- bossm4n, on 05/07/2009, -1/+32However, most of us noticed the incredibly cheesy, crappy CGI.
- freezerburn666, on 05/07/2009, -1/+23the main thing i missed from the trailer was an urge to actually see this movie. before the trailer i was pretty psyched for it.
- Slacker99, on 05/07/2009, -2/+14Not even Megan Fox on a Motorcycle could save this film
- ontain, on 05/07/2009, -0/+9Dugg for Snakeeyes vs Stormshadow
- J353, on 05/07/2009, -0/+9"...knowing is half the battle."
- robdiggity, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5Failing was all your battle.
- drmangrum, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5Probably saved to the end...gotta have a good in for the sequel right?
- inactive, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5You should check out G.I. Joe: Resolute on adultswim.com. Really good stuff, and they fixed a lot of the problems - like, people actually die. Actually, it was kind of shocking to see that much blood in a G.I. Joe series.
- Powerfan5000, on 05/07/2009, -2/+7This looks like the 09 version of Speed Racer. A lot of hype, but I don't think this will do very well at the box office.
- dystra, on 05/07/2009, -3/+8i too was excited about this movie before i saw the trailer.
This movie looks it's definitely going to suck. - bossm4n, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5At least when Bay does it, it looks good. Say what you want about Bay, but you can't argue that Transformers wasn't beautiful and slick CGI.
- cloudcity, on 05/07/2009, -1/+5The hour-long "GI Joe: Resolute" that was shown in pieces on Cartoon Network and is now available in whole for free (just each episode in sequence), is really pretty good! It made me want more from these writers and animators. What it did NOT make me want, was a live action movie.
Check it out, decent plot, good pace...
http://www.adultswim.com/video/?episodeID=8a250595 ... - drmangrum, on 05/07/2009, -5/+9It's a cartoon. Get over it.
- inactive, on 05/07/2009, -1/+5That the movie is going to suck hardcore.
- ColonelJessup, on 05/07/2009, -3/+6Sorry guys, but this movie is going to blow donkey *****. This is a total bastardization of our beloved childhood saturday morning ritual. There are some things that ought to be just totally off limits to Hollywood, and GI Joe is one of them.
- Velenne, on 05/07/2009, -0/+3How do you screw that up? BOW YOUR HEAD IN SHAME! OFF TO REDDIT WITH YOU!
- danwallace, on 05/07/2009, -0/+3Yeah, but now we won't end up paying for it.
- andyb747, on 05/07/2009, -0/+3awesome...
+ helmet or no helmet every cobra gets knocked out with one punch to the face or a chop to the back of the neck.. - bci84, on 05/07/2009, -0/+3No Stephen Sommers did, dude uses more cgi than Bay does.
- uskomaton, on 05/07/2009, -0/+3Actually them being able to operate almost any vehicle isn't that special, Delta Force has training in a lot of vehicles from trains to airplanes. Now of course they can't operate everything perfectly, but in a pinch they can at least help. Counter-terrorists need such skills to be successful.
- mandarin, on 05/07/2009, -0/+2Im pretty sure the writers of a cartoon from the 80's have no idea how to pilot an F14 either ...
- EricAnderton, on 05/08/2009, -0/+2I'll second that. I caught the last 45 minutes of this one night and was completely impressed. Decent story, non-campy characters and a real homage to the original TV series.
- hu_man01, on 05/07/2009, -0/+2"Why are y'all dissin' it.. I kinda like it" ( c ) de la soul
- DearInternets, on 05/07/2009, -1/+3Where's Cobra Commander?
- Beatmiser, on 05/07/2009, -0/+2Gi Joe was never a Saturday morning ritual. It was on in the afternoons syndication-wise.
/nitpickity - inactive, on 05/07/2009, -1/+2is the thumbnail dead rising 2?
- Probatus, on 05/07/2009, -0/+1Is this watchable? After the horrible job they did on "The details you might have missed" for Transformers. That was terrible.
- Lynxpro, on 05/07/2009, -0/+1...plus, the cartoon was *****. The real fans read the comics from Marvel...
- sooperskip, on 05/07/2009, -7/+8I watched a couple of old G.I. Joe episodes on Cable the other night. And a few things became apparent to me that had escaped my attention as a child;
1. That's a really, really racist show. Go back and watch it. Spirit, a Native American officer in G.I. Joe Military, has no command of the English language. The way he talks, you imagine that Duke is worried he's going to try to scalp him the fist chance he gets. Storm Shadow sounds like Mickey Rooney did the voice shortly after filming "Breakfast at Tiffany's"
2. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE in G.I. Joe has the capability of operating any vehicle, with little regard for the proper flight suit required for operation. I watched Shipwreck hop in something that resembled an F-14 with his dungarees and cap on. Apparently, G.I. Joe Basic training includes detailed pilot training courses for a wide variety of aircraft. Part of the course probably included proper-absolute-last-minute-zeor-hour-ejection-techniques.
3. The proportion of successful parachute deployments is exactly inverse to the rate of failure of sighted laser weaponry. Now, I knew that no one was ever hurt in a Joe/Cobra firefight (save for Duke in the movie), but honestly... not one good shot in the entire war? At the same time your person was never in danger, whatever aircraft you were flying was sure to be reduced to a mist of flames and shrapnel... but not to worry, your chute would save you each and every time. And cobra foot soldiers never had to worry about being picked off as they floated every so slowly to the ground. - rdolishny, on 05/07/2009, -0/+1Those guys need to get outside and meet some girls.
- colasrtney, on 05/07/2009, -1/+2Severely lacking Nemesis Enforcer.
- Lynxpro, on 05/07/2009, -0/+1
Scarlett looking hot is not one of the downside of this film.
Had it been made in the 90s, Angie Everhart (sic) would have been the logical choice for the character... - freezerburn666, on 05/07/2009, -1/+2losing is the other half...
- Obermeister, on 05/12/2009, -0/+1At least this movie has some Baroness.
- bubbameister33, on 05/07/2009, -0/+1Nooooo Joe!
- Lynxpro, on 05/07/2009, -0/+1He's still a crazy scientist working for Destro's MARS company before his Cobra Commander personality finally manifests at the end.
The film alters the Commander's comic origin as an out-of-work used car salesman that creates a militia group that goes on to become Cobra.
And please, nobody bring up stupid Cobra-La ***** from the animated movie. The Marvel Comics series was awesome, the cartoon ***** was not. - apetrie, on 05/07/2009, -0/+1Its a pet peeve of mine that no one else really cares about, but I absolutely hate that every "redhead" in a film is made to have the most ridiculously unnatural cherry red hair. Real redheads exist obviously, so they have something to compare it to.. how can they not see how ridiculous it looks? *sigh*
- ColonelJessup, on 05/07/2009, -0/+1I remember it being on Saturday morning. I had to get up at around 5 to watch it. Pink Panther was on before it.
- apetrie, on 05/08/2009, -0/+1I have nothing against the actress, shes gorgeous and thats great. Its the stylist or costume designer or whatever that needs slap in the face for the ridiculous colour that they used!
- portwojc, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1Starship Troopers (the novel) is probably the better reference for the accelerator suit.
- sanman, on 05/08/2009, -0/+1voicing Starscream in TAS?
or is that Spongebob? - rblancarte, on 05/08/2009, -0/+1Well, I saw it, and yep I was right - I didn't miss the good parts (there were none).
- marshallr, on 05/07/2009, -0/+1Actually all the video for gi joe is basically taking a heaping crap on the comic that spawned it. The irony is I thought the comic at the time it came out was kinda cheesy, but apparently the cheese writers went to the cartoon and given cart blanch at first, because the comic became pretty good while the show proved I had no idea what cheesy was before.
- ZackRI, on 05/08/2009, -0/+1I've covered wars you know.
- mandarin, on 05/07/2009, -1/+1So dont watch the movie. Whats the problem?
- drmangrum, on 05/07/2009, -3/+3It obviously bothers.
You wrote 3 paragraphs on how a cartoon is completely unrealistic. You're either over-sensitive or an idiot. - Slackdragon, on 05/08/2009, -1/+1And you know what would happen if they made a movie perfectly faithful to the cartoon? You'd bitch about how unrealistic and cartoony it is.
Making a movie version in no way encroaches on "beloved childhood" memories (Which ofttimes are far greater than the actual item. For instance, who hasn't played a ROM of an old favorite game only to mutter "I remember it as better than this"). Seldom does reality hold up to memories. Just remember that the next time you hear an old person talking about how great the good old days were.
Me? I like big-budget Hollywood summertime drivel. I get out of the 100° heat with some popcorn and suspend disbelief for 1.5 to 3 hours. I'll go see G.I. Joe. Not because of some pubescent nostalgia. But because it is what fun movies are supposed to be: escapism. - michaelrsa, on 05/07/2009, -2/+2Good God yeah, nearly that entire trailer killed me but the CGI was the worst. It was so painful watching them jump around at high speed like that in slow motion with explosions going of everywhere.
Michael Bay made this, right? -
