- Tomboys, on 07/23/2008, -9/+162whoever wrote that article is a douche.
- TheOtherOne135, on 07/23/2008, -1/+101"it's not what good girls do" is less a judgment of people who do it than a refrain of what a "good Christian girl" (which she was in her previous career as a Christian pop singer) has been told all her life.
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -7/+104"You're So Gay" is actually bashing metrosexuals...
"I Kissed a Girl" may have some line about "it's not what good girls do"
...but the meaning of that line is ultimately saying "it's sexy for me to kiss a girl"
basically encouraging lesbianism.
whoever wrote that article is a complete idiot just like a lot of idiots who think any reference
to a minority is racist. last time i checked it's not really racist even if you disagree with one's
lifestyle. - floridiot2, on 07/23/2008, -10/+88This is gay.
- nafai, on 07/23/2008, -5/+62I am OUTRAGED at these homophobic lyrics! All I can say is people should boyco...
Ah who am I kidding? Never heard of Katy Perry, it's just a ***** song and stop taking everything so seriously. - darthsand, on 07/23/2008, -7/+63i think its hot...
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -2/+50Katy grew up in a religious family and began her career as a Chritian musician. She received good reviews, but she realized she'd never make it big unless she changed her image. Now that she trashes her Christian upbringing, sings about homosexuality, and is dating a black guy, the media can't get enough of her.
- KolosoK, on 07/24/2008, -5/+39I really hate the song... It's a publicity stunt ("Hey, look at me! I'm a girl who kisses other girls!")... I guess it's "smart" in that it may increase sales or downloads or whatever.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -1/+34brb, jacking off to the girl in the pink dress
- oyourmom, on 07/24/2008, -3/+31I seriously think a troll wrote this article.
- Firespray1138, on 07/24/2008, -3/+30Who the ***** is Kate Perry?
- GalacticRerun, on 07/23/2008, -0/+23Don't covers usually have the same lyrics?
- LilJimmyNordin, on 07/24/2008, -5/+27I don't understand how people who somehow got used to having a ***** in their ass consider THIS a discomfort they can't bear. My best friend is gay, and we both agree that it's time the militant homosexual groups lightened up something besides the tips of their hair.
- assbeard, on 07/24/2008, -1/+18exactly. I see the song more as a "coming out" of sorts for her. Not coming out of the closet, but being her own person, not some brainwashed daughter of ministers. She's making her own decisions and mocking the hypocritical beliefs of "good christians"
- blurrie, on 07/24/2008, -2/+19i kissed a girl is just chiming into the "cool" factor that people like tila tequila have tapped into w/ the "it's cool" to be "bi." even though you're not... you're just doing it b/c you think the douche dude's w/ the tribal tats and the frat hoodies on think you'll be totally hot if you do.. in actuality you make yourself out to be a drunk cum dumpster.
- snea, on 07/23/2008, -7/+24I'm glad that so for my exposure to this song has been minimal.
- rpong1981, on 07/23/2008, -1/+19Uhhh the only thing I hear in common is the word "kiss" and the word "girl". Otherwise completely different songs with a different tempo, rhythm, and hook.
- lydecker, on 07/24/2008, -1/+17""You're So Gay" is actually bashing metrosexuals..."
Correct, or else the full line wouldn't be "you're so gay and you don't even like boys." - innocentsinner, on 07/24/2008, -0/+16Tatu did it better.
Mmm, Russian accents. - caitylovesyouu, on 07/24/2008, -1/+16While I'm not a fan of the song, I think it is being taken far too literally. Its a stupid bar song. I doubt she will ever be successful after this, anyway. Its the double standard we are all familiar with. A guy who sings a song about kissing another guy is taken as "gay", while Katy Perry has the #1 downloaded song on iTunes. Its just like the typical double standard where men are congratulated on how many women they sleep with while promiscuous women tend to be regarded as sluts.
- innocentsinner, on 07/24/2008, -0/+15Tada!
- alkajazz, on 07/24/2008, -2/+15WHO CARES
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -2/+14What about the Jill Sobule song that came out about 13 years ago?
- datagod, on 07/24/2008, -1/+13Boring trash...
- PhoenixReborn, on 07/24/2008, -1/+12I Kissed A Girl isn't supporting real lesbianism. It's basically saying being gay is just innocent experimentation by drunk people. "Ain't no big deal, it's innocent" "It doesn't matter/You're my experimental game/Just human nature" "I got so brave, drink in hand/Lost my discretion"
- linuxpenguin, on 07/24/2008, -2/+13Just to see what the hell they were talking about I looked her up on YouTube. . . I don't see how these songs are bashing gays at all. "I Kissed A Girl" isn't bashing anyone at all, and "Ur So Gay" seems to be bashing emos with the MySpace and the lyric mentioning how the guy thinks no one understands him, and some of the other stuff.
It never was uncool to make fun of emos - and frankly, I'm glad someone in the music scene agrees with my assertion that emos are gay. They wear makeup, they dress in girl pants. . . - dragon76, on 07/24/2008, -2/+13I don't think there's anything wrong with Ur So Gay or I Kissed A Girl. I think they're both good songs and I am gay. What REALLY pisses me off is how offensive "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" was, and even straight people think it's offensive, and critics were saying how Gay positive it was, which was a bunch of *****. Then a Gay-positve artist like Katy Perry comes to the scene and they say she's offensive.
- themann, on 07/24/2008, -2/+12yeah i have to say as a gay male ... this article is full of crap ...
i love the song "I Kissed a Girl" ... and i never till i read this article for a moment thought it was anti gay ... if any thing i thought it was more pro gay as she does say how she likes it and how it felt so right
the line "It's not what, good girls do, Not how they should behave" is more a stab at societies views on homosexual relationships which tend to believe that they are not normal and not how people "should" behave ...
but in the words of Chief Wiggum: "if it feels good, do it. " - larryjr88, on 07/24/2008, -2/+11I think the media has gotten to the point where they purposely write exactly the opposite of the truth simply for attention.
- cquinnd, on 07/24/2008, -0/+9It's like being anti-gun but having a collection of revolvers.
- feliks2, on 07/24/2008, -2/+10No, its lesbian.
- stouffer67, on 07/24/2008, -8/+16" WTF I love that song." Wow, you're probably the only one.
- ahmedb07, on 07/24/2008, -4/+11why so serious?
- diulei, on 07/24/2008, -0/+7Agreed. Seems like a cheap gimmick to get the song stuck in people's heads.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -0/+7rac*ism: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
prej*u*dice: an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics
Not for you, hmd - just pointing this out so people can understand how these two definitions are different (since so many people seem to always get them confused). - junsumoney, on 07/24/2008, -4/+11This is silly. "Ur so Gay" and "I Kissed a Girl" isn't bashing gays. "Ur so Gay" is bashing pretentious douchebags who wear guy-liners and skinny jeans, clutching Macbeth and Starbucks in both hands. And "I Kissed a Girl" is just a story of a girl getting drunk and kissing a girl, (ie. all teenage parties).
- HaSatan, on 07/24/2008, -3/+10Homosexuals are gay
- clickwir, on 07/24/2008, -4/+11Dear Gays, you of all people should know that you cannot and will not please everyone all the time. There will be "unfriendly" things. It's called life. Build a bridge and get over it.
Sincerely,
Everybody else - nobodyman, on 07/24/2008, -1/+7What if you had said "What's wrong about being anti-black but pro-jew"? If you are fine with with female homosexuality and against male homosexuality, guess what: you're still a bigot.
- ahmedb07, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6its just you.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6I think we are over-analyzing what is supposed to be a song to make money.
- 0Xonox0, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6lol I don't know the song, but I get the feeling that somebody is missing satire here.
- teh_techie, on 07/24/2008, -1/+7It's number one based on radio airplay. Charts aren't based on what people like, they're based on what gets shoved down peoples throats.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. Listening to this for the first time it was obviously not meant to be hard on homosexuals (lesbians in particular, I guess) - she's saying that she knows that it's supposed to be wrong, but she likes it anyway. What's offensive about that?
Plus, the music is pretty catchy. - xtinamo, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5I work at a gym and my coworker blasts this song all day long. I have to make a conscious effort to keep myself from singing it so people don't think I'm a lesbian, now that it's cool and all.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -2/+7What!? Does the writer have any idea how many girls have kissed thanks to this song? Trust me, it's NOT gay unfriendly at all. I have a gay friend who can even verify this. Hang on a sec, I'll go ask him.
Yep, it's gay friendly, confirmed by my gay friend. - Burn, on 07/24/2008, -0/+5I completely agree, that double standard is *****.
My rule is that if my gf gets to kiss another hot girl when drunk then I get to kiss that same girl. - maximumsteve1, on 07/24/2008, -2/+7lol, digg has been mainstream for over a year. I remember the days in '05 when it was just tech and the comments were actually insightful instead of stupid one-liners but it wasn't snooty like slashdot. I long for the days...

"It's not what good girls do"... the meaning of that line is ultimately saying "it's sexy for me to kiss a girl" basically encouraging lesbianism.
[/quote]
I think the take home message of that quote is difficult to take in context without the rest of the line. Fortunately, a quick google search shows that the actual context was that social prejudice and conformity require that "good" people not partake in actions which ultimately bring them pleasure, and that seems contradictory to her... Though a quick look at basic social constructs will show you that the masses of the western world be put'n personal sacrifice up on a pedestal.
While I do think that the song is promoting sexual exploration for the sake of discovering true personal happiness, I don't think the song is meant to promote lesbianism. I think the message is that today's subculture tries to make a cheap buck by pissing on perfectly legitimate sexual preferences via raising unnecessary controversy; hence pulling attention towards otherwise mediocre "art" (if it can so be called), and selling useless crap like the junk from Katy Perry's failed artist producers.
