- techfish, on 10/10/2007, -33/+85Correction: Just "Two Black Guys Selling a Lot of 'BAD' Records"
- xvertigox, on 10/10/2007, -6/+41Buried for using 'Fitty' in the title. Oh, and for the actual article too.
- FishHammer, on 10/10/2007, -6/+34am I the only one who doesn't care in the least bit?
- GeneralFailure0, on 10/10/2007, -5/+30"'Cuz it isn't about the record sales," he said. "I'd rather sell, you know, 500,000 records to people who listen to them every single day of their life than a million records to people who didn't listen at all."
Who listens to the same album every day of their life? Especially a Kanye West Album. Also, why would a million people buy an album and not listen to it? I'm beginning to fear Kanye West does not always think before he speaks. - PotatoFro, on 10/10/2007, -17/+39i haven't heard Fitty's, but Kanye's new record is prettttyyyyy preettttyyyyy prettttyyy good.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17Anyone who actually bought into that "feud" is a complete moron.
- dracostimpy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17I hereby present you with the Serious Cat award of the day:
http://www.digg.com/users/dracostimpy/gallery/3533 ... - adooga, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Ever heard of "Beatles vs Stones"?
or "Oasis vs Blur"?
This has been done lots of time over the years, it's one of the oldest tricks in the music marketing handbook. - Waterproof, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16They're both *****. Colour doesn't matter at all, the fact that their music sucks does.
- Buckiller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I was mad when they were quoting Kanye with "Cuz" instead of " 'Cause"
- dtraneighty8, on 10/07/2008, -1/+13Who is this "they" that Kanye is referring to? Wasn't 50 Cent the one that started it?
- ronmexico, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15You had me then you lost me.
- xpose, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14xvertigox hates black people.
- digggggggggggg, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11I love the latent racism that hangs over every digg story that has anything to do with hip hop.
- bigtizzle, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8You're just now beginning to fear that?
- Hatefull, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7white folks, duh, they always "want the black guys to be up against each other, about to shoot each other".
/sarcasm - FishHammer, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10well considering it took me all of 5 seconds to click>post, yeah thats pretty much what happened
- Matt174e, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6God dammit! I never see it coming.
- GeneralFailure0, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7If comments on Digg had to be positive, most of them wouldn't be there, including yours. (Telling someone to shut the ***** up doesn't count as constructive criticism.) Regardless of whether you agree, he is entitled to his opinion, and it was funny.
- solarbeat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8So you not only came in here, but also took the time to post a comment -- just to tell us that you don't care?
- S2ThaNizzle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8You guys can say whatever you want about either of those two's music, since I doubt most of you even bother to listen to them, but being able to sell over 950k in a week is pretty damn impressive no matter how you spin it, especially nowadays.
- ButterBuddha, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9"He grew up in an upper-middle-class background in Chicago. West's mother and manager, Dr. Donda West, was formerly the chairwoman of the English department at Chicago State University..."
What ever happened to street cred? - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Sorry, I tried to concentrate, but every time I tried reading the article all I could see was Kanye going, "I'm Jesus."
- strum40, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7We Don't Care, one day they're both going to be Gone anyways. Fifty Cent is the bigger idiot though, I Heard Em' Say that he was going to quit rapping if he sold less than Kanye. Kanye came out on top with the Stronger album. As far as I'm concerned they should both quit, they each have enough in the Piggy Bank to live off of. If they gave Just a Lil' bit away they could send tons of people Straight to the Bank or even just the Candy Shop.
- mbelleghem, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6"What ever happened to street cred?"
If street cred got replaced by talent, would that be a bad thing? Just sayin'... - jellygraph, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5i kind of lost respect for west after i read this... generate controversy and a publicity stunt, and then point your finger to the race card? come on... just admit it. you wanted it for $$$money$$$. race had nothing to do with it. just some idiotic justification.
- wingo123, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I don't get the new K. West single. It's basically a direct/extended sample of Daft Punk, with him rapping over it. Daft Punk is samples of disco music. Is this what passes for original music these days? I've got nothing against creative use of sampling/samplers (I do it a bit myself), but this just seems a little ridiculous. It's crazy that we've finally gotten to this level of convolution... A new hit song is a sample of a slightly older hit song which is made of samples of even older hit songs... When will it end?
- kgmurray, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It has nothing to do with black/white ... it has to do with being an ass.
- Samburger, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6" Wow, I managed to say that without typing "artist" or stereotyping black people."
*looks at the fifth word in the first sentence where it says "artist" - FyberOptic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5The fact that you're so obviously worked up over him making a humorous remark about the quality of the "music" shows that he struck a nerve. It's because most people (probably yourself included) know that 99% of all modern rap is repetitive unimaginative garbage, but they listen to it because it's what everyone else listens to. It's the current musical trend, unfortunately. If you don't listen to it and talk about how awesome it is with all your friends, then how can you ever hang out with all the other cool kids in junior high? Looks like you missed out on hair bands, bubblegum pop, boybands, etc. If someone wanted to pretend to like something trendy, at least those had a good sound to them.
- adooga, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I can tell it's hypothetical, but it's still stupid.
- adooga, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5I think I'm going to have to bury this for "hip-hop creative genius".
Hip-hop creative genius list (obviously not comprehensive):
Chuck D,
Dr Dre,
KRS-1,
Dan The Automator,
De La Soul,
Mos Def,
Mix Master Mike
Not a hip-hop creative genius list (also not comprehensive):
Kanye,
Fitty - MasterMirza, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4George Bush hates black people!
- leethefilmer, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6***** Kanye West.
- Lookie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Kayne West hates white people!
Now that he confirms it every time he opens his mouth,he can stop referring to us as 'they'. - adooga, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3No you probably don't, but I clearly remember The Gallagher brothers threatening to beat the crap out of Albarn & co, many times.
Your remark about "these black people" sort of gives you away though, doesn't it. - escheriv, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3He's pointing out that he called them artists, not "artists" (without quotes versus with quotes).
- turrican, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3What's there to analyze? All that's going on here is a little bit of marketing genius.
- KeepSwinging, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3his beats are really good, his rapping's crappy, his evil white conspiracy against all black people is ***** redicuous
- adooga, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Tracker, I just LOVE your "stupid ***** ignorant bigot" parody. Very convincing, you sound just like one of those guys. LMAO
- DrunkenDevil, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Who gives a *****?
- tidu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2LOUD NOISES!
- neodorian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Competing to see who is the biggest hack?
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Silly Kanye's laughing all the way to the bank.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3"50 Cent" isn't an artist, he's a studio creation -- an entertainment product. Kanye is a racist egomaniac. Both do karaoke over CDs in the live performances. This is likely a manufactured feud designed to sell records to a clueless fan base that just wants to fit in and be seen listening to whatever is being heavily promoted by the companies that own both the record labels and the radio/video networks.
That anyone would stoop to defend either of these clowns just shows how low the standards are for rap and R&B. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2First Santa, then the Easter Bunny...now you're saying rap/R&B music isn't real?
God, what is left to believe in anymore?
Seriously, rap and R&B are McMusic. There's just no other way to put it, and, with regard to rap, there's never been such as successful as scam in music history. By constantly hyping how "real" the music is -- how it "represents the heartbreaking reality of life on the street for too many African Americans" -- the media companies have manufactured synthetic legitimacy, from which they've profited handsomely. What's heartbreaking is that millions of young African Americans think that living the lifestyle exposed in rap lyrics is more important, more "real," than doing their homework, having a job, being a good parent or partner, or saving for the future.
Rap is a pseudo-legitimate glorification of racism, sexism, and nihilism, not a blueprint for a meaningful and successful life. There's definitely phoniness in every form of commercial music, but nothing that compares to rap. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"They want the black guys to be up against each other, about to shoot each other"
Actually we wanted the black guys to stop copying all the other black guys' beats and lyrics and to start making music worthy of listening. - adooga, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I love lamp!
- adooga, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I agree, it's damn impressive. That's a whole lot of records. Well played I must say.
- apoc06, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i know plenty of "artists".... some whom you might consider more talented than both 50 cent and kanye west combined. these "great" artists never go gold, let alone in the first week.
make no mistake, selling 600k albums in only one week is still a whole lot of cds. -
