- RSAgent007, on 02/12/2009, -5/+68It's ok, its Google, not Microsoft, so we'll just ignore this and not criticize them.
- mrbroli, on 02/12/2009, -2/+48Oddly enough, ZZ Top posts were still in-tact
- hamobu, on 02/12/2009, -0/+34Richard M. Stallman has been proven right yet again. Keep your data out of the cloud.
- vizeroth, on 02/12/2009, -0/+21buried, he was hosting MP3s, they just happened to be files given to him for the purpose of advertising the music, and then the RIAA turned around and got them dropped from the site anyway.
- LookItsJoe, on 02/12/2009, -2/+20Do no evil?
- zyklon, on 02/12/2009, -1/+16You ever find it odd that Frank Beard was the only one without a massive beard?
- cawpin, on 02/12/2009, -4/+19ZZ Top rocks.
- Sms4001, on 02/12/2009, -1/+14.... they do.
- DJJensaarai, on 02/12/2009, -0/+13FTA:
"Perhaps most ominous for music bloggers are the reported conversations between the RIAA and Internet service providers. ISPs already possess the ability to monitor traffic flow based on Web addresses; on the copyright-enforcement horizon is a new tool called “deep packet inspection.” A technology with the potential to give copyright holders the upper hand in scouring the Web for infringers, deep packet inspection is currently employed primarily in law enforcement. If used for policing copyright infringement, however, it would allow ISPs and the RIAA to decrypt and track files sent across the Internet. Suddenly, a bunch of telecommunications and music companies would be given the ability to monitor files; in essence, to filter the Internet, a frightening proposition that would make a few thousand deleted blog posts look quaint."
...you've gotta be kidding - Stormwern, on 02/12/2009, -1/+13What's next, the MPAA banning trailers?
- pappyblueribs, on 02/12/2009, -0/+10Google must be crazy 'bout sharp dressed men.
- inactive, on 02/12/2009, -0/+9Getting a wee bit annoyed with google lately. Next.
- sakesaru, on 02/12/2009, -1/+10China is pretty much the worst country on the planet for net neutrality....
- Namco, on 02/12/2009, -0/+8Should've not republished those archive files. Should've kept a backup.
- DirtyVicar, on 02/12/2009, -0/+8Well said. Until you take initiative for setting up your own site, your own domain, and your own blog, this little violin is squeaking for you.
- shawns, on 02/12/2009, -1/+8Google hates hypem.com, me no happy
- iiBeLiEvE, on 02/12/2009, -0/+7Yeah, the Hypnotoad isn't even relat- ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD.
- tyme, on 02/12/2009, -2/+8When you talk as much as RMS, law of probability says you'll get something right, sometime.
I don't think predicting this required any sort of superhuman foresight on his part. Nor is he the only one to have said it, I'm sure. - PhoneGuy, on 02/12/2009, -0/+6You get what you pay for ...
- m3arvk, on 02/12/2009, -2/+8Google is evil.
- raublekick, on 02/12/2009, -0/+6So... my point still stands that if you don't want your data compromised, don't rely on free hosting that you have no control over?
- Venemous, on 02/12/2009, -1/+6***** THE RIAA
- ds000, on 02/12/2009, -0/+5Nothing to see here move along >.> Seriously Google is becoming a bit odd as of late.
- username7410, on 02/12/2009, -2/+6Somebody needs to come and delete half this article. Borrrrrr-ing!
- supersayanyoda, on 02/12/2009, -0/+4did any one else get distracted by the "25 years of American porn link"?
- nkassi, on 02/12/2009, -0/+4Ssssshhhh you will awake the Open Source monster.
- CySailor, on 02/12/2009, -2/+6Google quit clearly stats they are not evil... so any action they take that could be percieved as evil by anyone is obviuosly not the fault of Google. All hail the hypno-toad er... Google
- timdorr, on 02/12/2009, -1/+5Google has been bend over backwards for the record labels lately. Between this stuff and the tirade that Warner Music seems to be on with YouTube, they're not doing a whole lot to mitigate the situation in a manner that consider the consumer *at all*. Why these companies want to build bad press and spend money attacking people, rather than turning them into a new market, is beyond me. The people running these companies are just bad businesspeople, plain and simple.
- FunnyBoyz, on 02/12/2009, -2/+6This is why you host wordpress blogs on servers around sweden, china and other places..
- inactive, on 02/12/2009, -0/+3Sure do.
- raublekick, on 02/12/2009, -4/+7Not saying Google is in the right, but they DO have a TOS, and web hosting is cheap. Web hosts don't like you posting mp3s either, but you are still in charge of your data.
- skinturtle, on 02/12/2009, -1/+4I really really hate the RIAA...it's a wonder someone hasn't taken out their frustrations on their head office.
- Tenareth, on 02/12/2009, -0/+3Google doesn't want to get into a multi-billion dollar lawsuit with the MPAA/RIAA, it isn't good business sense.
As long as they have the power they have, and the goon-squad (Federal Government) as their protection, it is stupid for a business to take them on.
The issue is with MPAA/RIAA, not Google. - phunlee, on 02/12/2009, -0/+3shhh. they're totally gonna kill you now..
- inactive, on 02/12/2009, -0/+3Yes and then to summarise and post it on digg.. it happens a lot you know!
- vizeroth, on 02/12/2009, -2/+5If you had read the article, you'd realize that the mp3s in most cases were given to the bloggers to promote the albums, by either the label or the artist.
- Coffeedemon, on 02/12/2009, -0/+3Do not drag the Hypnotoad into all of this.
- mrsteveman1, on 02/12/2009, -4/+7I was wondering what you would think of this. Now the wait is over, and i can rest easy.
- moothemagiccow, on 02/12/2009, -0/+2Big surprise. Host your content on a server you pay for. One more reason not to use blogger
- whoreable, on 02/13/2009, -0/+2You pretty much summed it up.
- joshdj14, on 02/12/2009, -1/+3I've also noticed this happening on YouTube. Why, all of the sudden, must we first consult the copyright holder of the music when we were used to simply posting it?
- DivineMonkey, on 02/12/2009, -0/+2Just stay the ***** away from all the awesome Post-Rock/Ambient/Sludge/Metal blogs. Keep deleting the popular crap, k? Thanks =)
- aaronisreal, on 02/12/2009, -0/+2So you're waiting for someone else to read the rest of the article for you?
- tecunx, on 02/13/2009, -0/+1The FIA is not far behind.
- XmenArt, on 02/14/2009, -0/+1***** http://www.volumevote.com
- jmill987, on 02/13/2009, -0/+1Every girl's crazy bout a sharp dressed man!
- Namco, on 02/13/2009, -0/+1Well you guessed right.
- localzuk, on 02/12/2009, -0/+1Deep packet inspection on the scale that would be required would cost an absolute fortune. The processing power would be massive on its own. I doubt it would be cost effective to use other than for targetted exercises.
- tecunx, on 02/13/2009, -0/+1You know, that is true. the blogger admin. sent me an email informing me that they would remove posts with material somebody had claimed if I did not delete them in 3 days. The email informed me that the material would appear in the chillingeffects page, but it was not there so I did not know what to remove. · 3 days later, 100% of the blog posts were removed. They were merciless.
