- Brisbiro, on 02/28/2008, -0/+0rest of the scene lagging behind? have you been drinking bong water? between acts like ambitious lovers, nova scotia, shiver like timbre, sekiden, violent soho, bloon etc we have the most vibrant scene in the country.
and as for slander not being cool, *****. slander is second only to graffiti in 'cool' crimes.

Marillion did it 7 years ago (with their album Anoraknophobia) and while yes, they had a label, Sellaband.com's entire premise is about indie bands without labels getting fans to stump up cash up front to pay the band's recording costs. - mlirblur, on 02/07/2008, -0/+0Noyce! I took a listen to the stuff on their myspace, I actually dig it. A little gothy, but the vocalist has got a nice style.
- leishaRAIN, on 02/08/2008, -0/+0i would really really love to see these guys live, but havent had the chance to yet :(
- jerseymilk, on 02/08/2008, -0/+0well done boys, great to see an aussie band putting themselves in a position to make music
- Brisbiro, on 02/10/2008, -0/+0There is alot more here than meets the eye though
The red paintings have always been a blight on the brisbane music scene. By intimidating their fans into donation, they have falsely claimed to reach a $40K target. important thing to remember is that they did not reach it, not by a long shot. - lansed, on 02/09/2008, -0/+0great band with great ideas and great ways of pulling off said ideas......an inspiration to many brisavages..........
- aliasforstuff, on 02/07/2008, -0/+0congrats!
- indecisean, on 02/11/2008, -0/+0and you have what evidence to back this up, brisbiro?
- musicmonkey86, on 02/11/2008, -0/+0TRP are the most giving band i know. I am one of those peeps who donated money along with alot of other folk i know. This band works hard to offer up something new and fresh to the Brisbane music scene, they actually have something to say, and for that i am proud to have them here. What possible basis are you getting this intimidation idea? There are many people behind this band and i am really happy for them. Go and crawl back under your rock until you have something decent to say that is both plausible and educated.
- barblg33, on 02/11/2008, -0/+0First of all, The Red Paintings did not "intimidate" anyone into donating to their album. What a ridiculous claim. It's a rather simple concept really. If you wanted to donate to the album then you did and if not you didn't. I fail to see where any intimidation came into play.
Secondly, they have not "falsely" claimed to reach their $40K target. They did in fact reach their donation goal and you are trying to appear as if you are on the inside and know of things others do not, when you are simply just someone who does not like the band.
It is one thing to voice your opinion of the band, you are entitled to that. But to make false claims and imply it as fact, well just simply slander and that is not cool. - barblg33, on 02/11/2008, -0/+0First of all, The Red Paintings did not "intimidate" anyone into donating to their album. Intimidated their fans?!
What planet are you from??
Personally as someone who has (a) contributed a donation; and (b) met each member of the band in person - they would have to be the LEAST intimidating band i have EVER had the pleasure of meeting.
And calling them a "blight" on the Brisbane scene would have to be the most preposterous thing i have EVER heard! They are one of the best bands out of Brisbane from the past ten years - quite frankly the rest of the scene has been lagging behind. If the others were courageous enough to create something original - then perhaps you might have a leg to stand on, but personally i think you're full of baseless slander for an agenda of your own which has nothing to do with the actual achievement they've made.
Oh, and for the record - yes, they made the $40,000. And ENTIRELY through fan donations. They didn't even need the threaten us with a whip ;o)
I, for one, am looking forward to hearing the fully-fan-funded debut album. I don't care what any nay-sayers want to pretend.
