- Tobark, on 10/10/2007, -1/+72$6.66 - Number of the Feast
-----------------------------
I left alone , my mind was blank
I needed time to think to get the hunger from my mind
What did I eat, can I believe , that what I ate
that night was real and not just fantasy
Just what I ate, in my old dreams were they
reflections of my weber grill staring back at me
'Cos in my dream it's always there, the the delicious food that twists my mind
and brings me to despair
The food was black ,was no use holding back
'Cos I just had to eat. Was someone watching me?
In the mist red figures move and twist
Bringing me my meal , my tires they did just squeal
$6.66 the number of the Feast
Oil and fire was hot to say the least..
Burgers blazed and sacred fries were praised
As they start to fry , hands held to the sky
In the night the fires burning bright
The ritual has begun, The King's work is done
$6.66 the number of the Feast
Scarfing food is going on tonight
This can't go on I must just order slaw..
Can this still be real,oh my god they have ice cream!!
But I feel drawn towards the evil chanting hordes
They seem to mesmerise me ... can't avoid their fries
$6.66 the number of the Feast
$6.66 the one for you and me...
I'm coming back I will return
And I'll possess more dollars and I'll make you learn...
I have the fire I have the force..
I have the power to make my hunger take it's course... - ColonelJessup, on 10/10/2007, -2/+51White man came, across the sea! He brought us Whoppers, with some CHEESE!
- sjbdallas, on 10/10/2007, -7/+44Oh my, I was scared for a second that Iron Maiden had fallen so far that they'd been forced to give their music away with Value Meals.
- bruinexmo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20I'm going to buy the Iron Maiden tracks just to support DRM-free music. It's about time record companies got the hint.
Mmmmm... tasty Whopper. - wolfebyte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I'm more scared of those commercials.. "Waking up with the King"..
for some reason, those commercials are very, very disturbing.. ;-) - jasz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12\m/ >.< \m/
- Typhoon2009, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Sellin them burgers and takin' their gold, employing the young and employing the ooooooollllld
Run to the kiiiiiing! Ruuun foooor youuur foooooood! - Tobark, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12The Trooper
(aka The old Man of the Lunch Hour)
-------------------------------------------------------
You'll take my fries but I'll take yours too
You'll fire katsup but I'll run you through
So when you're waiting for the snack attack
You'd better order there's no turning back.
The fry bell sounds and the charge begins
But on this order line no one wins
The smell of fryer smoke and old men's breath
No apple pie means certian death..
Ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhhhh oh oh ohhhhhhhhhh
Ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhhhh oh oh ohhhhhhhhhh
Old man sweats, with hunger we break to run
With the sound of dropping burger buns..
And as we race towards the cash machine
The screams of pain , oh god my burger is green!!
Ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhhhh oh oh ohhhhhhhhhh
Ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhh ohhhhh oh oh ohhhhhhhhhh
We hurdle shake cups that lay on the ground
And the old man fires another round
He can't hear , so we move closer still
If he screws my order Ill just have to kill
We get so close near enough to fight
When the old man gets me in his sights
He pushes buttons and I feel the blow
He dropped my onion rings on the ground below.
And as I lay there gazing at this guy
My body's numb and my throat is dry..
"You forgot my soda" , I begin to moan
Without a tear I draw my parting groan... - Vlatro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11If Iron Maiden is going to "Fast Food Marketing", at least give us Eddie toys in the kid's meals. I'd buy dozens of those.
- Fhwqhgads, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Maiden rules!
Gods among men. - yingjai, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11The name Burger King only reminds me of the stupid game they released. Man that was hilarious.
- mbthompson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Iron Maiden? Sign me up!
- insanebrain, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10buying mp3 files. . .hmm. . strange concept.
- trenchcoat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Up the Irons.
- mannaran, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9DRM is dead!
The RIAA sucks! - riddlebox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6This is just awesome!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7from bill and ted:
king: "put them in the iron maiden"
b&T "excellent!" *air guitar solo*
king: "execute them."
b&T: "bogus!" - imnojezus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Uh... ok.... that's kind of a weird marketing channel for music... but hey, whatever gets legal, DRM free tracks out there. GO EMI!
- jdfalk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Everyone is free to be wrong, I am just sorry you choose that path.
- kungfumaniac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Burgers and classic metal.
Why didn't I think of this? - kfsutops, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yeap. Just made my morning.
- Lasereth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Dugg because the Burger King mascot is freaking hilarious/scary.
- metalgod79, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Run To The Hills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Run For Your Life!!!, never have those words been more true then right now
- DrMonkeyLove, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4What?! Brighter Than a Thousand Suns was "samey" and "boring"?! Are you nuts? A Matter of Life and Death was an incredible album!
- CASTOFF, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3i quess youre not a fan of paul dianno the original singer eh !!!!!!
- eliezersilver, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I love you
- AgentHatchet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2My selective reading had me wondering how Iron Man could possibly go DRM free, then I realized I can't read.
- mehgahurtz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2A+++++ WOULD READ AGAIN!!!
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Note that EMI DRM-free tracks also appear on the iTunes Music Store. So you don't have to go out of your way to get these.
Personally, I buy my DRM-free content on plastic discs at Target on sale. - swgc5, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Dugg for Maiden, Up the Irons!
- LENNY2112, on 10/10/2007, -7/+9I like Iron Maiden...but I don't like the BK. lol
- Optimaximal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think it's more that EMI are doing the promotion and Iron Maiden just happens to be signed to one of their labels. I doubt some EMI suit coralled Steve, Bruce and the lads in a BK restaurant and asked their opinion and approval on the matter.
- TRUEPATRIOT, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2is burger king trying to become a retail store and a fast food restaurant? first they made games and sold them in store now music o_O.
- stubear, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And it begins...I said, long ago, to those who oft cried "music was made before copyright", to which I I replied "yes, but they were backed by wealthy patrons". Now music seems to have come full circle again and it's going to be backed by corporate sponsorship. There are two problems that I immediately see coming from this new found source of funding for the arts:
1) Corporate sponsors have to answer to the public. When music is released that the embers of the public doesn't like, they will threaten the corporate sponsor with a boycott of their goods and/or services. Once burned, twice shy. Hooray for corporate sponsored mediocrity.
2) Nothing in this world is free. You pay for everything with something, even if it's not money. "...from a campaign website" should read "...from an information gathering revenue machine". Do you think that corporations are going to be altruistic and just hand over a music file like that without collecting market data that they can use and/or sell to third parties? If you believe the music is truly free then I have some beach front property in Arizona I'd LOVE to sell you. - spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They could give they music away without hamburgers. Don't think for a second that this isn't directly profitable for Iron Maiden.
- JohnQPrivate, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Waiting for "the Eddie meets the Burger King" commercial.
The Burger King is still creepier. - celestial, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2metal in your mouth!!!!!!
- EricAnderton, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Fantastic Parody. I can hear Bruce singing those lines now...
- manofdestiny, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Excellent!
- astrotrain, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Next...Iron Maiden music reduced to CD singles in Themed Kids Meals at Burger King:
Speaker: May I take your order?
Driver: I would like a whopper, fries, and oh yeah do you have the "Eddie as Burger King" kids meal this week?
Speaker: No, we have the "Eddie as The President" meal this week.
Driver: "Oh good our kids don't have that CD yet... I'll take two of those kids meals then"
Speaker: Drive around please. - Vlatro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Encore:
I want to hear "Run to the grills" and "2 minutes till French fries". - bundwallah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Fantastic! More more!!
- Vlatro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I would argue that music the last 100 years has also been backed by corporate sponsorship. It's very hard to make a decent living without record studio contracts, publishing services, booking services, advertising and radio exposure. That is unless you don't mind playing the same bar every couple of days. The corporations who sponsor music usually find bands that fit a target demographic and market exclusively to them. Others use a variety of artists with different sounds so if you don't like one band/album, odds are they have another you will.
Aside from that, I think the success of a great hit song far outweighs the failure of a bad song, since no one will listen to the bad one. Most corporations are very good at evaluating risk and balancing it accordingly. As such, you're concerns about the sponsors accountability are moot. Even if there were a huge scandal, in marketing we say "There's no such thing as bad PR". In fact scandals are more often than not Free PR!
Rather than asking, "will corporate sponsorship hurt the sponsor", we should be more concerned with "Will corporate sponsorship hurt the music?" I would argue that it already has. The selection of artists and genres is pretty bland amongst the top 25 record studios. They like to follow the tried and true, cookie-cutter formulas for a successful album. Innovation suffers because of this. Clear Channel Radio owns and operates 85% of all radio stations in the US. If you've ever driven across country with the radio on, you realize the exact same programming is syndicated across the whole country, and the selection is not nearly as diverse as one may think. Not only are all the stations the same (except fro local news and DJ's), but the same 25-30 songs just repeat over and over. I think any move away from that is good.
I would also argue that Burger King's sponsorship of these bands is no different from advertising on the radio, when the songs (provided for "free") are used to draw people into the advertisers business. - stubadub, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Iron Maiden has been around for more than 30 years. If they decide that they are willing to have their music given away at this point who the ***** cares? It's not like they are using their music to try and sell you a volvo. They are using burgers to give away their music.
- dude187, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1EMI is looking better and better. They are one label that knows how to survive in the digital age, unlike the dinosaur that is Sony. I expect to see them on top of the game before too long, time to start buying EMI stock!
- dude187, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"Hooray for corporate sponsored mediocrity."
You must not listen to any RIAA backed music if you think thats *not* the current norm... - jasz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1http://www.flickr.com/photos/jaszed/916779519/
- Hamsterpotpies, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10_o
- omnithought, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Ok, now they need a new mascot...Eddie dressed up as the King!
Wait I think someone beat me to it:
http://www.atwmusic.com/20410.gif - haggie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1She is just the most recent artist of a very talentless group.
I wouldn't make the effort to rip a fart to get a CBR track. -
