- LonesomeFighter, on 04/10/2009, -1/+26so now when a video says [OFFICIAL] next to it, it truly will be the official version? nice
- jellehenkens, on 04/10/2009, -0/+22Probably going to be for US internet users only :(
- salop, on 04/10/2009, -2/+22"We predict at launch Vevo will already have more traffic than any other music video site in the United States and in the world". just a little arrogant there
- brodsky13, on 04/10/2009, -1/+16Uh... so when Google's name is plastered all over this everyone is psyched, when Universal's name leads everyone trashes it? http://digg.com/music/Google_Universal_to_Launch_M ...
- JakeBC, on 04/10/2009, -1/+13I suppose in Canada we will probably get the familiar message; "We're sorry, currently our video library can only be streamed within the United States"
- hawksfan03, on 04/10/2009, -0/+11you sir are correct.
- FishHammer, on 04/10/2009, -0/+10Watch them put ads every 1/3 through the songs they have on there.
- Rocco03, on 04/10/2009, -3/+12I'd like to send a preemptive "***** you" to the ***** that's gonna suggest using a proxy.
- oldhick, on 04/10/2009, -1/+9You forgot the /s
This is a complete joke. - larrimer7, on 04/10/2009, -0/+7comment on the digg bar story
and also turn off the digg bar in settings - exonyte, on 04/10/2009, -0/+7Well then I suggest using a proxy.
- UtahApocalyse, on 04/10/2009, -2/+8Google Music Service = Awesome
Universal Music Service = Restrictive
Sadly Google has signed a deal with a single record company. this mean that the library will be highly restrictive. There will be no chance for new, unknown, and unsigned artists. Also considering that Universal supports DRM, and RIAA I highly doubt I will ever vist that site. - netneutrality, on 04/10/2009, -2/+7Lol @ YouTube trying to make money.
- oldhick, on 04/10/2009, -0/+4Universal Music is a joke and Google just signed a deal with an unscrupulous, ignorant, and ultimately pathetic member of the music industry. Good job...
- inactive, on 04/10/2009, -5/+8can't stand the digg bar.
- isuisorisuaint, on 04/10/2009, -3/+5people still make/watch music videos?
- Shinobi326, on 04/10/2009, -0/+2Seems like Doug Morris of Universal Music just came out of his coma and realized retail selling of plastic CDs is a dead business model. I hate it when there is only 1 decent song on a CD. I'm sure the other music companies will follow suit soon.
- vastrightwing, on 04/10/2009, -0/+2Sure, we need fragmentation: another click to go somewhere else. This is just Google playing along (why?). Let Universal leave, so what. Google/YouTube doesn't need them. My prediction is FAIL.
1) Entertainment industry will never "get it"
2) Not many people want to click to a different site to watch videos.
3) I'm sure the ads on the new site will be annoying.
4) The word "service" means there will be some kind of fee associated with it.
5) The new site isn't going to add any value. They aren't likely to allow downloading or anything.
6) HA HA HA HA - wthulhu, on 08/29/2009, -1/+2Don't f#ck this up google.
- gigitrix, on 04/10/2009, -0/+1digg bar can't stand you.
- RileyCourage, on 04/10/2009, -1/+2Good. We needed another video site.
- HurricaneDC, on 04/10/2009, -0/+1What's with the turbine-looking thing in the story thumbnail? Google Airplanes?
- tmeaster, on 04/10/2009, -2/+2"When it comes to challenges, the new joint venture faces plenty. While Universal Music's YouTube is by far the largest on the site, with nearly 4 billion views, nobody knows for sure whether a standalone music-video site can attract a big audience or ad revenue. "
If they weren't sure Google wouldn't do it. - sockhead360, on 04/11/2009, -0/+0***** yea now instead of everything being in one place i have to visit another site!!!
- inactive, on 04/10/2009, -1/+1"SIG HEIL , Warner Music Group!"
- T8erT0T, on 04/10/2009, -4/+3Certainly a better direction than banning things outright or resorting to listening to a song dubbed into some japanese anime. Just hope they don't go hog-wild ad crazy.
- MondoPest, on 04/09/2009, -8/+7Google has their roots everywhere these days.
- unitedkronos, on 04/10/2009, -2/+1Here's something to rat on about, somehow the UK's ban of watching music videos on YouTube because of some stupid royalty crap includes the blocking of footage of Trent Reznor in the studio.
http://www.youtube.com/ninofficial - kayleeking, on 04/09/2009, -5/+1Seriously.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -5/+1My thoughts exactly. The demonizing of all record labels continues on Digg when they should be applauded for embracing new technologies, especially since they are so often accused of being resistant to a rapidly changing music industry.
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -11/+6Looking forward for this...
