- dewey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fantastic band, if they come to the East Coast US, I'll be there.
- CableCarrier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Excellent. I really dig this band, and seeing a technology like this at work would be amazing.
- PacoBell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess they could do it with a large enough plastic hemisphere and an appropriate projector. I remember Sega made a cool arcade game once called Time Traveller that did the same thing. The effect was impressive to say the least, although the amount of quarters it ate made me cry like a little girl =`(
- Kingy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If the holograms could be rendered in real time from the actual band's movements backstage with some motion capture technology ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_capture ) this could be amazing.
- Pooley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1bank = band :(
Pick *one* up oh clever spell checker (not to mention the complete misunderstanding of *UK* English spealt words.
It's reali*s*e in real-life. Not a zed/zee.
Please don't respond to this blatant troll for a UK-US spell war. I don't care really. Not important, eh? - Trjn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They almost had to do this in order to do concerts unfortunately. From what I heard about their original attempts, they had a screen in front of the band members which played cartoons (probably pre recorded, but I can't confirm that) whilst the band performed.
Suffice to say, it just plain didn't work.
But this sounds promising, its all a matter of whether the images are directly related to the band member's movements or not (thanks to motion capture or something similar like kingy mentioned), because if it does, it can work, if its pre recorded, I honestly doubt it could be *that* good. - dyefade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1trjn: yeah I saw that, but honestly, I thought it worked really well. Maybe we're talking about different things (when I saw it, it was just 3D-ish projections on a stage with no band), and I was watching on tv, where the cameramen presumably took into account the angles they could use.
Still, this is exciting stuff, so dugg. - ncaa76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love there new video, "Dare" awesome animation!
- imightbewrong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'll go see them
- motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool use of technology = dugg
- Simen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awesome...that last album kicked butt.
- trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0kick ass, guess the futuristic movies were right about this.
- robotplague, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm not really a fan, but if they strolled through my neck of the wood I think I would check this out. Sounds like it could be pretty sweet.
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A possible move into...games? Is that what it says?
Call me crazy, but I think a gorillaz game would be sheer hell. - shamanking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet
- Pooley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just in case anyone didn't realise, Gorrilaz are chiefly made up of Damon Albarn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damon_Albarn) of Blur fame and the amazing comic creations of Jamie Hewlitt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_Hewlett) - Tank Girl, Hewligan's Haircut etc.
Heck, why not just check out the direct wiki for yourselves? Excellent and ground-breaking bank, loved equally by 38-year-old me and my 8-year-old daughter (now that doesn't happen often).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorrilaz - pronouncable, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wouldn't they have a new album out by then?
- jman420, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Has anybody seen tese guys in person?
- Gorbash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Stickyboot, considering the band is one guy putting the music together on a computer, that concert would be pretty lame.
- keane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wasn't there something like this in that movie, S1m0ne? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0258153/
- rm999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've seen a video of one of their live performances. They used a screen in front of the live band, and performed with (what I am assuming to be) a pre-recorded video projected onto the screen. At times the band and video wouldn't sync up all the way, which was annoying. Otherwise I thought it was really cool.
- Ozmotear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pepper's Ghost won't work. The "Gorillaz" aren't real. (in the physical sense)
Oz - Mo - Tee - Ar - XorSystem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm a bit confused.... what exactly will we be expecting to see?
- cecilmx6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Gorillaz live = FRIGGIN SWEET! I saw them in boston at the avalon one of the best shows I've ever been to.
- ScottBookG4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is really cool. Reminds me of William Gibson's book "Idoru," which tells of a Japanese pop idol that is entirely AI and holographic. Check it out if you haven't done so already.
- zediker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^beat me to it. =P
- 5blocksfree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jman420 >> Has anybody seen tese guys in person?
The whole concept behind the band is that it is a 'virtual' band - there are no band members to speak of, just people who perform the music. The 'members' are represented by the characters in the videos. This is one reason I think a live performance will lose something - the performers aren't really 'the band.'
I thought this 'virtual band' thing was quite an interesting concept, especially since the videos are some of the most creative I've seen in a long time. - jeffzoom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0holograms, yeah, awesome but, they got a problem with ppl knowing who they are? They could always go slipknot style

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepper%27s_Ghost - ross., on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I loved that game too...although maybe I was just dazzled by the 3D.
- stickyboot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Wow. Its cool as much as it is lame. Going to see a concert, I want to see that artists not a stupid video 3d show thing.
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Dont like the band, but it's a cool idea :)
- Ben - PacoBell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0No details on the technology involved to pull this off. Ghey =P
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0pacobell: I played that game, and I thought it was pretty damn stupid. I believe it worked off a trick of the eyes.
- subvertman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0i hate this band. cant wait not to see it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0NICE...that would be fricking insane heh
