Anyone try http://Anywhere.FM or http://Sleep.FM? I hear they are similar
- HastyBoom, on 11/10/2007, -6/+1Lame. Who cares. Total waste of time and resources.
- getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -13/+1Why did none of those injured vets spit in his face, or did they take those pics down?
- prophet3point0, on 11/10/2007, -16/+2so where is last fm located? cyprus?
