- inactive, on 10/13/2007, -0/+10Y'know...I pretty much agree with you, but STFU and enjoy the music. This is not about politics, but the shared human condition and how music brings us TOGETHER...not apart.
- Scumbunny, on 10/13/2007, -1/+9Asian rock music has always been very experimental, but don't discount the Russian indy scene as well.
Since we're going around the globe, how bout these guys http://tw.video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=651156 - lanzemurdok, on 10/13/2007, -0/+7***** hell. I thought by now i would have stopped being rick rolled.
- CanadaMan87, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Opium.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Holy *****!
What kinda drugs do they have over in China?! - evolvor, on 10/13/2007, -3/+9Makes sense. I wonder if the govt re-writes any political lyrics lol!
- swrostmore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The pinnacle of asian rock music: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7907609206 ...
- mrjit, on 10/13/2007, -0/+5i actually like it.
- Abram, on 10/13/2007, -0/+5I saw Boys In Cage at 4live in shanghai a few weeks ago. really good music, but their stage presence wasn't there. Shanghai's rock scene is in its infancy at best. Beijing seems to be where most of the action is right now.
Also, all these comments about cencorship in china dont really seem to be visable. These bands aren't huge. With a population so huge, a few hundred(thousand?) rockers aren't going to bring about any change. Last month I saw Nine Inch Nails in Beijing. "I want to **** you like an animal" wasn't cencored at all...although, many songs by other artists were censored.
I've been living in Shanghai for one year this month, and the fact it's "communist" isn't really manifested (at least not in SH). Capitalist dictatorship seems more appropriate. And sure, china is ***** up...but as an American, i can't stand to hear the news of what my country is doing. (vote ron paul!) - jeo77, on 10/13/2007, -0/+4I read the title and thought they were talking about the giant boulder that chases Indiana Jones. I'm a sad case.
- damage78, on 10/13/2007, -0/+3Music is a matter of personal choice but these guys were my favorite band while I was in Beijing. http://www.myspace.com/carsickcars
Here's another on that's very popular at the moment. Also from Beijing.
http://www.myspace.com/joyside - Kamisado, on 10/13/2007, -0/+3Anyone know where I can get a digital download of Lonely China Day's album, Sorrow?
Nothing on iTunes (I'm in the UK), no luck going through the band's website and a torrent search turned up nothing :( - inactive, on 10/13/2007, -0/+3Well put. I'm a Canadian in Shanghai and next month will be my 1 year mark as well. You are friended sir!
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Except this article kind of blows, it only features 3 groups of which 1 group isn't even Chinese, he just happens to be an European guy that resides and studied there. The first and third are signed with the same group. These aren't even the best indie bands I've heard in China, all these guys have going for them is that they have youtube vids and they show up on a search for China and Indie in YouTube.
I don't know, I'm just ranting because I've simply heard better indie from China the groups this article fronts. - puddlegum, on 10/13/2007, -0/+3Send me the band links and I'll check them out. We'll consider them for a future article. I want to cover more bands from China, so thanks!
- satanikus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Goddamn, that kicks ass! Nice find.
- tehnico, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is really good.
- UGM2099, on 10/13/2007, -0/+2I saw Rebuilding The Rights of Statues play in Brooklyn a few months ago, they were really great actually.
- Anonymouse3, on 10/13/2007, -0/+2No mention of the cavesluts. Best Chinese rock band around right now.
http://www.cavesluts.com/ - puddlegum, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1Amazon Mp3 has it if you have access in the UK: http://www.amazon.com/Sorrow/dp/B000TETLKC/ref=dmu ...
- HaloZero, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4indie rock + government that censors (they just dont censor political stuff, they censor "indecent" stuff as well occasionally)...... Wow this is going to lead to one big pile of crap and a lot of missing indie rock stars.
- puddlegum, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1Duly noted
- benedictkenny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this isn't tokyo ska paradise orchestra.
- onisamsha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dino....sit back and listen. Even though it's in a different language, you might be able to hear a little snippet of what makes us all the same.
- FoxOrian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"It's people like you what cause unrest."
- onisamsha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd clarify that to say "the pinnacle of dronemetal anywhere."
Boris' album "Pink" makes me want to smash through brick walls. - puddlegum, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1Thanks! I'll check them out.
- onisamsha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You said exactly what i wanted to.
- jimmiss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The second video is anti government for gods sake.
- Kamisado, on 10/13/2007, -0/+1That's locked down to the US. Thanks for the hint anyway.
- amenhotep, on 10/15/2007, -0/+0getting old
- Triachus, on 10/13/2007, -1/+1You don't need to keep digging me down. This music is pretty damn average and you're all trying to light the fires of Chinese creativity with diggs. Its not going to work. Especially with these half-talent bitches.
- mrjit, on 10/13/2007, -6/+3dashbored cronfressional?
- coldaslife, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Not surprised. Sissies with bad haircuts are everywhere.
- r3bol, on 10/14/2007, -7/+2Chinese rock bands! Must resist Chinese jokes... no...
- So I guess that bands from china will break up quicker.
- I got lead poisoning going to a Chinese heavy metal concert.
... - Triachus, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1CRAP. But good try.
- freshgrease, on 10/13/2007, -7/+2The real question is if you'll get lead poisoning from listening it, or if the makers will laugh at you for buying what they call "crap."
- frenchkick, on 10/13/2007, -8/+2i love how they sound like all my favorite indy bands
for the sake of grind
milk
postcard from nowhere

- dinoferino5, on 10/13/2007, -23/+1I DO NOT ENDORSE CHINA IN ANY WAY-SHAPE-OR FORM
