- F9Phoenix, on 06/25/2009, -1/+15Culture victory for the win.
- kylafornia26, on 06/25/2009, -2/+16amazing story from the real undergound rock scene in Tehran
- DouglasQ, on 06/26/2009, -2/+15And Iraaaaan, Iran so far awaaaaay...
- CivicTV, on 08/14/2009, -2/+13Iran is actually not that oppressive when it comes to music. Musicians there can actually grow their hair out unlike in Iraq. Iraq currently has a couple of metal bands, Iran has 14. Halla is nothing like Hypernova. I dont want to seem like an ass, but this just looks like a marketing scheme.
Here is a list of some Iranian metal (power, black, thrash, heavy, prog):
Abathur
Ahoora
Angband
Aras
Arashk
Ekove Efrits
Farshid Arabi
Farzad Golpayegani
Halla
Kahtmayan
Midgard
Nazhand
Sorg Innkallelse
Tarantist - smdepot, on 06/25/2009, -1/+11kylafornia26 looks like Jim Croce lol
- tpfraz, on 06/25/2009, -1/+10Pretty rad story! No hip moving allowed
- cweintraub, on 06/25/2009, -1/+9You can't suppress music!!
- oriondr, on 06/25/2009, -1/+7Them guys sound pretty damn good
- Goda90, on 06/26/2009, -0/+6This would be so much cooler if they were still in Iran, defying the government, instead of in the US. It would also be cool if they could give a public concert in Tehran and not be arrested. They've got a decent sound, so I'll be looking into them.
- yocouchdigga, on 06/25/2009, -1/+6can't stop the beat.
- LaffyTaffy3, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4Hypernova's Statement Regarding Current Affairs in Iran:

taken from their blog
by revolution i assumed you meant what's going on right now there - LorenzT, on 06/25/2009, -1/+4Wow, You should have a follow-up interview with them abt. the revolution
- shaneorr, on 06/25/2009, -1/+4lmao @foot-lose
- mechnoch, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3Iran needs more Bacon.
- Gravey9, on 06/26/2009, -2/+5Their view on life, fun, and rock is so far off from anything Iranian it's refreshing. The youth movement of Iran is bettering the country and creating a country worth living in. Hypernova is the voice!
- DjAshes, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3This music is amazing.. Not what I expected in the slightest.
Fairy tales has been on repeat since I heard this last night :) - inactive, on 06/26/2009, -1/+4http://www.myspace.com/hypernova
- Fadakar, on 06/26/2009, -2/+5Persian Pride!
- elwill, on 06/26/2009, -1/+4These guys are a riot. We filmed them and partied later at SxSW a couple years ago. The drummer was ***** hilarious, your typical rocker:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uj6X19L-rw - bigfruitbasket, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3They just want to rock the casbah...
- ChuckIT, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2Farzad Golpayegani and Kahtmayan is just music - do they have vocals? seems like they do not.
- omega09, on 06/26/2009, -1/+3Freddie Mercury of Queen was of Iranian decent - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freddie_Mercury#Ethni ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parsi - naeim, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2i've seen these guys live twice in san francisco. i've seen other iranian bands too. they're all good, but hypernova genuinely rocks.
- kylafornia26, on 06/26/2009, -1/+3I want that guys Telecaster, so badass!
- dradik, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2***** KICK ASS SONG!!
I can't stop listening to it!! - jaasum, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1Supernova *
- RegalBegal, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1Seeing the title made me think they were dead.
- CivicTV, on 08/14/2009, -0/+1Wow for being "underground rockers" from Iran they were able to travel to Austin, Texas and play at one of the largest music festivals in the USA?
- CivicTV, on 08/14/2009, -0/+1Kahtmayan to my knowledge is just instrumental, but Farzad Golpayegani does have vocals in some songs, but its all done by one person with some people who help in recording.
- fef560, on 06/26/2009, -1/+2Where can you find their music?
- PlutoPrime, on 06/26/2009, -1/+2Huh? It's far from anything Iranian? Or are you saying it's far from anything you've been fed by Iranian Media? Growing up in Iran just as many of my friends listened to metallica and wanted to play music as kids here. Except there possessing music that is not religious or causes you to dance is like being caught with Meth in the US. How does a law enforced by a bunch of crazy Mullahs represent Iran?
- CivicTV, on 08/14/2009, -0/+1I am in no way qualifying their inhumane *****, my core reason for commenting was that this band seems to be getting increased press because of the Iran situation (they are based in New York). They also happen to be on tour during this time and it seems very convenient for them to be able to get their name out under the bloodshed and oppression that is happening back in their country. Hypernova is in no way an underground band, and should not be taken as such. They're pop, they're a trend, they're *****. 14 metal bands was just a wide list, their are many that I did not list such as Silent Path, Emerna, Beaten Victoriouses, Nahan, Mogh, Eternals Grief, Arpa, Sorg Innkallelse, Daamoon. I was trying to get people to look at these true underground bands.
A BAND THAT GETS TO BE ON MTV IS NOT UNDERGROUND, HYPERNOVA HAS BEEN ON MTV. - omega09, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1He was Parsi - which are Iranians Zoastrians that went to India.
- lemur, on 06/25/2009, -0/+1My favorite Iranian rock band is O-Hum. Any fans here?
- kernel16, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1Except both those articles say he was Indian...
- dstz, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1Yes you can, see the Taliban regime of a few years ago that extinguished music... in the area of the world where modern diatonic music probably originated, before being passed on to Mesopotamia. Iran isn't the poster child for what authoritarian regimes can or can't do.
- a3leggedmidgit, on 06/26/2009, -0/+0I think they sound like The Offspring, lyrically speaking. Listen to the writing style and the cadence, it reminds me of old Offspring, back when they wrote on Smash or Ixnay on the Hombre. Just think Dexter Holland with a really low voice and a more limited range vocally.
I'm not dissing the singer at all, the low monotone goes really well.
They look like they have a bright future. I wish them the best. - inactive, on 06/26/2009, -1/+1Nice!
Here is the music video featured in the article:

Catchy tune - madk, on 06/26/2009, -2/+2WOW 14 whole metal bands? I have more than than on my block. I think the problem with your comment was the "not that oppressive" statement. Please don't qualify their inhuman *****.
- inactive, on 06/26/2009, -1/+1Their views on life, fun and rock are Iranian. It is this relatively new government in Iranian history that imposes these ridiculous rules. As an Iranian-Canadian I invite you to an Iranian New Years party (every spring equinox) and you'll see we know how to party :P.
- gkiltz, on 06/26/2009, -0/+0We might as well get used to it here in the US!
If the radio "Performance tax" goes through, mainstream musig will not exist on either mainstream radio or most internet only radio. These outlets will have no choice but to look to unsigned and independent bands!! - Toof84, on 06/26/2009, -1/+0DIGG IT!!!
- painting, on 06/26/2009, -3/+1we get it, you have no talent and skills so you leech on to other people of the same origin.
- inactive, on 06/25/2009, -5/+1Bomb Iran amirite republicans?
