- diskopo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I did not, have, musical, relations with that woman, Ms. Napster.
- bcnewman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11. Rumor surfaces of next Google product
2. Google denies said rumor, expresses no interest in product
3. Google release Beta version of said product
Standard Operating Procedure... - russizm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google shows restraint?!
- bantam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just wait a little longer till we hear some more on this. There has been many times when companies and there UK versions weren't synced on info.
- kilps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Mabybe not Napster, but they could still release a music service
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Too fast :P
Plus, when has Google ever confirmed any rumors? They've denied almost every single one of them, even those that have later happened. Its just logical that Google'd move on to music. They already have pictures, videos.. sound is next.
Josh - Grandfinale1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Damn that was fast!"
Argeed - XharMoondi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Picking up something like Napster would be an awesome move by Google. Too bad there really isn't something in the department of video for Google to pick up though...or better yet, too bad Google doesn't have the usability/design team to make it happen on their own =/
- phntm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think google are digging too
- Grodius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i digg this one, because im glad.
- zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why would you get mixed up in the Mess that is on line music sales.
You have to fight with the RIAA to setup one.
You have to pay more than half your profit in fees for every tune you sell.
You have to keep records to prove what you have and have not sold.
Oh ya, and the only two music stores that are doing well are.
Itunes and allofmp3.com
Oh ya sign my company up for that hell. - ChrisLim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can you say "Yeah... Right..!"
- ArthurSucks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Napsters? We don't need no stinkin Napsters?
- mateo60, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Reinvented Napster" is bastardized *****. I'm glad they're looking for a buyer because it means they're about to go under.
"Reinvented Napster" is just the old Sony Online Music store, with a different name and owner. - samadams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"we ain't not never no way maybe gonna not make no music store "
- ZoomBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0.. and to go along with those 320kbps MP3's, a free SUBPOENA!
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
Let Napster die. The only thing worth any money from that company is its brand and any other intellectual property it might have.
Any download store that offers their songs in DRMed WMA format is doomed once Microsoft unleashes its own download store in conjunction with its Xbox branded MP3 player.
It would be so much smarter to partner up with Apple on iTunes instead of trying to push the failed Google Video Store and a music offering as well. Throw Apple some development dollars, and lock up rights to an iTunes software port exclusively to Google's own Linux distribution (whenever they decide to release one). Split the profits with Apple from any iTunes purchase that came through Google. - BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0".. and to go along with those 320kbps MP3's, a free SUBPOENA!"
Oh please. The number of illegal MP3s on the internet versus legitimate, paid-for MP3s must be a ratio of at least 500:1. Of the millions of people who have downloaded illegal MP3s, maybe a few hundred have been subpoenaed?
I'm lucky in that the MP3's I download are all legal (mixes uploaded by DJ's), but even if they weren't, I'd still download them. - Bliss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"""I don't think they will develop a music store.
They will probably compete with download.com music section.
To be more exact they will be a competitor for sites like cdbaby.com"""
I hope your right. The indie's could use another big player.

http://music.download.com/planetbliss - diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anything but iTunes sucks anyway, so who cares?
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Google buying Napster" sounded rather rumor like.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Anybody who is half-retarded can figure out where to get full-bitrate MP3's encoded PROPERLY for FREE."
somehow i don't think (insert non-tech person name) is going to install (insert favorite pirateware name) to download music. - FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Damn that was fast!
- aoctavio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think this rumor was a trick to bring the stock down for a buy opportunity. It would make no sense for Google to buy into a Microsoft controlled technology not available on the Mac and try to mesh it with its own DRM technology (also unavailable for the Mac).
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
ps. From my previous comment. I also believe Sony should throw in the towel on the Sony Connect Store in exchange for partnering with Apple on iTunes (as Steve Jobs offered them 2 years ago) in exchange for the right to port iTunes to the PSP and the PS3, and making all the Sony Ericsson phones and the Sony MP3 players compatible with the iTunes Store. - celeronxl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thus is naturally follows that Google Music will be released in a week.
- tagbo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I think this rumor was a trick to bring the stock down for a buy opportunity."
Umm... rumors like these usually drive the price UP not down.... - TKDWILSON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"""I don't think they will develop a music store."""""
Maybe user submitted music and a private non RIAA music store for developing artists.
Eric Wilson - Swift2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If I had to guess, and I do, I'd say that Napster is in deep financial doo-doo so they floated a bubble to get Google interested. Any rumor about Google gets believed, and if the reaction had been positive, and Google was thinking about it in any way-- maybe there would be a Napster merger with Google Earth called Mapster.
- ZeroCorpse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Remember when Yahoo! was just a search engine? And then they became this big MESS of a company with everything possible connected to them.
I'd much rather see Google keep it simple. - gODfall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Napster is a sellout and so are Metallica. go0d on go0gle.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0C'mon guys, you have a lot of money, spend it, Napster deserves a good valuation..
- angelschambers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm surrounded by idiots.
- BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Who the hell uses those pay sites to buy MP3's anyway?
Anybody who is half-retarded can figure out where to get full-bitrate MP3's encoded PROPERLY for FREE. - thenativeraver, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Napster should have never tryed to sell mp3's. they should have just closed shop.
I HATE METALICA AND LARS!!!
so download a free mp3 (just to screw them over)
http://perso.ens-lyon.fr/florent.becker/toto/10-_-enter_sandman_(metallica).mp3 - zweben, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"I did not, have, musical, relations with that woman, Ms. Napster."
haha. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I don't think they will develop a music store.
They will probably compete with download.com music section.
To be more exact they will be a competitor for sites like cdbaby.com
