- obijohn, on 10/12/2007, -8/+67The most current IP address I have for AllOfMp3.com is 87.242.72.76 and it does not respond to a ping, nor does a direct dns resolution of allofmp3.com. This is much worse than the "server is currently down for maintenance" message -- now there is NO SITE at all accessible.
- kid.vanguard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+46I'm sure the money you've saved from that site more than makes up for the money you lost.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+47I bet the RIAA gets it.
Those ***** >:| - Digity, on 10/12/2007, -3/+40Lovely, and I had some cash still on there. Wonder how I'll ever get that back?
- _Caboose_, on 10/12/2007, -6/+40Because the direct link doesn't work? Please, read before commenting.
- dallen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32I still had $.34 in my account. No big loss. Although, that is like 10 songs on allofmp3

they could just be updating - thoughtcancer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30Doesn't anyone else think that the "free market" and the "global economy" and all that BS only works for rich multinationals and not for the ordinary guy like us? I mean, companies buy there crap overseas and do business overseas all the friggin' time, so they can take advantage of things like cheaper prices, cheaper workers, no labor or environmental laws, etc. But when we the common folk use the EXACT SAME REASONING to buy goods from another country, all of a sudden the corporations freak out and want to shut us down. Tell me how music lovers buying products from another country is any different than when corporations do business in other countries?
It's not illegal to buy music from a store in Russia and import it here. There are no laws being broken. Allofmp3 was the PERFECT example of the Global Market working as it should. We were able to get a commodity for a cheaper price, legally, and we did so, just like when Dell can get a tech support guy in India for 3 bucks a day or whatever. When are we going to stop taking this ***** and decide whether the "free market", the "global economy", and all that other crap is for everyone, or just for the rich who can afford to buy their own politicians?
Who's with me? - fuzzmello, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31for god's sake! won't somebody think of the children?

- Bluezdood, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24Same here, if they go down, I've lost some cash, nothing more than 20 bucks but still, this sucks. F the RIAA in teh A$$!
- doctornakul, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22To the site that is down? You have to be kidding me...
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Hummmm.... http://img.allofmp3.com/img/i/flag_us_index.gif still works and so does a lot of pics hosted on there server. They must just be updating.
- pjh3000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Maybe they're just in the process of moving the site to another country (one not trying to get into the WTO).
- Terc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20Allofmp3 Explorer is still successfully

allTunes is still beta, and although it should be working too, Allofmp3 Explorer should have been mentioned in your story.
on a side note, Allofmp3 Explorer does not work as it uses parts of allofmp3.com inside the program and allofmp3.com no longer responds to any requests. Apparently it uses a different server than allTunes to verify login info. - imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17I've always wondered why the .com works, it seems it's a U.S. registered site and the registration 'could' be cut off by the U.S. possibly. They do have a Russian address, but forgot what that was.
It DOES look like the Czheh site is working fine: http://www.allofmp3.cz/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Guys, the issue with Russia and the WTO was the piracy in Russia. AllOfMp3.com is 100% legal according to russian law. The US just wanted them to enforce the copyright laws they have and shut down some of the guys selling CAMs in airports as DVDs. AllOfMp3.com is the best legal export from russia since mail order brides.
- mattvogt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I had heard rumors of this happening so I emptied my account last week. Sorry to those that didn't. I doubt their will be any refunds. Also just sad this great service is (likely) done. RIP AllOfMP3.
- sych0, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17well, if they AREN'T down, getting on the digg front page will certainly take them down.
- Aurarch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Only un-savvy dumbasses use Limewire.
- talisker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13OK PEOPLE....
#1. We have no idea what is going on yet. If this is a major server maintenance issue, then the whole thing is probably down.
#2 There are plenty of other russian mp3 sites that are still up.
#3 Because of all of the recent rumors, many people have been liquidating their accounts on ALLOFMP3 and this may have forced them to shut it all down until they can finish maintenance.
#4 This site has so much traffic that it is doubtful that they would be going under now.
---That is my 2 cents. - MxxCon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12exactly! before ringing funeral bells, maybe we should wait a bit to find out what exactly happened.
- Tufriast, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15In Mother Russia the MP3 sites download you.
I lost about ten bucks, but I'm willing to pay that for a good cause. ***** the RIAA. Allofmp3.com fought the good fight. They took on a ten million pound gorilla and went down with a prideful smile a crash of flames from their President.
I can think of no better way to go out as a website. The whole of the financial world wanted them dead. That's an accomplishment, and not something to be ashamed of. They got the last laugh, and I have a lot of good albums.
Grats, and may the site rest in peace. - enzyte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10https://ssl.allofmp3.com/uc.html

- FartyMcFart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The more you tighten your grip, RIAA, the more mp3 sites will slip through your fingers...
I guess it's back to:
http://www.mp3sugar.com/
http://www.mp3stor.com/
http://www.mp3search.ru/ - shaen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10It doesn't matter. AllofMP3 uses Chronopay for its transactions. I don't see how thay can steal something they haven't taken.
- TetsuoSama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"but if you're purchasing from AllOfMp3.com please be aware that none of your money goes to artists, it just goes to pirates"
And if you're purchasing from the RIAA please be aware that very close to none of your money goes to artists, it just goes to greedy monopolist arseholes. - RubberbandLN6, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10People calm down. We don't know anything definite yet, remember they handle a massive amount of traffic each day and I am guessing they are just working on their servers. I hope.
- amphora, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7If you paid via Visa or MasterCard call your issuing bank and dispute the payment. The chargeback process heavily favors the customer in the "card not present" type of transaction and allofmp3 doesn't even have to be a viable entity anymore for you to get your money back. You will get your money back.
The way it works is your issuing bank files a retreival request from the merchant bank. Merchant bank provides issuing bank with info. You fill out some paperwork maybe and attest they charged you but you did not get the product you paid for. Even if allofmp3 has disappeared into the sunset their merchant bank will take the hit for your x number of dollars.
It was the risk their merchant bank took when they signed them. Merchant banks aren't so much providers of a service (credit card processing) as they are lenders providing an unlimited, unsecured line of credit. - vperez, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13I just kinda assumed that was a joke. :)
- Terc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This was my favorite way to buy albums, good quality music, and I didn't even have to rip it to my computer (I play all my music from my hard drive or ipod). The low price allowed me to buy an album, and order a t-shirt online for about $10.
This was good for ME (I get an album encoded the way I want it, a tshirt for about $11.50, and no DRM)
and was good for the ARTIST (they get about $2.00 or maybe more depending on the licensing on the shirt)
I think this is much better than the 11% iTunes offers to artists,
and the RIAA sees only money through the licensing agreement for the t-shirt sales
Allofmp3, you will be missed. - nrbelex, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9So did I... we won't...
- ahskeet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Your dad should have killed you for putting $612 on there in the first place.
- supspn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, don't go down I have 16 bucks in there. LOL That would get me my next 16 albums I want.

Domain servers in listed order:
DNS37.REGISTER.COM 216.21.234.89
DNS38.REGISTER.COM 216.21.226.89 " - mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8It's in the dark-grey area. It lives in a loop hole of old russian laws not meant for digital music, between American import laws that may or may not apply to internet downloads. So, it might be illegal but they can't sue you for it.
- imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Big ***** whoop!! So you're in for $25 (or $50) with your credit card company! Just use a card that protects you against fraud, or one with a low limit. As well, anyone with a Citibank card can use a disposable number.
I guess since you couldn't figure that out yourself, AND/OR if you pay .99¢ for 128k encoded songs, then you're the idiot. - baldycraig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7If you do some searches you can find forums about when we all went through this a few years ago. Scares like this have happened several times actually.
- phlaxis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Just remember, just 50 years ago it was ILLEGAL for an African-American to sit on the white people section on the bus. Not that I completely agree with piracy (I do believe in supporting the artists if they're not a bunch of RIAA stooges) but I always like to point this out to people when they start talking about "intellectual property" and "piracy" and the like. Just because it's illegal does not make it morally or ethically wrong, as someone said before me. If the president made a law saying it was illegal for anyone from the middle east to get a job or a house here (why? because it hindered terrorism or something) would that make it wrong to rent out a room to an arab whose country was in civil war?
- jasqwerty, on 10/12/2007, -14/+20I always found it funny how people had to placate their guilt by paying 5 cents to the Russian mob in order to get their music illegally. ಠ_ಠ
- Terc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I think they are slowly taking all their servers offline...
The music file servers were the first to go (I posted a story on this a couple days ago) and people everywhere noticed that once they were accepting downloads again that their downloads ran at 0.00Kb/s. Online previews stopped working.
Today logins do not work, the homepage is gone, I'd be willing to bet we'll soon see the image server go too
Trust me, I don't want them to go (still have a $22 balance) but things are looking grim. Seriously, if you owned the company wouldn't you set up a redirect explaining that there were server upgrades taking place or explaining the situation if you ever planned on your customers coming back? - madeingermany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5good digging, enzyte :)
1. ordering was down
2. page was down for maintainance
3. site completely down
-> I don't think if it still was maintainance they would take down everything.... doesn't look good to me. - tdog75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They can keep my 10 bucks, it was great while it lasted.
- acruxksa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Many may question the legality of allofmp3, but the fact is their distribution model is first rate. the idea of pricing music by quality is something the RIAA and their drones didn't think of and will resist with all their $$$ and lawyers. they would much rather you pay $10 for an album encoded in a lossy format than $14-$16 for a CD that requires significant investment to produce, distribute and sell.
Personally I would gladly pay $12 for an album encoded @ 320Kbps, but no way is one encoded at 128Kbps worth $10, regardless of the format used!!!
Memo to RIAA:
CD/WAV = $14 - $16
320Kbps = $12 - $13
224Kbps = $9 - $10
192Kbps = $7 - $8
160Kbps = $6 - $7
128Kbps = $5 - $6
These prices reflect the degraded quality of the product at a given bit rate and I feel that this is the future of the online music business (I wonder anyone has a patent on this, allofmp3???). The prices aren't really as important as the fact that the RIAA currently wants us all to pay %70 of a CD's price for what amounts to less than %30 of a CD's quality.
Just my $.02 - edto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Perhaps they are moving their servers away from Russia to a new safehold.
