- Grandpohbah, on 06/18/2008, -17/+169I never thought these words would ever come out of my mouth, "Kid Rock Kicks Ass!"
I feel dirty.
Artist don't get paid from record sales... they get their money from live shows. All this crap about downloading music hurting artists is pure crap. - ivan423, on 06/19/2008, -7/+148I don't need Kid Rock to tell me to download music illegally. I have been doing it for years.
- perhapsimcrazy, on 06/19/2008, -8/+127I love how everyone complains about how artists don't embrace P2P and getting music for free, and when finally someone does who you really wouldn't expect it from, his music and his style isn't good enough.
Pretty typical for this website, actually. - luke16, on 06/19/2008, -7/+124"Bawitdaba da bang a dang diggy diggy diggy said the boogy said up jump the boogy" - Kid Rock
- pinoylife, on 06/19/2008, -5/+99"I don't steal things," he told the BBC. "I'm rich."
bastard. - inactive, on 06/18/2008, -25/+110Next step: steal Kid Rock tickets. Wait. That would presume they were worth stealing.
- smacksaw, on 06/19/2008, -4/+72He is one hell of a strange Republican, I'll give him that.
- shutaro, on 06/19/2008, -1/+61Truer words were never spoken...
- notman, on 06/19/2008, -3/+43I love how this is (at least) the second time this story has appeared and it still is filled with people feeling the need to rip on Kid Rock's music. If you don't like the guy, then why click and read articles that are clearly about him?
I like Kid. He doesn't whine and act like an emo dickweed like many digg fans listen to. - sgiffy, on 06/19/2008, -6/+45No I demand he sell his music though an established medium. Why should he get to control the way his music is distributed?
- Panzwhore, on 06/19/2008, -23/+59Like anyone would pay for Kid Rock's music
- fluidfoundation, on 06/18/2008, -26/+56Kid Rock: We've been boycotting you for years. What do you think of that, cowboy?
- BoneheadFarker, on 06/19/2008, -0/+27Wow...that makes even less sense reading it then it did hearing it...
- yowhat2002, on 06/19/2008, -6/+26Just because you dont like Kid Rock doesnt mean what he's doing isnt a good thing.
- kingmanic, on 06/19/2008, -5/+24...I want to ***** you like a farm animal,
I want to feel you from inside a mobile home.
I want to ***** you like a farm animal,
My dirty mullet is flawed,
You get me closer to God... - omelette, on 06/19/2008, -0/+16In the same conversation Kid Rock also went on to say "I don't mind people stealing my music, that's fine. But I think they should steal everything. You know how much money the oil companies have? If you need some gas, just go fill your tank off and drive off, they're not going to miss it." So if you were waiting on a green light for stealing gas, you're good now.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7459796.s ... - wynja, on 06/19/2008, -2/+18Mmm, no, your quote makes no sense. You attempted rebranding of the famous quote, "Even a stopped clock gives the right time twice a day," is busted.
- pianomahnn, on 06/19/2008, -0/+13Well, sort of. The money that comes from record sales goes into such things as studios, equipment, production costs. Granted, I don't think the record labels need $15 per CD to cover those costs, and surely not $.99/song via legit online methods. It's not as though the artists get zero benefit from people purchasing the albums. It's also not as hurtful as the recording companies are presenting.
- cawpin, on 06/19/2008, -3/+16Untalented? He's one of the MOST talented performers out there. He can play every instrument on his stage, that isn't untalented.
- PhillyMJS, on 06/19/2008, -2/+14The man married Pam Anderson, so we already know he has questionable judgment.
- DRUNKSLAMCHEST, on 06/19/2008, -14/+25I've never felt more justified in using iTunes.
- inactive, on 06/19/2008, -1/+12Your small new media venture is destined to fail if Kid Rock is your dream interview.
- anarchyx34, on 06/19/2008, -1/+10God please no....please....
- kipmartin, on 06/19/2008, -0/+8the money usually goes in large part to the writers, who are also getting majorly poked in the ass by the labels. when you steal music, it doesnt hurt Kid Rock, but it does take money away from songwriters. i personally hate the record industry but i feel bad for the songwriters. it isnt as easy to get big money for writing as it used to be. the songwriters pay huge percentages and work for free for years.
wish there was a way to tell Sony to stick it without hurting me and my songwriter friends (im a BMI writer with about $10k coming in every year). and before you bury me, try to be fair and let us all know how i should be compensated and why its alright to take money from writers? we are the good guys and we are getting screwed from both ends.
and yeah, Kid Rock is a pinhead. but he did tag Pamela. so he has that going for him. - Shatfacedpanda, on 06/19/2008, -2/+10Great artist and a stand up guy, he always says what he thinks and doesn't "blow" the Corporate douche bags to earn an extra penny and he is not a money grubbing rich prick.
- mitgib, on 06/19/2008, -1/+8I dunno, there is a place for it, as someone may be too shy to preform their work for others, but are very talented writers. I can't think of any examples, but surely it can happen. The writer may also lack any talent to preform their work, again, I can't think of an example, and there are plenty of signed acts that lack talent as well, but it could happen.
- dafragsta, on 06/19/2008, -1/+8You guys missed the point. You may not LIKE Kid Rock but that's not requisite for what he's doing to make any sense. I dig a few of his songs, but I don't go out of my way to listen to Kid Rock. I think he might be aware of that. I think his point is that he'd like people to be familiar with his music so that they WANT to go see him live. I'm not gonna line up to buy Kid Rock tickets, but I also won't download the album. The bone-headed jock rock crowd might fall back into love with him again if they get to hear the album, that's the point. He wants HIS fans to hear it, not the people who never liked his music.
- wellyuk, on 06/19/2008, -2/+9That's a very strange idea you have. Some of the best performers in the world never wrote their own music. Some of the best composers in the world never performed their own music.
If your idea was the case, the world would be without much of the best music ever written and composed.
Buried. - krakelohm, on 06/19/2008, -0/+7Didn't get Hep C.
- linuxpenguin, on 06/19/2008, -0/+7Why does your not being rich mean that he can't encourage people to download his music for free?
Also, I don't think your work was mentioned in the article at all. - jpole1, on 06/19/2008, -7/+13Personally I prefer to listen to music that is played and written by the same person...
I think the music industry would be better off without people whose only job is to write songs for others. - madk, on 06/19/2008, -0/+6I love how people are bashing him because he isn't Radiohead or NIN. Isn't this what you wanted? More major artists fighting for your cause. Oh I get it..it doesn't affect you personally because you aren't into his music so you don't care. Lame.
/not a kid rock fan in any way shape or form - inactive, on 06/19/2008, -0/+5I hate iTunes. Not the music store, the crappy application.
- Jeffler, on 06/19/2008, -0/+5Yeah, like I'm gonna trust a guy who can't afford his own domain name...not that I'd trust you anyway.
- benecere, on 06/19/2008, -0/+5FTA: ""I don't mind people stealing my music, that's fine. But I think they should steal everything. You know how much money the oil companies have? If you need some gas, just go fill your tank (up) and drive off, they're not going to miss it."
He doesn't really help much, since he actually strengthens the " it's just the same as shoplifting" misconception; then, he fans the fire by telling people to go on and steal things.
I think I'd prefer he speak for the other side. - leerayIG88, on 06/19/2008, -0/+5*shakes fist at the clouds*
- inactive, on 06/19/2008, -0/+5setting up a studio is not that expensive. having douche bag "Talent Manager", Lawyers, Assistance, Publicist and other ***** douche bags that the music industry is filed with is whats eating into their profits. the music industry needs to forget its days of excess and become a lean mean machine that cares more about making music rather then snort coke off of a hookers ass.
- corr, on 06/19/2008, -12/+17Like his music or not, this idea of his is awesome.
- mooseofshadows, on 06/19/2008, -0/+5That's what she said.
Yeah, she sings kid rock during sex. It's kind of awkward. - MattB123, on 06/19/2008, -1/+6I hear ya, man. I didn't like Kid Rock when he first hit it big with that "I'm a Cowboy" song, but some of his lesser-known stuff is kind of fun and definitely funny. I consider it a guilty pleasure. While maybe not classically "good" I still enjoy it. Is that so wrong? I'm not quite 40 BTW.
And allisonaxe, there was a lot of good music from those decades, but enjoying a little redneck rap doesn't make that go away. I only caught the 70's onward (as it happened anyway) and I think KR's musical sensibilities were heavily influenced by a lot of the same music I listened to as a kid (in the same part of the country as him - maybe we both listened to WRIF back then). It's a fusion of old and new that doesn't always work, but some of it is enjoyable for me. - PawnsOfJoshua, on 06/19/2008, -1/+6It is an absolute wonder that the record labels don't just get a bunch of artists that aren't popular with digg.com users to advocate piracy - hell all of digg would be in an uproar and rush like flaming idiots over to Virgin to legitimately buy up music to avoid association with Kid Rock or Eminem, etc. Like the Kid or not, this is one of the coolest statements I've ever read from any recording artist - too bad there are so many dickweeds on this site.
- awtripp, on 06/19/2008, -0/+5He is just terrible at composition.
- wellyuk, on 06/19/2008, -1/+6Why do you think it is *****? Curious about your experience with it. I personally think it's as good an music playing software as I've ever used. It's expandable through apple script (with thousands of useful scripts out there), music management is versatile and overall it just works as intended. What in particular do you not like about it?
- awtripp, on 06/19/2008, -1/+6Limp Bizkit, and I can see where the confusion comes in, they're both talentless hacks when it comes to composition.
- SocialPoison, on 06/19/2008, -0/+5Unsigned bands don't need a label. They need publicity.
- Owned1Up, on 06/19/2008, -0/+4Don't worry, no one even wants your work.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -3/+7Telling people to go download your music for free has become the new publicity stunt for artists. Yeah, I'm really sure the artists don't care in the least about money made on CD sales anymore, they love putting tons of time into making CDs to get nothing from them.
Even if the artist doesn't care, guess who does? The label. And don't give me the BS about the artists not needing the label, go tell that to the thousands of unsigned bands who would love to get signed. All this pro-piracy stuff is such crap and the pirates eat it right up. - cthellis, on 06/19/2008, -0/+4I don't buy music either, but I get a ton of free content through iTunes, and it's by far the easiest iPod and podcast manager, even if it's missing a few features I'd like.
It's not svelte, but you can disable the parts of it you don't want anyway. And no one with a computer that was modern in 2002 gives a rat's ass about the minor hard drive or memory space it takes up.
Process creep is a real problem on Windows, but unfortunately 90% of software on the platform does it, so... You sound like someone who could easily manage it in 10 seconds, so why give a rat's ass? - brstilson, on 06/19/2008, -1/+4Kid Rock is going to have to pay me to listen to his music voluntarily.
- akilleen, on 06/19/2008, -0/+3Damn, I don't like Kid Rock either but give him a little credit. I have a feeling that more and more artists will be "jumping on the NIN/Radiohead bandwagon", and that is a good thing. In this exodus of artists, there are going to be some crappy ones. It doesn't mean that they automatically become good, they just chose to go around the RIAA. This should be applauded.
