- megapeg, on 01/05/2009, -0/+21Love 'em or hate 'em, the Dead managed to outwit the music industry the first time around, by allowing free taping and trading of their music, foregoing the idea of large royalties on their recordings and instead focusing on making money on their live shows - LOTS of money. They'll do it again this time around, because their fan base remains devoted, and has even perhaps grown somewhat. There are a lot of lessons to be learned from this group, but the major labels can't be bothered - they're too busy suing Midwestern housewives and college freshman for illegally downloading.
- sockpuppets, on 01/06/2009, -1/+9Jerry's dead, so they should just be The Grateful.
- acmaurer, on 01/05/2009, -1/+7That's sad - but if they no longer enjoy one another - why keep touring? The money can't be their only motivation.
- BN89, on 01/06/2009, -1/+6Can't wait to attend.
- clemdia, on 01/06/2009, -0/+5Why do the Dead have two drummers?
In case one falls asleep from old age or boredom during a show.
How many Deadheads does it take to screw in a light bulb?
101: one to screw in the light bulb, and 100 to tape the experience. - BrettFromTibet, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3I saw Jerry and the 'Dead my senior year of high school... it was life-changing!
- PDAIsAOk, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3I saw The Dead play at Bonnaroo in '03. This is not new, they've been calling themselves The Dead for awhile now
- TheTardis, on 01/06/2009, -3/+6Ain't No Time To Hate
If you are not a fan just, please, let the rest of us be
Please - WyllyWylly, on 01/06/2009, -1/+4And in other news, Zig Zag has reported a 837% increase in sales of their popular rolling papers...
- craiginct, on 01/06/2009, -0/+3I'll go - just to see old friends. Is Warren Haynes signed on yet?
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -1/+3its like a box of rain on your wedding day
~ jerry garcia - williamlee, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2I'm a deadhead and you cracked me up. Kudos.
- Coffeedemon, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2That would be nice... but this is Digg where the motto is "your favourite band sucks".
- vango, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2i hear theyre playing the Forum. so sad. play somewhere outdoors!
- williamlee, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2I was there. And in '04. Great *****' shows.
- williamlee, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2Screw DMB, man.
- leif77, on 01/06/2009, -0/+2Call me Mr. Pun Killer but they haven't gone by The Greatful Dead since Jerry died... They go by The Dead... Hence, they are "no longer grateful."
- williamlee, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1They'll ***** you over on the tank. Ditch it.
- AmazingSteve, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1No Jerry, no Dead. Christ, it's like the Stones without Mick.
- PDAIsAOk, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1Hell yea they were, good memories for sure
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1YEAH, that should be a no brainer. screw DMB.
- williamlee, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1Not too sure about the memories part, chum.
- inotocracy, on 01/06/2009, -1/+2Jerry or not, we can all look forward to the potent LSD being sold in the parking lots at least. :P
- AmyVernon, on 01/05/2009, -1/+2Why not? That's the motivation for many people. You think they didn't care about the money?
- williamlee, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1Dude, if you can't take a little prodding and mockery then the internet may not be for you.
- Kcaj, on 01/06/2009, -1/+1Aww, sadly no FL date. Looks like we're making a road trip. A very long and strange road trip.
- bigstinky, on 01/06/2009, -2/+2I'm sorry. I just can't see it. I never could. Even on acid back in the day...I just could not get into this band.
Plus there's nothing worse than a 20 person, floppy pants wearing, hacky-sack on the perimeter drum solo where absolutely zero rhythm is involved.
Just think of the puppies. - inactive, on 01/06/2009, -0/+0Acoustics are always better indoors.
- sovereign3, on 01/06/2009, -3/+3"Dead no longer, the Grateful will tour."
Is that not a cleverer headline for the story? - bouche, on 01/06/2009, -1/+1if you want to see a better cover band than The Dead, go out and see the Dark Star Orchestra.
http://www.darkstarorchestra.net - spudcracker, on 01/06/2009, -2/+1Dead cover band? ummm... no. They are not a cover band, they are the Dead.
- maz2331, on 01/06/2009, -2/+1Uh, cool.
But with out Garcia, what's the point? - Jabb0, on 01/06/2009, -2/+1Grateful Metal!
- bouche, on 01/06/2009, -2/+1Too bad Bob Weir is still in the band.
- WanderOn, on 01/06/2009, -2/+1Oh do I love upstate NY.
4 Shows in easy driving distance :-D
I'll have to bail on DMB band at madison square garden though :( - Kcaj, on 01/06/2009, -2/+1So you mean that I'm going to have a new acid connect some time this year? *checks for FL tour dates*
Find me in the parking lot with an 80lb tank, a whole slew of RCs and a big wad of cash. I'll be the only hippy there with spinning rims and silver teeth. Not hard to miss :)
Long live the Dead! - Zapple100, on 01/06/2009, -3/+1 I saw them the last time they toured without Garcia. They turned into a Grateful Dead cover band.
- mofogangster97, on 01/06/2009, -2/+0YES WE CAN YES WE CAN
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y497yIVA__0 - speedyink, on 01/06/2009, -3/+1Isn't this old news?
PS. The Dead is nothing without Jerry, he was the heart of the band. - inactive, on 01/06/2009, -2/+0OGC<~~
- Shaggy3, on 01/06/2009, -5/+2Oh I get it.. That was supposed to be a joke.
- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -5/+1ungrateful bitches
- misfit410, on 01/06/2009, -7/+2Garcia, I for one and Grateful that he's dead.
- smacksaw, on 01/06/2009, -8/+2Sorry, but as a white man I say GOOD.
The collective dancing ability of my ethnicity just went up 1000% by the lack of their concerts for white people to embarrass my kind doing the "dancing" that just makes me cringe.
I think it's like how the average black person must feel when Al Sharpton goes on a rant. I feel the same uncomfortable shame when I think about hippies grooving with their uncoordinated whiteness doing a poor approximation of dancing. HIPPIES - YOU DO NOT DANCE FOR ME! - doublefelix, on 01/06/2009, -16/+11What did the Grateful Dead fan say when he came down from his high?
What's this ***** we're listening to?

What is Digg?
